No kids are just wimps these days. They also dress for style not for warmth.

I do not ever remember schools closing because it was cold, when I was a child.

The only time we did not go was when there was a foot of snow or more.

Heck I rode my bike to school through the winter every day in 6th-8th grade and it was a 5 mile ride!

I bet she would just agree with me.

The boys went to school. I went to go help and the teacher was extremely rude to me. In front of the kids even. So I won't be back. Most likely Danny will be at a different school next year.

This school year has been hell and I'm just done with it.

My kids are in the Stillwater School District as well. What school are your kids at? My kids go to Lake Elmo and Oak-Land Jr. High. A few weeks ago when it was cold, the Jr. High bus was over an hour late. Luckily my daughter didn't have to wait, but some kids did and that is completely unacceptable!

When it's this cold, I'll drive my kids to school rather than having them wait for the bus. But I don't think they should close the schools. I don't know of any businesses around here that are closed, and I still have to go to work. Just preparing them for the real world. Bundle up!

BBRRRRR! I am in Fargo ND and we are having 'dangerous windchills' here too!!
It makes me ache for our Disney trip next week!!!
It will be a 100 degree increase!!!!

My son and I have kept entertained by the extreme cold by throwing HOT water in the air outside. It is SO COOL, it turns into a gas before it hits the ground. I think it is called sublimation....
You have to try it if you are in the deep freeze like us.
At least we can have some fun while freezing our butts off
The only sad part is when we have to come back from Florida to this cold stuff
It will make me enjoy our week even more.!!

That is because a lot of the Stillwater district is still pretty rural--Marine, Afton, Lakeland are all in Stillwater's district AND the kids have to walk to school if they are a mile from school in elementary and 2 miles secondary.

Yep, we are in Elk River and many of the kids here have to stand at the end of very long farm roads to wait for the bus. It gets cold out there when there aren't even any trees to block the wind. We had two hour late start too.

This morning it was -43 F with a wind chill of -59.8 F......needless to say they cancelled buses and classes but staff still needed to be there.

Here school get cancelled only if---
the temperature reaches -35 F and/or the wind chill reaches -53.
If temperature is just 1 degree off then school is still on!!

If they didn't set the policy at these temps. school would be cancelled all winter

I live in Hudson, Wi and we closed. My mom however works at the Woodbury schools and she was mad she still had to work because they had school.

That is soooooooo cool! I did that last night but it only worked if I heated water up in the microwave. It's still awesome!
