Well....it's finally happened. We've been to WDW enough times that when I told my Mom this morning that DH and I are going for an "adults-only" weekend in September, her reply was, "AGAIN?!?! You know....there are other places in the country to visit!" Mind you....this is the same woman who travels 3 hours to Maine EVERY weekend EVERY Summer to the same seasonal trailer site! :confused3

It just made me sad that I may not want to share any of our trip plans with her in the future. :(

Luckily, I have other relatives who may kid me about our multiple trips to WDW, but don't feel the need to berate me about them!

Just had to vent/share....

When she says "there ARE other places to go" ... I would smile sweetly and reply "yes, I know, but none that would make me quite so happy", and then change the subject completely. You don't need to share your plans with her anymore ... come and share them with your 55000 closest DIS friends! :teeth:

What a coincidence this August my husband and I are also going to be taking a “child free” Disney holiday – not bad when you consider the eldest is 25!

We too suffer the “there are other places to go you know” quip from many people – my response is always - its our money and our holiday and we are guaranteed a wonderful holiday if Disney is involved so there!!!

Enjoy!

Don't be too hard on her.. My mom has said the "you're going there AGAIN?" a few times to me in the past 20 years. I just say "You betcha!" Again like you, this from a lady who has to spend a week in the White Mountains of NH every summer (well, I do too, but that's not my point!) :)
I think they just tend to say what pops into their head.

So to celebrate our (Mom's and mine) "milestone" birthdays, I offered to take her to WDW for 6 days in January 2006. She didn't jump on the offer as she is leary of flying, but is now so excited to go that she can't wait. She can't wait to visit MGM and Epcot. And I can't wait to show her what makes up a WDW dream vacation.

There must be something in the air, because I just got the same thing from my mom yesterday. I was asking her if she would keep the kids the first week of November 2006 so DH and I could go to WDW for our anniversary...she was less than thrilled that we wanted to go back :(

Hey neighbor!
I'm guilty too. We went in April with the kids and Sept. will be adults only. :teeth: Although I must confess....I haven't told ANYONE (other then my BF) that we are going back just for that "AGAIN?!?" reason. They may not, but we all understand were your coming from.

I really don't understand why some people have a hard time believing that there is such a place that makes you happy EVERY time you go. So why wouldn't you want to keep going. :confused3

Although sometimes I find myself on the other side of that conversation when I speak with my parents. They live about 20-30 minutes (depending on the traffic) from DW. They've lived there for about 10 years now. In the beginning when I would call them and there wouldn't be any answer, my mom would call me back and say "Oh, we just came back from Epcot. Your dad wanted such-and-such for dinner". I'd be like "WHAT!!! :earseek: How could you possibly go WITHOUT me!!!"
I've calmed down alot since then (I don't cry as much). :rolleyes1
Now when I get the answering machine, I think "Well, they're at Disney. AGAIN!! :rotfl:

dont worry you are not alone!!!! :wave2: dh and I get same respones from friends and family.we go twice a year...last 5 years no kid!! we always say we will go somewhere else but that lasts about one minute and we are are deciding between poly or pofq.90 days out and we already have all dinning arrangements made and are counting down...we will never tire of it!!! :cheer2: :cheer2:

My mother aways rains on my parade as well with the "therie are other places to go!" I am fortunate that I have travel extensively at a young age and am happiest at WDW especially with kids. My DDs a tthis point have no interest or patience really for anywhere else. Besides, family vacation time is very precious . I want it spent where we all enjoy it. I think that has changed since our "mothers" were younger "Mothers".

Not only do we get the "again" thing ( and we DON't go that often) now that I am going "again" in august -- I am getting--"what twice in one year"--- hey --- its my money, I work hard, I can go wherever I want and enjoy.

So that is why I always feel like I can share my trips- my planning with my fellow DISers.

Well, I hope you bring that up. "What, you're going to Maine AGAIN? There are other places to go, you know!"

I completely understand. We'll be going in August for our 5th time since 2000 and I get that "again?" from people- almost makes me not want to tell them. Ironically, it's from usually from people who have never been there so they just don't understand why we like it so much :wizard:

I hear the word "again" every time I tell my sisters I'm going to Disney. I finally stopped telling them until the day before I leave. And the only reason I tell my oldest sister is so she will have out flight and hotel information incase anything happens. My best friend told me not to call my sister for the next trip just give all the information to her. And she will call my sisters if anything happens. :) :)

A couple of trips ago my oldest sister said "yall are crazy" when I told her of my upcoming trip. To which I replied. "Yes we are crazy, but we are happy"! :)

Don't let then "Againers" get ya down! Have a great trip!

Take Care
Jamie

Thanks for the commiserating, guys!! :disrocks:

I just don't understand why people have to comment when it really has nothing to do with them!! I mean, it doesn't take any $$ out of their pockets, and it's certainly not hurting anyone! DH and I LOVE going to the WDW area.....there's so much atmosphere and we love spending relaxing-time at the resort and going to different restaurants, etc. I think a big part if it is that most people don't realize how much of a "destination" WDW is......and that there's soooooo much more besides the theme parks.

Now that we are DVC owners, it's so easy to "pop" down for a few days....especially when Southwest offers their $49 fares! We can fly to WDW and stay at a deluxe resort for LESS $$ than just heading up north to the mountains for the weekend. Last Sept. we caught bargain airfare and spent a 4-day weekend at the Beach Club Villas for a grand total of $450 (air, rental car and food)!! :cheer2:

I certainly won't let the "again-ers" prevent me from enjoying my Disney vacations!

Poohgirl: Hello to you too! :wave2:

I finally got my mother to shut up and stop saying AGAIN to me... When she said for the hundreth time there are other places to go than WDW. I politily said I've been more places than you. She says, you haven't been off the east coast. I so lovingly said I've been to Mexico, Norway,China,Japan,Germany,France,Italy,Morocco,UK,and Canada(which doesn't count because I live 10min. from the border) and then I tell her IF YOU DON"T BELIEVE ME I HAVE A PASSPORT TO PROVE IT!!!!! So know she just rolls her eyes and says I know I know!

I just don't understand why people even care--it's YOUR vacation, not theirs! :flower:

WE have some family members who always give us a hard time about our "going to Disney again, why not someplace else"! I finally got tired of it and told them "there are also other places to go than Cape Hadderas (spelling?) which they go to twice a year every year!!!! So , my DW and I will continue to go see Mickey when we want even multiple times a year if we want!  :earsboy: :earsgirl: Go Mickey!!!!!!

Other places....I'm not sure what that means...what are these "other places" she is speaking of....?

Jungle Josh

Unless they're the one signing the check for my vacation I don't even respond anymore... :teeth:
They took the hint and didn't bother saying "Again?" anymore hehe...

There are other places to go in the world?? That's news to me! Why would I want to go anywhere but WDW when I get butterflies in my stomach just thinking about it. I've been to several places in and outside of the US, and none of them give me the excitement that I get when just thinking about Disney. There are a lot of us out here that support you, and I say GREAT DECISION!!
