Issues with Lighthouse Point FROMMERS

100% this. Its a MUCH BETTER beach than Castaway. And to me the pier issue is waaaay overblown.
Agree. The beach was gorgeous and really surprised us on how nice it was. As a family of 4 with 2 kids (13 and 10) not a single person in our group complained about the pier. It is like 2% of the walking required at WDW and we had just left there so that might be why lol. All young kids were in strollers or wagons, even some much older kids were in wagons, so there was no shortage of those.

You know, I thought Disney blew it with that long pier, especially for those with mobility issues. But my wife and I did a 2 week Princess Land Sea tour in September with a ground of 16 people. We were the kids of the group at age 68. My wife and I rolled our eyes at the first breakfast seeing two participants in their late 70s in scooter, and a third in a wheel chair. We wondered how they could possibly keep up. Boy were we wrong. These folks wanted to see everything and their mobility issues, and less than idea accommodations were not going to stop them. At various times we paired up with all three of them and their spouses, including walking (or scooting) 2 miles round trip from the Washington Monument to the U.S Capitol and back. I guess it is a case of Mind over Matter.

Using a mobility scooter isn't mind over matter.
No, but even with all the efforts, there are still places that are not really accessible. So yes, mind over matter when those additional challenges pop up.

We just hate the theming. It feels like the new Nassau welcome area at the port. It’s not Disney. And it’s not cute or fun, just touristy. The Bahamian culture presented is sanitized and packaged in a weird way that is just off-putting. Dumbed down.

I wonder if the cruises going to Nassua and LC only are more of a hard sell for Disney?🤔

I've said it before and I've said it again. The pier is not a problem for every guest, but for the guests for whom it is a problem, it's a big problem. We have an autistic kiddo who is too big for a wagon but did not qualify when we asked about the golf cart ride as his issue with the walk is neurological rather than physical. It was a very hot day in the sun and by the end he was sobbing hysterically in full meltdown mode. Did he survive? Sure. Is that how we wanted our experience of the day to go on a very expensive concierge cruise trying to get to our very expensive cabana at Mabrika cove (which was also a disaster due to erosion that prevented us from accessing the beach outside our cabana)? Absolutey not. Disney a premium cruise line and it was not a premium experience.

My son now refers to it as the "torture pier" in our house, and when we booked on the Destiny and he found out we'd be going to LC again, he burst into tears on the spot until I reassured him we could stay on the ship.

I will also say, we talked to people who did qualify to use the golf cart and they were very disappointed as well as they were obliged to separate from their family and were confused about where to meet up.

So when people say it is overblown, okay that may true for you, but disney is normally so good about being inclusive of neurodivergent kids and it was an absolute fail from our perspective.

Its crazy to me that anyone who is requesting the shuttle for ANY reason is being turned away. You obviously know your child better than any random Disney employee and if you think he needs the shuttle instead of walking the pier they should happily set it up for you. full stop. Its not their job to determine who "qualifies".

That is an issue that should be rectified.

Unfortunately, as we've seen at the parks, there are too many people out there taking advantage of these systems. So, Disney needs to put some rules in place. Maybe they got this one wrong.

I don’t know if they’re trying to improve the system, or if it varies by cruise, but full families were allowed to use the golf carts on our cruise. I also heard a few people mention they used them coming back after walking there was harder than expected so it didn’t seem to be as restrictive as others are mentioning.

This is insane that Disney did not help you. The walk is nothing for us. We always choose walking over elevators, over the subway, over the monorail, etc. But I agree for people who don’t even feel like walking it— Nevermind for your case which should be a given, but even for anyone who just wants a ride, Disney should provide that period. There are a lot of older people who also have trouble with a long walk. It really is mind boggling to me that Disney did not think this through AND doesn’t seem concerned with addressing the issue.
