? Issues with 2 memberships?

Just wondering what the issues are with owning multiple DVC memberships? We are considering an addon but don't know if we need to get the same use year? We will get the same home resort.

Having the same UY for all of your contracts is much easier to manage. Less to keep track of and less chance for mistakes.

The question is, which UY is best based upon your vacation patterns. We vacation to WDW Nov - May so we have a Oct UY. This gives us time to bank our points should we have to cancel for any reason.

If buying an add-on from Disney you will be given no choice but to get same use year unless you buy minimum points that a first time purchaser is required to buy in which case you can ask for a different use year. If you buy and get same use year all your cointracts are treated as one for purpose of reserving, banking and borrowing. If you have separate use years, the two contracts remain separate for all purposes and when you reserve using both you reserve some nights using one contract and other nights using the other and link the two. It is no big issue.

My sentiments exactly. We own at 2 different resorts (OKW & BWVs) and purposely wanted the same UY for easy record keeping as well as ease of transferring points from one contract to another. It has worked out well for us and like disneynutz, we have an Oct. UY and vacation mostly Oct.-May. Even though we own at 2 resorts (3 contracts), they are listed under one membership #.

Scott, do you have 2 different use years 6 months apart? I am really interested. I like the anology of 2 different timeshares. I have often thought of buying a different use year, but everyone is always so negative about it, like keeping track of it all is too complicated. What is so complicated?

We actually own two memberships so I am speaking from experience. It's twice the work, double the dates to keep track of and twice the chance of something going wrong. On several occasions we have had MS take points from our April contract even though we have told them to use the Oct. points. We are waiting for the resale market to improve so we can sell our April contracts.

We have three contracts at SSR and one at AKV all same UY all under one membership. The AKV was an add on last Aug. and we split our SSR contracts into three 100 pt. contracts. I can't imagine having two or three memberships.

We have two contracts, one with a different resort for an add-on. When I want to use the points from the smaller contract, I have to use the once a year transfer to transfer them from the smaller to the larger. You can't combine points from two different UY to make a single night without using a transfer. Transfers don't show up on the website. So if you transfer from one to the other, it shows the points gone from the one but not in the other. You have to be careful that they use the points from the other contract before they borrow from the next UY.

We have an Oct. use year at BWV and a Sept. use year at BWV. It's a hassle with having to transfer points between the contracts. Especially when you are going to be buying the same location, I'd strongly recommend the same use year and the same member number.
