Issue at Work, What Would You Do?

I am wondering about something. A LOT of people that aren't into religon use "christian" as a generic term to include Protestants, Catholics, Lutherans etc. If she was just saying "I'm afraid someone would think I was" that's one thing. If knowing you are a "christian" she was singling out your faith that is a totally different matter

She probably was using it as a generic term in regards to denomination. She was not directing her comment at me, and since I had verbally admired her outfit on several occasions, I am sure she wasn't thinking about me when she said it. It offends me because she is generalizing Christians in a negative way and since I am one, it includes me. She is a proclaimed atheist and that's fine. I don't think any less of her for her religious or non-religious beliefs, however she obviously has disdain for Christians or she wouldn't have said what she said. I think that I will let this one go, but I will definitely say something if she makes another comment. I only worry that she will shoot her mouth off when we have clients. She was lucky we were alone. Thanks again for letting me share and I really do appreciate all the advice. :thumbsup2

She is obviously ignorant and has a less than perfect sense of humor. She was trying to make a joke, made herself look like a horses behind. I can't help but wonder if the folks who laughed weren't actually laughing at her and not with her. That aside, today the Muslims are killing folks in the name of religion but it wasn't that long ago in the big scheme of things that Christians were doing it. It's never the right thing to do and it's one of the stupid downfalls of humanity. I think if you approached her with a light hearted conversation about how it made you feel, she might get it. Then again, she's so ignorant it may go right over her head.

Okay, here would be my plan:

1. Grit teeth
2. Go to church. Pray for her enlightenment
3. Ask God for help letting it go
4. Let it go and blow into work tomorrow with a big smile on your face.

Let's recap the goal here: the goal of work is to get paid, get promoted, get a raise, get promoted, get a bonus ... the point of work is to make money. The point of your home life is to gain emotional and personal fulfillment. Some people are lucky enough to intermix the two; most are not. Since I don't think you're taking huge personal and emotional fulfillment out of this job, make your objective GETTING PAID. And next year, when raises come around, your boss will sign your compensation paperwork - and you REALLY don't want to be the woman who uttered "hostile work environment" or started other fires in the office. Keep it mellow, smile, underpromise and overdeliver, and make your point where it matters --- at the bank ---
