Wondering if anyone can recommend a decent water bottle for my girls lunch boxes? I'm looking for something that is insulated, has a straw, keeps their water cold and of course doesn't leak..

Oldest dd who is going into 7th grade is running cross country so I'm looking for at least 20 ounce bottles..

Thank you!
Barbara.

The best bottles for keeping water cold were a discovery after Pete did a segment about them.... The hydroflask

It is not a wimpy bottle, and I can't vouch for the straw piece because I haven't used that one. The old ones used to leak. But this bottle will keep water cold for 24 hours in my car outside in the Florida sun. It really works. It is heavy to tote around Disney all day, but if you found a way to keep it inside a lunch tote it wouldn't be bad.

Just a warning, the 64 ounce is a monster and no one wants to carry it around. I use the 21 ounce bottle daily.

We have been buying the thermos ones for probably six to eight years. I would highly recommend them.

They definitely keep water cold for at least 12 hours.

I buy the 18 oz. ones on Amazon and usually pay $16-18 but they last for years.

There is a 24 oz. one but it doesn't fit in my cup holder so I stick to the smaller one.

I have no experience with Hydroflasks and like the spout on the Thermos bottles. But here's an article which compares the two. YMMV.

We have used them all:rolleyes: Thank you dancer and recital

Anyway, DD usually freezes her water bottle either 3/4 or full of water depending on how long she will be out of the house before dance. She too likes the big water bottles, talking 1 liter size. Anything shorter she runs out of water:eek: Her dance studio is old school and only turns on the ac when it is really hot outside.

Anyway, we use thermos, recycled disani water bottles, camalback insulated water bottles, generic water bottles, tupperware water bottles, nagoline.

I have decided they all work about the same. None of them stand out as "the one" that has to be used all the time.

For us which one gets used depends on activity, carry factor, sweat factor, if we remembered to freeze it the night before;)

My daughter likes Camelbacks. Fills with it will ice. Then, adds water. She takes it for lunch everyday.

Oh my word. I just a couple of weeks ago got my first HydroFlask water bottle. I am HOOKED!

I am actually going to use my gift cards to REI to buy two more in different sizes.

I took some ice water one day in the car. I put it in the car at 11am. I left it in the car all day in 80 degree weather.

At 8pm, after being in the car, it still had ice in it!

I am SOLD on these.

One word of caution though......I used it as a coffee mug one day. I couldn't drink the coffee at ALL for hours because it kept the coffee so hot. I now have to add some cold water to the hydroflask if I am carrying something hot so that I can drink it within an hour's time.

HIGHLY recommend them.

Youtube them and you will see them compared against all sorts of water bottles. They come out on top.

I recommend the Thermos Funtainer. I bought one for DD to take for her pre-K lunch this fall. Last weekend, I filled one up with ice and water at 7:00 AM. It sat in a hot closed up car all day. I took a drink at around 5:00 and it was still cold, with bits of ice left in it.

I bought ours at Walmart for just under $13, but Target and Amazon have them as well. The one we have is only 12 oz, but I saw larger sizes on Amazon.

I purchased the Hydroflask but bought the Klean Kanteen top. I also bought small reusable ice cubes. I love it. Everything does stay cold as others have said even sitting in a hot car all day.

I used to do the same thing, freeze a water bottle half full then add water to it so it will be cold, but once the ice melted your back to warm water. Hydro flask is worth every penny

Definitely try the Hydroflask. We read about them here and got one for my son to take to soccer. Now we have 4 and we take them everywhere. (And many of our extended family has purchased them as well.) They are heavy duty and probably wouldn't fit in a lunch box. My kids keep them in a pocket on the sides of their back packs. 3-4 ice cubes and cold water will stay very cold for 24 hours no matter what the outside conditions are, and they don't sweat. Amazing technology. They even have a lifetime guarantee. We have had a broken bottle and a top replaced for free.

I have a Thermos stainless as well. Can leave it in my truck in 110 Las Vegas heat and it will still have ice in it hours later. Leave it over night and it's still ice cold with ice the next morning. It's heavy though, something to consider.
