Only have one day...9yr old boy..is Islands of Adventure the best choice? Able to see most of it in a day?

Thanks!:)

If your 9 years old son likes any of the following:

  1. Comic book heroes.
  2. Sunday paper cartoons.
  3. Dinosaurs.
  4. Harry Potter.
  5. Sindbad stories.
  6. Suess stories.

then yes, IOA would be a good choice.

You should be able to see all of it in one day, unless you're visiting at a very busy time while staying off-property.

I am the TA..lol
I will ask what my clients son likes...he has 3 days ...staying at WDW and wants to see it ALL! I know not remotely - even close - possible so trying to guide him to the highlights! Would Universals other park be a better choice? My DD ...who worked at Disney...tells me IOA would be best but I am open to suggestion!!!!

THANKS!:thumbsup2

You might also want to ask how tall the kid is- most of the attractions have height requirements and the big coasters are all 54". Along those lines, you might want to ask if the boy enjoys thrills and water rides, since that's what IOA is largely comprised of.

I have asked him that as well...bit tricky as the son lives with the ex and in another province. Soooo......it's hurry up and wait some times!

Most appreciative of your help!!

DD 10 says if they are a Harry Potter geek (her words) then Islands of Adventure. If not, then Universal Studios park has more other rides she would be interested in.

We were there in December (on DDs 10th birthday) and were able to do what the kids wanted to do at both parks in 2 days. We even took in the Christmas shows that I wanted to see. We had three days, and could have pushed it and done the highlights of both parks in one day. Remember, there is less walking than Disney and more riding.

All 4 of my kids are adrenaline junkies and enjoy the coasters and "big" rides. And at 10 DD is tall enough for all of the big rides

check out the rides and shows in the park at www.universalorlando.com

you will get a description and details on the rides in both parks.

my boys loved the studios side at that age.
but, they also were and still are thrilled with Marvel land and Fantastic 4.
which is at IOA.

My 9 yo boy absolutely loves Islands of Adventure. However, as a previous poster has pointed out, the minimum height on some of the major rides is 54". When we last visited, in Oct last year, he was almost 9 and not quite at the magic 54" so couldn't ride Hulk or Dragons Challenge and he was severely disappointed.

Having said that, with the advantage of WWOHP, I would definitely recommend IOA over universal if they can only do one of the parks.

I have again asked for his sons height before guiding him to one over the other...thanks again!:)

My DD is 9 and my DS is 4. We are going to both in May. I was not sure but found some very helpful videos on youtube. I haven't been in years and my children have never been. Check out Youtube, you might find some helpful videos like I did.

We enjoyed it for one day (kids were 8 and 5) but my boys are crazy about Marvel super heroes. I love Harry Potter, so it was a good day in the park for us, but those are the main things in that park, so if he's not interested, it's really a judgment call on your part.
