Island Hopping: A Highly Inappropriate TR. (Boom.)-- Link to NEW TR! 10/8

I love photos from Dinoland USA. I'm a cheesy girl too! My favorite is the one with the girls in the pink car. The way that Brynn is looking at that Triceratops is hilarious!:rotfl2:

You are an amazing mom:flower3: I am so happy you got to the bottom of the eyebrow situation...things are always easier to deal with when we have all the facts aren't they! Love all the pictures and I laughed that there were no pics from Primevil Whirl....I did that one year too, don't have a clue how I missed them, but I did:rotfl2: Hope you guys are having a great Sunday!

I hope the Disney coffee is better since they just got rid of the Nescafe and put in Joffrey’s. Thank GOD.

A lot of people say that Dinoland is tacky, but I love it. The details and bright colors are just awesome.

I want to take my camera on Everest and many other thrill rides, but I am afraid that something will happen. Brandon is very brave!

Oh goody, AK day has arrived! I have been looking forward to seeing your husband's photos of AK! It is one of the more beautiful parks, in my opinion..so much intricate detail and beautiful flowers everywhere. That is CRAZY that Julia loved PW so much, because I feel the opposite. It wasn't scary or anything, it just literally beat the heck out of us! We were laughing hysterically the entire time though because we could not imagine who would go on that for fun, after one initial ride...and it turns out your daughter would! lol

Poor Brynn with the loud Triceratop Spin music. It's not your fault though, it is hard to gauge how loud a ride is when you aren't actually ON the ride. It's only when you start to fly on your own personal dino, that the music really sinks into your ears. I hope it didn't affect her in any major way though!

Oh and re: the hair pulling. I could go back and look for the spelling of the condition..but you know what I mean. Are there any treatments as far as therapies you could try? I would imagine that it's mostly learning self-soothing techniques, but I don't have any experience with it, so it is just a guess. I think the velcro, blanket square, vaselined brows, etc are all good ideas though. Does Julia only pull on her one eye brow now or are there other areas that she will tug on also? It's so hard when something sort of "unknown" is going on with a child, where it's more of an emotional/psychological condition vs physical, because you just want to fix it and make it better, but you can't :( But I do hope that she can learn the skills to help her overcome the condition. Again another guess, but I would think that since she is young it might be easier to help her "retrain" herself, rather than if she was suffering from this for years and years and then it would be engrained into her daily life and routine.

Yeaaahhh, don't mind me. I've just been kind of MIA from the DIS these past few days. I blame my addiction to re-watching Veronica Mars. Yyyyyep.

But fear not, I actually read your update a few days ago! I just didn't get a chance to comment.

I'm glad you guys figured out what was going on with Julia. I'm sure that was remarkably stressful, but it sounds like you guys have a handle on it now. :thumbsup2

I hope it doesn't rain as much in September as it did during your trip! It seems like you guys got your fair share, haha. Actually, I don't really mind the rain that much in Disney World, since it's always short-lived... Disneyland on the other hand, yeah, it just had to rain the entire time we were there. UGH.

I've never been on Primeval Whirl aaaand I don't know that I need to go on it, hahaha.

Poor Brynn, that music just seemed too loud for her.. but everyone else seemed to enjoy a little spin in their dinos! WEEE!

I LOVE Brandon's shots of everything at EE! They look amazing. Hahaha, I hope Julia decides to give EE another try again in September! But honestly, for a kid her age to go on it as is, that's pretty impressive! :thumbsup2

I am IN for a little safari-ing!

:wave2: Newbie here to your trip report! Your family is so so so cute. And I'm absolutely in love with your trip report. Im actually borderline addicted considering Sunday I spent half the day reading your entire last trip report instead of packing my apartment:upsidedow...Anyhow I'm all caught up and Im also not a lurker. Ready for the next update!:flower3:

Just started reading the TR and love it so far! The video is fantastic!!

Trichotillomania is a strange thing. My boss's daughter suddenly started pulling out her eyelashes one day. I can't imagine the pain! She's 10 and also incredibly smart and often bored with school. I wonder how often this occurs??

Looking forward to the next update!

Animal Kingdom day! And foreshadowing! It's doubly ominous, since AK is the worst park to be in during a rain storm. Uh oh!

I'm actually similar to Julia in terms of needing some kind of tactile feedback when bored or nervous. My desk at work is littered with things to keep my hands busy, as otherwise I'll crack my knuckles or tug at my beard non stop. Luckily, there is a booming industry producing things for exactly that purpose.

We really need to explore Dinoland more. We didn't see it at all during out honeymoon or 2012 trip, but actually visited it and went on Dinosaur a couple of times this past trip. Looks like we'll have to try Primeval Whirl!

You know how we feel about EE. And I was the same way as Julia growing up. I would go on rides one year, love them, then go on them again the next year and be terrified. I think you're exactly right, in that you become old enough to realize what COULD happen in a worst case scenario, annnnd then it's terrifying.

Brandon got some beautiful shots! I love the views from EE.

And now, I'm off to watch your video yet again.
Maybe I'll send you and Julia on Primeval Whirl, and Dani and I can watch and NOT get dizzy :thumbsup2.
I think needing some tactile input is very common, especially among smart people. And we all know you're brilliant! Your brains just need more to do!

Longtime lurker here! Had to post since I just watched your video and it's magic! You've made me laugh more times than I can count. Thanks for writing!
THANK YOU!!!!! I'm so happy people are watching the video and reading my little ol' TR, and I'm ecstatic that you've been entertained! Thanks for coming out of lurkdom to make my day.

Oh that must have been so stressful to figure out with Julia! I feel her pain. I have a similar problem with picking at the ends of my hair in stressful or boring situations! It becomes like a compulsion- I know I shouldn't do it and I know it's harmful to my hair but I just can't stop. So I most definitely feel her pain and you guys are totally awesome parents for doing so much to help her! :goodvibes

I love that you guys ran to Dinoland. I love EE and the Safari but I think Dinoland is awesome. I know a lot of people hate it or whatnot but I think it's themed so cute. And your pictures are, of course, adorable as always!

Aw Julia is probably smart to not want to go on EE anymore.

Can't wait to hear what other rainy adventures are in store!
I'm so glad someone understands! It does seem like it's a compulsion for her, because BELIEVE ME, she has tried to stop and can't. We're trying our hardest, but she really doesn't seem aware she's doing it sometimes and other times just has to pull. Luckily, it's only in her eyebrows for now.

I love love love love LOVE Primeval Whirl!!!! The spinning just makes me giggle. We were able to ride it twice in a row the last time we were there too! My parents don't like the jolting stop at the end however, so we also called it quits after 2 times. But I could ride it all day long.

Your eyebrow story reminds me of Raising Hope. I don't know if you watch that show or not, but the main character eats his eyebrows when he's nervous. I know it's not exactly the same thing....but it's funny in the show. Probably not so funny in real life, so I'm sorry you have to deal with that.
We were giggling, too, but I have to say that I was dizzy afterwards!
I haven't seen that show in a while and don't remember that part, but I assure you that Julia doesn't eat hers, LOL :rotfl2:!

Great update Jenn! Beautiful photos as usual.

I love that you guys ran to Dinoland! We've yet to make it there-ever- maybe this trip. Maddie is also really into the youtube videos, but she's got her heart set on Space Mt. :confused3 I'm not sure why the kid who's scared of dark rides wants to ride it (I blame Stacey), but ride it we will. I'm glad that Julia enjoyed her ride.

I'm so glad that you got the eyebrow thing figured out. That would have really scared me. You're such a good momma.
Stacey is the root of this, too, I believe. It's all because she'd been on Kali River Rapids ("the wash cycle") and she hadn't been on PW ("the spin cycle"). Oh, Stacey! We love you!

I'm happy to see the sun! We've only been to AK once and I went without a plan and we missed quite a bit. This year I'm prepared and looking forward to it, especially Everest! Of all the beautiful pics, I like the one of the girls in the pink care, so sweet!
I love that picture, too, but I do NOT look forward to the day they are in a real car!!

I've been a little bit behind over here but I'm alllll caught up now. :woohoo:

Yall have had such a great trip so far! Well, besides the CBR toilet issues. What on earth?

I know a couple of people that have the same thing Julia has, and they have been able to kick it. It sounds like she's been doing great. I honestly have a similar problem... not plucking my hairs but my hands always need to be busy. This will sound like the strangest thing ever, but I roll up little pieces of paper to keep them busy. Not just paper either, just whatever I can roll between my fingers helps me! Yes, I'm officially a weirdo, but I'm okay with that.

Brandon's pictures continue to amaze me!
I'm really hoping she can kick it, too! We're trying to "re-train" her to do other things with her hands, but it's just like a really, really bad habit. You are totally not a weirdo! I think things like this are more common than people talk about!

I love how you guys do things unconventionally. I love Primeval Whirl, but I don't know if my old age :rotfl2: would have let me go on it more than twice in a row.
Same here. I liked it, but I was so done after two!:faint:

Glad to hear that Julia is doing better with items to preoccupy her hands! :goodvibes

Sounds like a fun AK morning!! We've actually never been to Dinoland, can you believe it??
I am hearing that from more and more people!!! I have to say that Dinoland is really, really loud and gaudy, but it is fun!

I love photos from Dinoland USA. I'm a cheesy girl too! My favorite is the one with the girls in the pink car. The way that Brynn is looking at that Triceratops is hilarious!:rotfl2:
LOL!! I never noticed that until you pointed it out! :rotfl: LOVE IT!

Maybe it's just built so that everyone misses that photo :lmao:!
Yes, knowing what we're dealing with makes it a lot easier, though it's still pretty frustrating. We'll get through it!

I hope the Disney coffee is better since they just got rid of the Nescafe and put in Joffrey’s. Thank GOD.

A lot of people say that Dinoland is tacky, but I love it. The details and bright colors are just awesome.

I DID NOT KNOW THAT!!!!! Hallelujah!! :cool1: With that and Starbucks moving in, I may get a decent cup after all :surfweb:.
I'm not sure if he's brave or just stupid for taking his camera up there :rotfl2:.

HA! Yep, that would be my insane child who goes on PW for fun ::yes::. Gotta love her!
So far, she is just pulling her eyebrows, mostly her left one. Her doctor said she could move on to other areas, but thank goodness for right now it is just that darn eyebrow! Retraining herself and self-soothing techniques are pretty much all we can do, and since she just started this now and not since birth, it may be easier to break. When she was little, she twirled her hair, but not pulled it. I think this may be branching off that. It was a hard habit to break, and she does get habits easily (that pacifier was a beast to break!!). Some people do take medication for it, but it hasn't really been proven to be very successful. I suppose we may give it a try if this doesn't work after a while.

Yeaaahhh, don't mind me. I've just been kind of MIA from the DIS these past few days. I blame my addiction to re-watching Veronica Mars. Yyyyyep.

I am IN for a little safari-ing!

Well, I have to say that I was much more relieved knowing she was pulling her own eyebrows instead of thinking of her holding a razor or tweezers near her eyes!!:scared1: I don't think it stresses me out, but just makes me sad to know that she's such a type-A personality, combined with being so intellectually bored, combined with a HORRIBLE witch of a teacher...it's all I can do not to pull her out of school and make her homeschool. Sigh. But then she'd hate that because it would be a change. No win situation right here.:rolleyes2
I just volunteered Matt to be the one to ride PW with her next time. He may be the only person in the world interested in that adventure!

:wave2: Newbie here to your trip report! Your family is so so so cute. And I'm absolutely in love with your trip report. YAY!:cool1: I love a newbie, ESPECIALLY an addicted one!!
I mean...go pack your apartment, young lady!:lmao:

Just started reading the TR and love it so far! The video is fantastic!!

SO HAPPY you're here and that you enjoyed the video:goodvibes!
I am thinking that trich happens way more often that is talked about, and also I think sometimes people don't take it to the extreme and it isn't noticeable. Some people lightly pull on eyebrows and eyelashes and are satisfied when the already-loose ones fall out; some pull the ones that are still firmly in place. Some twirl hair until it gradually falls out; some yank hair out. And I do think there's a definite connection in boredom/intellect and hair-pulling. Her doctor says it's very typical of Type A personalities, too, and she is definitely that. Another reason we may not hear about it so much is that people are ashamed and try to cover it up. Sad and frustrating :sad1:.
Next update will be full of happy thoughts, I promise!!

I totally get it. And mine started in elementary school with my eyelashes and picking at the skin on my hands. It's so funny (in a strange not haha way) how similar Julia and Brynn are to me and my sister. Mine also started because I was always that kid that was the first one done with work and bored waiting for another assignment. Actually I still am rotfl. Even in my new job training, I'm always sitting around waiting for everyone to catch up. I too had very few teachers who got it and were understanding. I was fortunate enough to have an awesome 4th grade teacher who would give me 5th grade work to do when I was done and then for middle and high school, I got a scholarship to private school where I was in an accelerated curriculum which also helped but high school is when I switched to pulling at my hair and it continues now.

It's hard to break the habit now because no one really intervened when I was little. Since you guys are so on top of it and working with Julia, I have great hopes that she can overcome it!

You need to get a move on this TR so you can start your PTR!!! LOL!

My kids LOVE Dinoland....specifically the Bone Yard...and at HS the HISTK park....and at MK Pooh's Corner (which is not there anymore). They also, when asked about the best thing about WDW answer the pool!:headache:

I KNOW, RIGHT!?! :rotfl2: I have been debating whether or not to start one simultaneously, especially since I've already booked things and have already started shopping (oh, yes!:cool1:).

We miss Pooh's Corner :worried:. A baby Brynn and tiny Julia played there on our first trip for hours. Also, that playground in ToonTown (or what WAS ToonTown), which had a cover over it. Sigh...
We haven't been back to HISTK since that first trip because the kids kept getting lost. I know, I know, I'm an awesome Mom for letting that happen, but there were two other adults with me!! Plus, it's usually listed as closed while we're there, and then turns out it never is. Hmm.
The BoneYard really WAS closed this trip, and we were all bummed about that. Can't wait for next year, cause mama NEEDS that cool mist spray!

You guys going in September again? We're planning a trip for the first time with our daughter who will be almost 2.5 at the time. Whole new world for us! We liked September 2012 but it was just the 2 of us. I'm interested to see the pace with her. Also struggling with schedule and plan vs none. We did decide to have no in-park plans though!

That's the plan! We love September. We went in May once, but love September way more (other than Flower and Garden Festival at Epcot, which we really enjoyed seeing!).
Pacing with kids is...interesting :thumbsup2. We've never been withOUT kids, so it's all we know. We don't push them, make sure they get enough water and rest, and follow their leads. We do plan our park days and sit-down meals, and those are pretty much set in stone. We do a general plan of which areas we'll be in (for the most part, and not always) for the park, but don't stress if it doesn't follow the plan. We used to really plan out each ride in each park, and when the sickness hit us hard in our 2011 trip, our attitude really had to change.
You will all have so much fun!

Joining in! i found your trip report as i was scrolling through the trip reports forum. I thought your title looked interesting so i clicked on it! Best decision ever! After reading your intros, i went back and read your previous TR's and PTR's. After finishing those, which i thought were amazing by the way, i came back to here! Your girls are just so cute! Definitely princesses! And sawyer is their adorable prince! Right now i'm up to your second MK day. Im sure it was very frustrating to have to deal with those rude CM's at CRT and guest services. Glad that those CM's at your resort were more understanding and kind! Now i've got to go back and finish!

:simba:

When are you guys planning on going in September?! There's a high probability that will we be there from the 10-21st!:goodvibes
