ISEE tests

I'm pretty new to the private school thing. Our 10 1/2 yo DD just moved from public to private school last year so this is only our second year. What's the deal with the ISEE tests? Last night at the school they told us they were more important than the WASL in getting into the "right" middle school. On the other hand, one of the teachers said that extracurricular activities, etc would have just as much bearing as the test. Our DD excels in school, is in the top percentage of her class, so should I be worried? Should I download a bunch of practice tests, buy a book on how to pass the darn thing, etc? HELP!!

I've never heard of ISEE tests. I think that might be because my only child is almost 30 and I'm sort of out of the loop these days.
