Right now, there is a Sheltie owner in Spokane that is probably ready to kill me...

See, every spring, I take our Sheltie in to be shaved. Now, as any dog purist knows, this is not an attractive look for this breed and is frowned upon by those who have a perfect little Lassie themselves - BUT our Levi is an extreme tomboy dog and runs with and swims with our lab and really seems to love his summer-do's. Cut to the chase -

Took him in to a new groomer today. Had the usual discussion about shaving a Sheltie - Yes, I know he will look like a tube sock, yes, I know it takes forever to grow back, yadda, yadda, yadda. After signing away that I will not sue if my dog is tramitized by the other dogs laughing at him, I leave him.

I returned a couple hours later to pick him up and tell them I'm here to pick up Levi, the tube sock Sheltie. Out comes a happy, prancing dog shaved down with a fluffy fox tail that is thrilled to see me. Problem? It's not MY Sheltie. Oops.

Well, Levi got a beautiful groom job and got to keep his hair, for now. Someone else picked up a unexpectedly naked mini-Lassie. Needless to say, they didn't charge me. Wish I could of stuck around to see the other owner's face!:earseek:

I feel sorry for the groomer - she probably having a drink or two by now:drinking:

Oops.

OMG, I bet that owner is so mad!!! I can't even imagine. LOL, on the tube sock description LOL. I used to have a sheltie, never shaved him ,but man his hair was high maintenance.

:scared1:

OMG!!! Can you IMAGINE that owner's face when they showed up to pick up Fido???

I feel so badly for the nakie Sheltie, and their poor humans, but oh my goshness, that groomer must want a hole to just open up and swallow them.

Can you EVEN imagine??

It is very funny, in a sick and twisted sort of way.

Oh NO!!! This is so funny, painful, but funny.

You really should follow up and see what the other owner's reaction is. Though as a proud Sheltie mommy, I'd say I probably won't get too mad if my Sheltie is shaved naked. For one, it's definitely a big saving for a while. No grooming, no flying hair, no constant combing. I bet you the little Sheltie knows though. Mine is always very conscious about his coat and how he doesn't like to get wet in the rain.

:)

Hysterical!!! :rotfl: Hope the poor groomer is licensed and has insurance. Imagine some folks would sue over something like this.

As the owner of 2 Shelties, I can say I would be VERY upset if this happened. I hope that owner takes it better than I would.

Oh my! I can't even imagine what the owner did when they saw their sheltie. I wish you could have seen their reaction.

On the other hand, I know what my reaction would have been if I came back to find Magoo shaved. It would not have been pleasant.

But it's a funny story when it's someone elses sheltie:teeth:

I'm just glad I wasn't at the vet having major surgery done....at least the hair does grow back.

Stranger still, is my dog is a blue merle, the dog they shaved was sable - they didn't even look a thing alike!

Oh my - I even got tagged out of this...

By the way, does the hair grow back as good looking? Do they get more 'rough'?

I have seen Sheltie with the body shaved, but the head still full of hair. Poor dog, get laughed at everywhere. :) They look younger though.

Wish I can get tag at some point in my life. ;)

It does grow back, but the undercoat tends to grow quicker than the outer, silky coat - making it a little harder to brush out in fall.

We have him shaved each spring and by October, its hard to tell it was done. I have them take it all off, except the tail is always a little bushier than the rest of the body! (He looks like a cross between a whippet and a fox!)

ROFL

Are you going to go back to this groomer?

Maybe they'll try and return a sheepdog this time :)

THANK YOU SO MUCH...I LAUGHED SO HARD!

DH and I sometimes 'sit' for a guy at work with a sheltie (princess LB) and I copied your story and sent it to him thinking he'd get a good laugh, too. I sent him the email and it got caught up in our filter system because it had the word naked in it. He sent me an email asking what I was sending him...pictures of naked people! TOO FUNNY!

I'm gonna try again - our regular groomer is back next week and Levi has another appointment.

Hopefully, no other shelties will be harmed in our quest for nakedness.:teeth:

If they get the right dog this time, I'll post a picture!

OMG..I had to wipe off the computer screen..I had just taken a drink!

Although I'm now retired, in my past life as an Animal Lab Tech that worked in private practice, I have to tell you that sometimes people will never find out what went wrong.
We spayed the wrong dog once. It was here for a grooming, got put in the wrong cage, and oops.
Somehow the Vet (they can always get themselves out of this type of stuff) convinced the owner in a phone call, that it was best that this be done for their dog, to prevent some far fetched disease, and since he was involved with the shelter, he knew they were behind in this months free spaying giveaways, and if she wanted to have it done, he could arrange for it to be free.
Whew..she fell for it!

So, do you think the groomer came up with a plausable enough story.

Oh my.......

Possible groomer excuses: [

"It's summer, and he didn't want tan lines!"
"All the shelties are doing it!"
"He won a years worth of free grooming, unfortunately we had to give ALL the haircuts in one day."]
