We are currently booked 3 nights at POFQ (we love POR) on the deluxe dining plan. I was playing around and saw that WL Would be $250 more for standard view or $340 more for courtyard.

We have never stayed at either hotel. But have spent a lot of time at POR. We love it there. We also LOVE staying at the grand Californian in DLR. I think WL has the same type feel but have never done more than walk through.

What would you do? We are spending another 5 nights at BWV after this.

I think I need resort switcher intervention! lol

Ok, I am going to watch this thread with great interest. The kids and I are booked at POR Riverside for the last week in June, and I keep thinking about the WL :confused3. We would love to change to CR or Poly, but it is too much $. WL is still $1k more for the week, so I am wondering if it is worth it too. Funny, we were just at the Grand Cal in January visiting family.

We love it thereso much! If I was guarenteed a experience like that it would be a no brainer!

IMO, yes, it is! I love WL ~ the lobby is amazing and you pass through it everytime you leave or come back to the resort. My DD loved the pool and the boat ride to MK is so nice!

If the $250 isn't going to put any appreciable dent in your finances then I might change. If it would, then I don't know that $80 extra a night is "worth" the change since POFQ is a new resort to you. If you had already stayed at POFQ then I would switch.

In all honesty my biggest worry is the rooms. I love everything I have seen of the resort but the rooms. They just seem blab. The rest of the room has such a wow factor.
We talked about AKL as well we would do pool view then. We have stayed there many times and really like it there but it is familiar.

I have stayed at all three hotels: POFQ, the Grand Californian, and WL. Though we had a very wonderful time during our stay POFQ; the other two hotels are magnificent. I really loved taking the boat ride to MK when we stayed at the WL. I loved the pools (we had access to the DVC member pool at WL) and the general feel of the resort. We took our family on a surrey bike ride while at WL and it is one of my favorite memories.

So, yes, in my view it is worth it to spend a little bit more and get what you will receive from staying there. I did not find the WL rooms 'drab' at all but we did stay in the villa part of it and during that trip we split it with a trip to Vero Beach. When we got back to WL, we had a different room, which was really the same as the first however, I did like our original location better (corner room). I will say, I would not have known I liked it better if we had not moved.

To us, the Grand Californian is the scaled down version of WL. If you love staying at the Grand Californian, you will love staying at the Wilderness Lodge. The boat ride to and from MK from the WL is a really nice ride. Is there a woods room, somewhere in between those prices? If so that is what I would pick. We have stayed at the WL 3 times, and done each of the views. The time we did standard (our honeymoon), we were over the trash/service area and were woke up every morning by the sound of the back up beeps of trucks. Just bad luck, in the room we were assigned I supposed. We really enjoyed the woods and the room was quiet. The Courtyard is also nice, but it was a little noisier than the woods. We were right above the area just outside quick service where there are tables and where everybody walks to and from the boat dock. Not bad at all, but we preferred the nice peaceful woods room. The nice thing about the courtyard was that if you wanted to keep an eye on someone in the pool area you could do that from the balcony.

I think it depends on how much of the hotel amenities you actually plan on using. If your hitting a park every single day, then no I dont think it's worth it to upgrade.
If you are planning on spending most of your time at the resort, then I would consider it.
But sometimes upgrading although nice, doesn't mean it always suits your family. I know from the Grand Floridian, although very pretty, it wasnt us.
We upgraded to a Mod this time, because we are planning on being in the hotel more then the parks, if it was the other way, we would have done the Values.

Go with the WL. It is my absolute favorite hotel. I had reservations in October at POR and on the second day, paid the upgrade and moved to WL. It rained a good bit and I cannot begin to tell you how nice it was to be inside at the WL and not have to go out in the rain to get to a restaurant, shop or front desk.

In addition, the lodge just has that great get away feel to it.

Good luck with your decision.

For us, the extra cost would definitely be worth it. We've never stayed at POFQ, but we love the WL. The lobby is breathtaking, the pool is great, Roaring Forks is one of our favorite resort CS places, and we love taking the boat to MK as well as to the CR where we can hop on the monorail to shop or dine at the Poly and GF :).

I would definitely upgrade. :thumbsup2 Especially with the DxDP, the access to the restaurants on the monorail loop can't be beat!

Yes!

We love the WL. The rooms never seemed drab to us. Andthe boat to MK is a plus.

Maybe  Depends on what you are looking for. POFQ rooms have recently been refirbed. They look very nice. WL rooms are going to start refirbs in April.

We love WL, but have to say, the rooms are looking tired. But the perks for me off set the room. I like inside halls, and having a balcony. Also the prox. to MK, and the MK resorts, nice for easy transp. for ADRs. Love the lobby, pool, hot tubs and theming of WL. Also they have great CMs. A beautiful resort. And the boat to MK is a nice way to get to the park. Or back to WL.
They also have a resort boat that loops around WL, CR & FW.

For me it's totally worth $250 extra.

But POFQ is a very nice resort. We stay at POR Riverside, it's our fav moderate.

I think it is worth the difference. We stayed there back in 2009 and loved it!! Enjoyed to boat ride to the MK. So relaxing!! Grandsons really loved WL especially Whispering Canyons Cafe!! Don't ask for ketchup!!!
