We are going to MK tonight specifically for dinner at Narcooses then Wishes. There is a 60-80% chance of rain....:sad1: What does it take for Disney to call off Wishes??

Yes. Rain or not.

It takes a major thunderstorm (lightning and strong winds) to cancel the show.

Once the fireworks are loaded for the show, they must be fired at some point,
so they might as well run the show when at least some guests are there to see them.

.

Agree. I've watched the glow from Wishes on Main Street before when it was raining and there was a very low cloud ceiling.

Only a thunderstorm and wind will make them call it off. Especially the wind. Only we were in Disneyland for a week and due to bad weather and high winds, it was cancelled every night for 5 nights. That's unusual though.

I've been there when it was cancelled due to severe weather. It was absolutely pouring raining with thunder and lightning and it lasted for at least a few hours. The rain started like 30 minutes before wishes. On my wife's first day at the parks no less...September 26, 2009 what a horrible day. The canceling of Wishes was the least of our problems that day.

I was there for a Halloween party in 2011 and unfortunately it was raining pretty darn hard and they cancelled it. It was a total bummer because of the extra cost spent for the party and then we were basically robbed by Mother Nature of fireworks and the parade and the headless horseman!

I looked for the answer to this question before our last trip too, because I had booked the dessert party. Everything I saw was all - don't worry about it - only in the worst storms will they cancel it. Well, on our party night, they postponed it and postponed it and postponed it. We left. They ultimately shot off the fireworks at midnight (according to our server at California Grill the next night). It was a bust.

Yes, it was raining, but I didn't consider it truly horrible weather. One of the CMs told us that if there are lightning strikes within a certain mile radius, they can't shoot them off. So, I guess that's what was happening. There were lightning strikes at times. No bad wind.

Anyway, it does happen.

Yep, our experience matches Itchin2go. Typical balmy and rainy August evening after a thunderstorm last year. It was still lightly raining at 8:00 when we arrived at MK but it stopped. And they postponed, and postponed. There were planes circling the area and we debated whether it was worth staying. It never did storm in the MK again, but apparently local lightning and seemingly light winds were a concern.

We were there in September 2012 and it started to POUR as soon as it started. As we were trying to leave (with millions of other people) we were basically caught in a bottleneck in a mob of people with limited visibility (hoods of ponchos) and strollers. It was actually pretty scary. So it was ironic that the speakers were playing "when you wish upon a star." I told my husband that it was anti-stampede music. After that experience, we started watching from the top of the train station for an easy exit plan.

During and after the fireworks, that location IS good for an easy exit.
But, I can't say that it is a good place to experience the fireworks.

And, it is a really bad place to see "Celebrate the Magic" which most guests forget to
include in their parade and fireworks discussions. CtM is considered by many to be more
unique, exciting and fun than either the parade of the fireworks.

They leave the lights of Main Street on full level at that southern end of the street,
and even the lights on that train station balcony are up at full level
throughout the shows. (That allows lighting for guests who actually want to exit MK DURING these evening
spectaculars.) I can't say that I enjoy watching a nighttime spectacular with bright lights shining in my eyes.

Regardless, if "easy exit" is the main focus, the train station balcony is a good choice.
But, if experiencing CtM and Wishes is the primary goal, the northern half of Main St. and in the Hub
would be the place to do that.

Just wanted to add that some nights when there is a sever thunderstorm in the area they will delay the fireworks until the danger is passed. We live only a couple of miles from the MK and can usually set our watch by the Wishes fireworks. In the past week I've notice at least one night that they went off ~40 minutes later than scheduled.

Wishes is handled differently than the Frozen fireworks. We went to DHS one night for the fireworks and there was a thunderstorm in the area (not raining at the park) so they cancelled the fireworks that night.

I was there a few years ago and with a big storm moving in, Wishes started 15 minutes early. No announcement.

It ended mere moments before a deluge of water fell from the sky.
