Is Whispering Canyon any good?

KIS- I'll also be staying @ the Dolphin, and plan to try Whispering Canyon too. We decided to rent a car for our trip, but if you're using Disney transportation, walk to MGM and catch the bus to Wilderness Lodge.

We have plans to eat lunch here one day and have a PS for 12:30pm---anybody know if they do the pony races, etc. during this time? I know my kids would really enjoy this, so if lunch isn't a good time for this, then I'll have to re-think my itinerary and plan either a breakfast or dinner. Thanks for the info.

The pony rides sounds cute. It actually sounds like good, clean, silly fun.

The location sounds a little difficult. If I can't work it in for this trip it will be on our list for our second WDW adventure.

As for the Whispering Canyon, I haven't eaten there yet, but I will be when I go in December so I can't help you out now. Just wanted to say hi to a fellow Rocklander.

We've eaten lunch there three times in the last three years, and each time, they've done the pony races...but not always the hokey pokey. The antics change and are dependent upon the server. Our server last week was really laid back which my dh was happy about...but a couple tables over, the server was hilarious and we enjoyed watching the antics...and my son was able to participate in a couple of them as well as the pony ride. There was no hokey pokey this last time, but there was the two other times we were there at lunch - one of which my sister had the "honor" of leading. While you can't guarantee something will be happening any time you are there...I think going at a peak lunch time like that would increase your chances that the kids will at least be able to run around the restaurant during the pony ride. Have fun!

Kis, you can take the boat from the Dolphin to MGM and then a bus to WL. You could also take a bus from the Dolphin to TTC and then a bus to the WL. The bus ride from TTC to WL is a very short ride.

Not only is the food great at WC but the servers have silly great names like our favorites "Chris B. Corny" & "Tiny". If you have a sense of humor and don't mind being a little embarrassed at times you'll have a blast. Not only do kids get to ride pony's - My DH and I had to ride around the restaurant during lunch.
Definitely a must see!

There are so many fun sounding things going on at WDW. I know we won't be able to do them all and I am assuming we will have to come back. I haven't even been there once and I am saying that. KIS

Kis, the boat from the Dolphin to MGM would take about 10 minutes and the bus ride from MGM to WL about 15 minutes. The total amount of time would depend on the wait time. I would plan on an hour. If you have PS's and get to the WL early, just look around the lodge. I haven't taken the bus from the Dolphin to TTC and then WL, but it would take about the same amount of time, with the waiting for transportation, being the big factor.

I enjoy the boat ride and always take it.

Since WC serves breakfast, lunch and dinner you may be able to work it into one of your MK days. You would just take the boat (10 minutes ride) over from the mk and back gain! See menus at wdwig.com

We aren't big eater and often share meals. What is good at WC? Meatloaf, pork chops, and which dessert? We are eating there about 7:20 on 07/26/03. Getting hungry already? This is a anniversary trip. We are taking our 7 year neice and this is her first trip. I am hoping she has a blast eating here.

Its funny how two people can watch these Travel Channel specials and walk away with different impressions! I had always had Whispering Canyon on my mental list of places to try, becuase the menu seems appealing, but I just watched that WL special and I thought it did a pretty good job of making Whispering Canyon look like Hell on Earth. The sceaming waiters and waitresses-- they showed one table while a waitress was screaming about the ketchup and the patron was rolling his eyes and looking miserable like he wanted to sink in the ground. I suppose they were turning it on for the cameras, but it turned me off!

The funny thing is, I had always avoided Prime-Time because of the "show" aspect, but the segment on Disney Unwrapped made me change my mind-- mostly because I was taken with the design of the restaurant and the trouble they'd taken to find genuine fifties knick-knacks. So, you know, I'm not a total killjoy. I just want my server to be nice to me.

I enjoyed the Pork Chops, 2 large prime cuts and mine were very tender. The Buttermilk Mashd potato's were a hit with us as well. My DD had the Susan Steak and she rated it high.
For Dessert the Triple Chocolate Moose Stampede cake. Very rich, so might want to share, but to die for.
