I saw this restaurant on some travel channel show and it looks like an absolute hoot! Is it any good? Who's been there? What did you think? I might want to try this place next time I go (in 170+ days).

hi,

my dh and i really like whispering canyon. on our last trip we ate there three times. once for breakfast and twice for dinner. they have typical bbq fare and an all you can eat skillet (good deal).

we were actually surprised on our last dinner. they had tuna on the menu, and it was great. my dh ordered it and you would have thought came from artist point (another great restaurant in wilderness lodge, but more costly.)

anyway, give whispering canyon a try. make priority seating arrangements and go at peak times for breakfast or dinner. that's when they have all the fun.

oh and by the way: for dessert they have the most delicious cake: the triple chocolate moose stampede cake. i am addicted to this cale. a kaluha flavored cake filled with chocolate mousse and iced with fudge frosting. wonderful. never leave without taking a piece to go. :D

We had dinner there on our trip last month. It was one of our favorite restaraunts we visited this trip. Most of our party did the all you can eat barbecue and it was great. The salad was very good! It was our first time there and it will now be included in our itenerary on our next trips!!!! YUM! (Don't forget to ask for ketsup!!!! )

We were there on 7/4. The food was very good but the meal was very rushed. Our food came before our salads. It might have been because it was the 4th of July, but I was a little disappointed.

We just spent this week at WL and we agree with what has been posted so far. We had very good service and the food was far better then some of the places where we paid twice the amont. You don't walk out of WC feeling hungry and broke. Hope you get to see the Kids Pony Races. The cake is to die for, but very rick, we share a piece. My favorite is the cornbread.
We never had a PS, but since we were staying at WL might make a difference I don't know

We are going to WC in August. Can I ask Dizneykid - what time is peak time in a resort restaurant?

Thank you.

We did Whispering Canyon for breakfast, and LOVED it!!

My youngest did the breakfast skillet, while the rest of us ordered a la carte - omelets, french toast, etc. We loved it - the food was delicious, the service was great, and the kids had a ball in the pony race!

I think you really have to enjoy being picked on by the wait staff, loud kids running around, and the like to get a kick out of this restaurant. We found it a bit overwhelming after a long day in the parks, therefore we prefer to go at breakfast. We also prefer the breakfast food to the lunch or dinner menu.

It really isn't for everyone.:)

robbie fowler,

my dh and i were just talking about "peak" times. trying to remember. it seemed for breakfast that about from 8:00 a.m. until 9:30 or so seemed when there were alot of people there. it seems that they do most of their antics when the restaurant is crowded. we had gotten there for breakfast around 10:15 and it was slow. they did some things but not much.

also, at dinner time, it seemed that from 6:00 until around 8:00 or 8:30 it seemed to be very fun there. they even had my dh stand up and sing "my little buttercup" from "the three amigos movie" standing in a chorus line with about 10 other men. lol. they had lots of pony races that night and birthday singing.

i guess it will all depend on the time of year and how crowded it gets. summer must be a blast. hope this helps. :D

p.s. drop your fork, or ask for ketsup, or a straw or drink your beverage very quickly and tell them you are thirsty and see what happens.

We have a PS for 7.00pm 26th August so looks like we will see some entertainment!!!

Thanks again.

I have eaten here a couple times for breakfast and liked it. We get the family style breakfast and everything is good except for the little waffles shaped like pine cones. They are cute and the flavor is good but ther were always luke warm. The hash brouns were great.
I have been for lunch a couple times and ordered off the ala carte menue and it was very good as well.
It has been quite fun there too with ketchup cases, horse races and hokey pokey dancing!!! :)

Isn't that what vacations are all about? Then we return to our normal daily routines. I am 70 and enjoyed the antics. Laugh when you can sez I.

We ate there for lunch last week...my son and I like this place, my DH does not. Anyway, we had to drag him there this time by starving him first so he'd be ready to eat anywhere. (We've eaten there twice before.) I had a delicious salad this time - a nutty chicken salad...something like that. It was very good. My DH also had a different salad he said was equally good, my DS had a huge burger and then an even larger piece of apple pie for dessert that was quite delicious. We didn't get the all you can eat this time, but have had it in the past and enjoyed it. It can be a good value if you have people with you that have large appetites...last year I had my brother, nephew, son and my husband with me and the bbq skillet option worked well in that situation.

MY DH doesn't like it because he HATES getting picked for anything. You have to be ready to be fair game. After my sister got pulled out of her chair and had to lead everyone in the Hokey Pokey, he never felt safe there again ...but my son loves joining in all the action so he grudgingly goes.

I was a volunteer for Make-A-Wish and saw the sad side of Child hood.
To sit in a place like WC and watch the wide eyed excitement of little people erases some of the pain I endured during that time.

We ate here this morning (actually Friday morning - it's getting pretty late) and we loved it. The food was very good and an excellent value. The gravy is the best I've ever had. Our DD, age 6 loved the pony races and the ketchup runs. We had to ask for ketchup for our hashbrowns and she loved the excitement and then couldn't wait to parade them to the next table. This will be a must do for us from now on.

I'm a first time planner for a trip to WDW in April 2004. I'm fairly new to these boards. I have read a little about this WC restaurant.

I shied away from it up to now, but I'd like to reconsider.

I've been figuring if we are going to the HDD, Ohanas, and about 5 character meals (2 breakfasts, lunches), then that's enough entertainment at meals. Since we're staying at a different resort, the Dolphin, I figured it would be a schlep to get over to this restaurant, even though I don't know exactly where it is.

I wasn't too wild myself about the teasing. Antics is one thing. Teasing another. Still, now I'm reading about pony rides and the hokey pokey and reconsidering. What exactly goes on that people are now referring to pony rides and the hokey pokey? Are there actual pony rides or is this where my husband and I give our child a pony ride on our backs?

Tell me more about this place. Also, where is it located and how do other resort guests travel there? Specifically, if someone know how to get there from the dolphin and how long it take to travel from there, I'd appreciate it.

I've been twice- once for lunch and once for dinner- and plan on going back. I like the BBQ skillet- you get to try a little of everything. The cornbread and biscuits are very good! I found the antics hilarious and had a great time. The rest of our group even went back a second time while DH and I had a date night our last night at WDW. (And they liked it just as much the 2nd time)

KIS-

The Pony Rides are not actual pony rides, but you don't have to get down on all fours either! They are those wooden stick ponies you can get in a toy store, and the kids all gather around and they race around the perimeter of the restaurant. Afterwards they get a little certificate that they participated. It's cute. The Hokey- Pokey is the standard dance- you put your right foot in, you put your right foot out, etc.

This restaurant is at the Wilderness Lodge, which is near the Magic Kingdom. It is a gorgeous hotel and you will like seeing it, regardless of eating at the restaurant. To get there might take awhile. You will need to take a WDW bus to Downtown Disney (from the Dolphin) and then transfer to the Wilderness Lodge. If you plan your visit to the Whispering Canyon after a day at the MK, there is a direct boat launch to the Wilderness Lodge. It would be easiest to take a cab back to the Dolphin afterwards, but you could take a bus back to Downtown Disney and transfer there to a Dolphin bus.

Itis at the Wilderness Lodge. The pony rides is each child gets a old fashion pony head on a stick. They then line up and WALK around the dining room while the adults wave their bandanna napkins and cheer. The tease is in good taste and fun let your hair down for some fun amd laughs.

Transportation to WL, all resorts, is from a park.

Be aware that the amount of action going on can depend on the time you eat there. We had an early breakfast one time just after they opened. There were not many people so there was no singing, pony rides or any of that kind of thing. We did get the ketchup treatment and I saw one server playing with some kids at their table but there was no group fun. On the other hand I was in the lobby at about 9:30 in the evening in May and the place was wild with singing and howling and such.
