I was on Tripadvisor and read a review of Wesgate Lakes Resort & Spa and the owner said that the he attend an owner update and that the resort was being sold and under new management. Then on another board I saw that Wesgate Lakes Resort & Spa was hiring 150 new people. I'm a Westgate Owner who in 2006 was suckered in to buying but I have never stayed there and I am concerned or happy if this is true. Has anyone else on here heard this? Please post your comments? Here is the Tripadvisor Link

Given the horrible history of Westgate including criminal convictions and railroading owners and worse it will be a blessing when that corrupt group is ousted and a hopefully quality and honest & independent group brought in.

Unfortunately that post on trip advisor is just a guests opinion - no facts whatsoever to back it up. It will be a great day for owners when in fact the current corrupt management is shown the door at last.

We are staying at Westgate in July. A family member owns 2 weeks and gave us 1 and another family member 1. We were going to stay at one of the value resorts, but since it's only going to cost us $140 for the whole week, it was kind of a no-brainer. Needless to say I started reading reviews immediately, and have been SO worried about our stay! Some of the reviews I read (can't remember where exactly I saw them) dating back several months said something about them trying to sell it, so I hope this is really the case! It would save some stress over the next few months!

I just read some more recent reviews and they were good. Has anyone been recently?

We had a horrible experience with Westgate in Orlando. My DH is about as calm as they come and he completely lost his cool with the salesman/men. Then when we didn't buy, they refused to have the shuttle (that brought us across the resort) back to our car and made us walk and find our own way.

Westgate is probably the most ruthless salespeople out there. I let them know from the beginning that I'm BROKE lol and unless they are paying for my transportation to get to my "guaranteed" yearly vacation, I'm not buying . . . but you can try to convince me.

Worse thing about Lakes is the parking . . . OMG it's terrible. Plus the carts just don't care if you hit them or not . . . they pull out like they own the joint.

I have never been harrassed, but this weekend is my first time I will be staying with them under "tour" terms, so I am interested to see how it goes. I'm there Thursday to Monday, and I made sure I booked the tour on Sunday, because I don't want a decline in service when I tell them no. Also we all have cell phones so the phone will go off the hook if they get pushy.

Did they ever finish that waterpark they were touting for a few years?

Both waterparks - at WG Lakes & Villas/Town Center are nothing more than big holes in the ground. They of course had money for sales but ran low when it came to delivering promised features. Not as bad as LV (the WG Tower of Terror) where over 1/2 the resort is unlikely to ever get built as promised & that which was built is not the creative design promised but a cheap imitation.

Wastegate is the worst - and the budding tenement type over-dense mess at the Lakes is all too typical of their never ending desire to build on every square inch and never stop selling. Avoid them whenever possible.

Yea I really was looking at other options, but I needed somewhere that would sleep up to 12, and they gave me the 4 nights in a 3 bedroom villa for $480 and threw in $300 in Theme Park Cash . . . so essentially $180 for a 4 night holiday weekend (the catch was the tour but oh well) accomdating 12 people. I couldn't beat it. Plus it is a bonus for us to have a basketball court, pools and tennis courts.

I tried Orange Lake and they wanted $1000 and no theme park cash. Other places were well East of I-4 on 192, and I figured that was too far for a Universal trip having 2 big cars in rotation. They really have a good location for everything.

Sucks how they mislead people, as they were talking up that water park real heavy last time I went, and ESPECIALLY that Vegas superstar building. I literally smh every time I'm on one of these tours and they announce somebody just signed for a new timeshare and everybody applauses. That will never be me . . . atleast not at Westgate.
