Is Voyage of the Little Mermaid a Goner?

One of the things Jim Hill is throwing out there is that by the time the Little Mermaid hits Broadway in the next year or two, the show at MGM will be pulled. He opines that Tarzan Rocks was yanked due in part to the new Tarzan musical.

My first thought was that Beauty and the Beast have been on both Broadway and in the parks so I don't really believe him. Plus, the show is popular. But I was wondering if anyone else heard this.

Not heard this but I cant imagine them pulling it. Its still very popular and drawing lots of folks.

I believe I read that rumor from Jim Hill (but, I'm too lazy to go check). If I recall, the rumor is that they will be shuttering Millionaire, One Man's Dream and Mermaid. Then some new attraction(s) will replace. Of course, merely rumor at this point.

This rumor came in conjucntion with the Midway Madness rumor. He claims that Mermaid will be shutting sometime in 2007 because it is going to Broadway soon after that, and then claims that Midway is being put there to fill the gap, all because the horrible grubbing Disney Theatrical division wants to make sure there is no competition in the parks for the Broadway play and all those cute little kids that come to WDW will just have to sit and cry.

There are SO many thing wrong with that logic, including the obvious examples of the Legend of the Lion King and Beauty and the Beast, that it seems like just another way for Jim Hill to be negative about Disney. Either way, it isn't closing this year, regardless of what the reasons may be.

His whole premise is so faulty that one can only shake their head and cry at it.

As already mentioned, they did just fine having FOTLK and BatB in a WDW park and Broadway at the same time.

Besides, it doesn't make any sense. Does anyone think there are people who go to WDW and would see VOTLM and then say "Well, kids, now that we saw it at WDW we aren't going to see it on Broadway"? Just ludicrous.

I would imagine Tarzan Rocks closed down because it was not getting enough guests and had been around awhile. I don't know this for a fact. But that would be the assumption.
I think we all could think of rumors to write, with something eventually being correct. :rotfl2:

I agree that it was not getting the attendance that it once got. We were there over the Christmas Break last year (typically a wall to wall expereince of people and crowds) and they could barely fill the theatre half way. Tarzan Rocks was an awesome show but just not getting enough visitors. :cool1:

I was under the impression Tarzan Rocks closed because the open-air structure would have been too noisy with EE now there. I am not sure why they didn't just enclose the theater and continue Tarzan Rocks, but there was a reason. I just can't remember what it was :confused3

I was told that to from a CM. They were closing TR because of the noise from EE. But they also said they werent sure what was going to happen to that area at that time.

The Little Mermaid always is packed every time we go--but I suppose that won't stop them if they really want to deep-six it. I'll make an EXTRA attempt to see it the next few trips--just in case!!!

I can't believe they would be closing VOTLM anytime in the near future. It is always packed whenever we are there. :)
