Is Universal Orlando Repeating Disney World's Mistake?

Lol...

You do realize this is the 100% undisputed slowest day of the calendar year, right?

The only other day in the running is the first non-day off after New Years...January 2,3, or 4th

Ack! Didn't even consider today is the day after Labor Day! :scared:

My point was regarding Madonna3 complained about not getting fastpasses, and while admittedly today is not a great comparison day, fastpasses are generally available even up to the day of entry. The 60 day window really only affects the two rides I mentioned.

Soooo... I'm not understanding your point. I think you're illustrating mine that AP holders aren't hogging all the fastpasses. Is that correct?

I don't think anyone is hogging all of the fastpasses. They are generally available even 24 hours out. So if someone said that AP holders ARE (currently) hogging fastpasses, I would disagree.

BTW, I think it is fair to give resort guests first crack at them as well.

The 2nd-4th you have the arrival of marathoners. I for example arrive the 2nd. So that first week isn't completely dead.

Um...if the calendar lines up up - I suppose. It was a ghost town before marathon...and it would be Again if the marathon was on the 12th

Not completely "too literal"...but maybe a tad

Marathon is on the 8th, half is on the 7th, 10K on the 6th, 5K on the 5th, expo starts on the 4th. I've done marathon weekend the past two years. That week is not a ghost town. After that week I don't know nor do I really care. Marathon weekend isn't as high as summer or Christmas crowds though.

That's actually who I am - a Florida Resident AP holder ;) Yes we do go on the weekends and might spend less overall on tickets/admission per day via an AP. However, we also spend a lot more at Disney Springs, souvenirs, food, long weekend visits at Disney hotels, etc. on a routine basis that makes Disney a bunch of $$ as compared to the person that might only come once every year or 2.

I've been saying this same thing for years! We make day trips several times a month, long weekends at least 3-4 times a year, and since I live an hour away, driving over for just dinner often too. I should keep track of my spending over the course of a year, I'm sure it would be quite significant.

Ok...I withdraw the comparison...

But know these two things:

Marathon used to be the SECOND weekend of January.

And when it was...the first week was DEAD.

And thirdly...before there was no
Marathon and it was REALLY dead.

I definitely was too literal on this one...you, as always, earned the Literal Man of the Year Award. Life did exist before 2005...

...and there's no guarantee they can't move the marathon again ;)

The marathon is always the second weekend of January it has and remains that way. It just so happens the 1st is a Sunday.

The marathon turns 25 next year, that's before 2005 ;)

Call me literal all you want I'm just stating facts.

If January first was a Monday...then the marathon would be the 13-14...

So riddle me this - who would be in the park on January 2-5?

Woah! Hold on there. I was not complaining about not getting fastpasses. I was responding to someone complaining the AP holders take up all the fastpasses. which I said we do not. I have no problems getting a fastpass for the most part.

Yes, someone said the AP holders were taking all the fastpasses. I disagreed, so we agree :P

Do you realize I often can't get a fastpass+ because the NON AP holders have booked them 90 days out and I can't do that?!

I booked my fastpasses on the way there so that means I took up whatever was left over that others didn't want to ride, and I went home at the end of the night.

Most of us just take the leftovers as most of us don't plan our trips that far out.

I interpreted those as complaining: "I can't get a fastpass" and "just take the leftovers"

"I often can't get a fastpass+" != "I have no problems getting a fastpass for the most part"

I'm sorry for my confusion. I should have clarified to say that it's usually times that are difficult, not the fastpasses themselves. Thanks for pointing out how that can be easily misinterpreted. Sorry!

What I should have said was:

I often find that while I can get fastpasses for nearly anything I want to ride, I have to be flexible on times. That often results in riding much later into the day than perhaps we'd sometimes like.

Yeah it's weird this year with Christmas being on a Sunday. I'm not sure if it's normal but my son's school doesn't even resume until Jan 9th. I'd bet if other districts did the same thing, you'll see a slight uptick in post holiday travel.

School calendars are very regional now...
Mine are there 1/2...and should be
