Is Toy Story Mania wait times still that long?

The time before last that we went to disney, TSM had just opened and it was impossible to get into. The last time we went the lines were just as long as the 1st time and the fp times were hours from when we were there, so we have never done it. Just curious if the new has worn off any or if the lines are still hours long. I guess with there not being that much for small kids at DHS that they all want to do TSM, apparently over and over. I can do an hour line, but beyond that, I'm not interested, maybe if my kids were smaller, but there are 13 and 15.

TSMM lines are topping out at an hour and a half right now it looks, but on busier days they get longer. They aren't getting shorter than 45 minutes either. This might change with the re-opening of Star Tours which has been designed to make people want to ride it repeatedly.

Most people advise hitting TSMM immediately at rope drop, or at least get a Fastpass immediately at rope drop.

Still very long with fastpasses gone early in the day.Honestly, until they add another Family friendly ride to DHS, It is probably going to stay pretty busy

We were there last week and at 10am the wait was 40 minutes and the fast pass comeback was 4pm. We passed it by I don't do waits longer than 20 min for anything.
With new rides or attractions I think they should remove fastpass and just let people wait. It's like finding level with water.

Wait times actually got worse after the refurb last year. I don't remember why, I think they added some gates at the unloading spot or something. I also think the reduced the number of fastpasses distributed every day, thereby escalating the rate at which the return time advanced.

The waits are out of control there. I think they really need to do something about it. It's a cool ride but I just don't see why the wait times are what the are.

Hopefully the new Star Tours ride takes away some of that but I just don't see that happening.

Sorry, but that doesn't compute.

You say you won't wait in a line longer than 20 minutes,
but you want to guarantee (without FP) the line on popular new attractions will always be longer than 20 minutes.

1- Wait times actually got worse after the refurb last year. I don't remember why,

2- I think they added some gates at the unloading spot...

3- I also think the reduced the number of fastpasses distributed every day, thereby escalating the rate at which the return time advanced.

1- Yes.
2- Yes.
3- That is a direct result of the new gates slowing the exit time:
Thereby increasing the overall time the vehicles were in the load/unload area:
Thereby decreasing the number of guests the ride can handle, per hour (and per day:)
Thereby lowering the number of FP's that can be distributed, to match the new lowered ride capacity.

we went one evening this week, I think it was Sunday (Mother's day). we got there around 6:00pm and we went to it. the wait time said 40 minutes, but we got in line. it took us 25 minutes from getting in the line to getting in the car. we were surprised that we managed a walk in during the evening. There was no fantasmic that night and most of the rides were walk on. We had no wait for anything. we choose to only go to the studios during the nights where there is no fantasmic scheduled (like tonight -- Tuesday). It's hot here right now and only getting hotter.

There are no exit gates.... I don't understand why these keep getting mentioned. If they were there for a time, they are gone.

The lines are still long I'm sure, though there's probably good news and bad news about the lines. The bad news is that the busy season is about to begin in ernest. The good news is that the new star wars attraction is about to open which should take quite a bit of the pressure off.

They added safety gates that open up to meet the exit side of the car, and it mostly prevents children from wandering off the ride vehicle and onto the track path. From what I could see, they seem to work pretty efficiently and open up rather quickly. But, apparently, the issue is with closing the gates back and departure of the vehicle. We were there last week and waited in line for over an hour, and I watched the operation a couple of times, but really couldn’t see where the issue was

Toy Story Mania reopening from refurbishment one day later than originally scheduled
Aug 28, 2010

The Toy Story Mania refurbishment has been extended by a day and will now reopen on Monday August 30 2010. It has been closed since*August 16*2010 for installation of new air gates in the unload area.

Are there lines FOR fastpasses? I don't plan to do the run to TSM but we do plan to go there within the first hour of the park being open just to grab a FP for later use. Should I plan on having to wait in line or do they spit those FP's out pretty quickly?

Took the words right out of my mouth. For people that can't stomach Tower of Terror or the coaster, TSMM is pretty much the attraction. DHS really needs another less extreme headliner. Hopefully Star Tours will help with it.

On our trip it seemed like almost everyone at rope drop was heading for TSMM. I got in the FP line after being pretty near the front for rope drop and still had a return time after 10:00AM. Returning with a FP was quick and easy, but I would not have waited in the standby line.

1- Yes. (Not always, but many times.)

2- Yes. (How LONG a line is anybody's guess, and can vary by which line you pick, etc.)

3- Yes. But, there are SO MANY guests trying to get a FP at that time.

We were at Hollywood Studios last wednesday and happened to be there for the park opening. We wanted to get a fastpass for Toy Story Mania but by the time we got over there to get a fastpass for TSM there was already a long line up of people who were also waiting for fastpasses. Granted the line moved quickly, but still. We were able to get a fastpass for between 11:00am and 12:00pm and that was at like 9:10am. The fastpasses for the morning times and afternoon times often go quickly, but you may be able to get a fastpass for the evening times if you were to head over there in the late morning.

They had people taking tickets to put in the fastpass machines once you got up to one which helped to keep the line moving.

We like to ride, but aren't heartbroken if we miss it. So our approach is to be there at rope drop, but do something ELSE for the first hour. By then the crowds should have cleared out some near the FP machines. Makes for a much less stressful start to the day. I refuse to start my day as part of a stampede. Of course, by then, the return times are later into the afternoon, but that's not a problem for us.

That is exactly why rope drop & a fast pass "runner" is critical for DHS for people who want ride TSM but aslo practice successful FP management! I act as our "runner" (No - I don't actually run!) and get the TSM fast passes. Usually, the kids and DH will head off to ToT while I get the passes. We then meet up and ride ToT and RnRR a few more times collect a FP for RnRR to use later in the day. Then we go and use our FP's for TSM whenever we want.

By utilizing this strategy, we have done several rides as well as have our FPs for TSM and RnRR to use when we want. We have managed to this all before someone who arrives at the park at 9:30-10 has barely walked through the gate.

We had never done a rope drop before so it was a little bit shocking considering that 5 minutes after I got the fastpass the line up for fastpasses was quite short. When I got the fastpass the line stretched to One Man's Dream :lmao:. But after that we headed over to ToT and there was nobody over there.
