My sons and I had a very good view of Tink from the dessert buffet when we watched the fireworks on 12/22. "She" flew right over us. And I have to say that the body shape looked very male. I'm just wondering if we are right.

There was a thread on this a couple of years ago with pictures that looked quite convincing :lmao: it was pretty funny. Try searching "Tinker-male", it should pull up... although the boards are moving so slowwwww tonight, it might be tomorrow before the search completes.

tinker bell is a pixie. pixies are sometime boys. therefore tinker bell is sometimes a boy.

LOL. Yes, we had a very good view of Tinker-male a few times and we totally think "she" is a "he". LOL

Oh No not another Tinker Bill thread.

Cue: Robo with a pic of Tinker Bill

If I recall, the general consensus on the last thread was that it was a woman, just had a lot of equipment such as a harness on under the costume. I think someone "in the know" confirmed that they are women.

You would be surprised at
. . . the gender
. . . the low amount of hours they each work daily
. . . the high amount of pay they get as "independent contractors"
. . . the height and weight requirements

There is absolutely no truth to the rumor.

:rotfl:

I was waiting for Robo and Tinker Bill to show up!

I've heard (ick I hate spreading rumors) that, yes, Tink is indeed played by both sexes.

Be glad that WDW doesn't have the freaky mask that Tink at DL wears.

You can see the mask a bit in this pic:

Disney is very particular about keeping the magic. I know the pic seems like it, but I find it very hard to believe they would let a performer with a mustache go out when men are barely allowed to have mustaches period. And also knowing how close she flies to the Guests and the power of today's zoom lenses.
Another thing too is the fact that Tink's friends must meet certain weight and height requirements. A stocky person would not.
Gotta give them a little credit here people. Disney is very good at 'keeping the magic' for it's Guests.

Tink is most definitely a girl (not conjecture, I actually new a girl who played her once). It would have to be an anorexic guy for him to meet the weight requirements. They are really stringent. Ever wonder why she doesn't fly every night even when the weather's good? If she doesn't weigh in within a very narrow margin she doesn't fly.

I don't know why people have this idea that if it's a girl then it should look like a girl in a bathing suit connected by dental floss to the wire. If you're admitting that it's not really Tink, but an actress, then you should be admitting that she has to have the wings attached somehow (they're not glued on) all the lights, a harness, plus her costume over everything. Any woman would look a little beefy in all that. The harness isn't designed to accentuate her womanly curves.

While I'm not saying that the Tink you saw was not a male, back when I was in college, I worked with a tiny gymnast girl who was auditioning for the Tinkerbell job at Tokyo Disney. All of the character roles have very rigid height requirements, both for costuming and aesthetic reasons, and Tinkerbell is no exception. I can't remember exactly what she said about them, but she was barely five feet tall, and she fit within that rigid height range.

She was auditioning to both play the part in meet and greets and to fly. Given that she was the right height, I'd say that the chances of your Tink being male are much smaller (no pun intended) than her being female, unless Disney has since changed their view of what constitutes an adequate "flying" Tinkerbell.

This was some years ago now, though, so if someone from the park could clarify, I'd be much obliged.

^^^ I'd love to know the answer to all of the above. If I'm not mistaken Samantha Brown said "Tink" gets paid a very hefty fee each time she 'flies.' I believe she said it was $10K per drop! :scared1:, but please don't quote me on it. That's what I thought I heard in one of the travel channel Disney specials with Samantha Brown. Btw, SB also said her favorite place to watch Wishes was from the Contemporary Resort's viewing deck after a late Cali Grill dinner. ;)

1- I believe she said it was $10K per drop! :scared1:, but

2- please don't quote me on it.

3- That's what I thought I heard in one of the travel channel Disney specials with Samantha Brown. Btw, SB also said her favorite place to watch Wishes was from the Contemporary Resort's viewing deck after a late Cali Grill dinner. ;)

1- Well, no.
2- Too late! :goodvibes
3- What the real situation seems to be (what has been the case) is that Tink gets paid for a "full day"
(I'm thinking around "union scale" for an 8 hour day) just for the single "flight."

This is very interesting. That pic Robo posted sure looks liek a guy to me.

And, I can't help any with that, either.

I didn't take the photo.

I just found it on the web several years ago (uncredited, even then)
and stored the image... just in case the discussion ever came up.

And it DOES come up, about every 30-60 days or so. :goodvibes
