Is this weird???

Hey everyone

i was feeding the cat and i automatically started talking to him. Then i realised it sounded weird. My sister thinks i am weird because i talk to our cat...am i???

I love our cat and i think it makes him happy to hear us actually talking to him instead of shouting at him or completely ignoring him.

Some times i actually miow back at him and then he miows back and then it sounds like we are having a complete conversation.

It isnt just with our cat it is with some other animals aswell... like our grampys dogs and any other cats and dogs see on the street or tied to lamposts i think it makes them feel a bit less lonely!

What do you think? Am i weird? Am i crazy?

I don't think it's weird at all. Pets have been conditioned to be social, so you're just being social with them. I meow at one of our cats all the time, and she meows back. We have a pleasant conversation ... which usually ends up with me realizing that she was just asking to be let outside. Our other cat talks back and man! She has the filthiest language sometimes!

I talk to my dog all the time, mainly as he's the only one who doesnt answer me back ....and Im sure he understands me

Even my DBF has conversations with them now, a couple of years ago he hates cats and thought I was absoloutly crazy to talk to them! lol

I get more sense out of our dog than any other family member PLUS they don't argue I do tend to wink at the neighbours cat ???I am sure it winks back! - draw the line at plants thou.

We all talk to our cats they are part of the family so why not? We talk to the guinea pigs as well and they squeak back at us. It makes them feel loved i would imagine.

I think that's really sweet of you, Rhiannon. We don't have any pets, but I talk to the neighbour's cat all the time. I always say hello sweetheart to her, but she doesn't seem to listen when I say she can't come into the house because I have to go to work!

I think it would be Ab-normal NOT to talk to our cat as he talks to us, only in a different language,

I also talk to my dog as well, so if you're nuts then so am i hun!

I talk to my cats all the time! I'm lucky as we've had them since they were 5 weeks old and they recognise thier names and my voice easily. Gavin can never get them in the house just by calling and I say it's 'cos they know the only time he talks to them is when we want them inside!

We all talk to our dog, and yes she is part of the family. Sometimes I really do think she understands us. My dad always worked away and my mum always talked to my dog when she was on her own at night, they are such good company.

As you can see you are not alone, we talk to our cat Bill all the time too and he even "talks" back having lots to say in his own way, I think he finds it normal to chatter to us and any birds, dogs or other cats who call by to see him.
Some of my friends at work also talk to their cats often getting replies from them too.
We may not "speak the same language" but we can pick up a lot by their tone and body language and so can they

I have always talked to our cats. We only have one at the moment but she meows back when I ask her if she wants feeding! DH goes down the garden every night to look at the baby goldfish with his torch - their his babies!!!!
Not sure if he talks to them though. I've heard him talk to a frog as he encourages it back into the water.
