Is This Too Much?

I've always been a very nervous swimmer (due to some rather unpleasant childhood experiences and swimming teachers  ), not getting my 10 metres until I was 11. I can swim 25 metres now but get very very tired and panic in water I can't stand up in.

I've recently joined a gym with a pool and discovered that a private company offers 1:1 lessons in their pool. Perfect! The chance to improve my technique without feeling like an idiot in front of other people which was one of the reasons I used to hate swimming in the first place!

When I got in contact for prices, they told me they currently charged £20 per half hour! :earseek: I was quite shocked by this, it seems an awful lot. This has basically put the lessons way out of my price range :guilty:

What do you think? :confused3

that seems about what it costs in our area as well.....i agre it would put people of learning !!
have you asked in they do private lessons at your local leisure centre....they may be a bit cheaper :)

Whilst I agree it does seem rather steep I do think you'll find that it'll only take a few lessons for you to improve, it will build your confidence faster than public lessons and there is the safety aspect to think about too! you won't get into ANY difficulties if you're on a one to one lesson, also don't forget swimming offers you some amazing days when you're away and once you've learnt then thats it, you don't forget

Wow!! That is a lot. I think what Carol says is good maybe you will only need a few lessons to improve your confidence :)

Although £40 per hour seems a lot to you, it's a lot less than you'd pay a tradesman so I actually think it's not bad considering how much it might help you. If you can manage the money, I'd say go for it.

I don't think it is too much. You may get a lower price at a local leisure centre, but it may not be to the same standard. DD is having swimming lessons at our health club at the moment. She is in a group of four chldren and it costs £25 per lesson (1 hour duration). It has improved her water confidence by leaps and bounds.

My daughters lessons are £28.50 for 6 x half hour lessons in a 1 teacher to (up to ) 6 pupil ratio class.

She seemed to go a long while without making much progress, so we put her on a weeks intensive course a couple of weeks back, which was a half hour lesson every lunchtime, and she made a lot of progress very quickly, and got her 5 meters un-aided badge. (She's only 4 and a bit).

They just must be quite cheap up here.

I pay about the same as tron for the same number of lessons each for my dd's.
