Does anyone else feel like we are headed towards the end of the world? We have had 2 major hurricanes now. Flooding, death and suffering due to them. Now the levee has broken again and New Orleans is flooding- again. The Gulf coast is bracing for Rita when a bus load of elderly people caught fire and they all died.

Besides this we are waiting for a pandemic to strike due to the bird flu.

Besides that we have soaring gas prices which will not only impact drivers but I'm sure cause deathes this winter due to inadequate heating or improper heating- the use of stoves, candles etc.

I'm sure there is more but I am getting too upset thinking about this now. We all have colds and a stomach bug so Im not feeling the greatest right now.I'm just wondering if Im the only paranoid person really worried now. Things are just getting worse and worse in the world. But on the other hand so much good has come form Katrina. Many generous people have been helping. So maybe all that good can balance out the bad. This is my first thread on this board sorry it's a downer.

Nope, same stuff as all the other times people claimed it was the end and yet we're still here.

So are there supposed to be signs of the end times or are we not supposed to know? I wish they would make up their mind.

Definitely, but I think we will all be swallowed by the black hole before that happens

Well good morning, Sunshine :flower:

YE SHALL REPEANT OR SUFFER THOU FATE AT THE DAY OF RECKONING...or something like that.

Whatever. If it's coming to an end, there's not much I can do about it, so I'll go on with my life. :rolleyes1

Anne

I've got the handbasket gassed up and ready to go.

Uh, no. it has been 90 years since hurricanes this bad have come through the gulf, it is just "time" yet again for it to happen (at least that is what all the weather experts are saying)

Are you stalking me, Lush....I mean, person I don't know? :cool1:

Global Warming. The water in the gulf is at least 1 degree wamer than last year and that is what fuels these nasty hurricanes.

It is discouraging. I am sorry that you don't feel well, that surely doesn't help.

Per your question...there have always been disasters, fires, tornados, etc. These just happen to affecting us. It has just been heartbreaking to see the devestation lately.

Some people, and groups, benefit from the general public being "fearful" of things going on around them.

Grab a beer and relax.

Crabmeal, I think you need a *HUG*
BTW - you sound just like my mom LOL

The world has had weather for millions/billions? of years. Mankind has just chosen to fight it and once in awhile mother nature (some may say God) likes to let us know that she's the one in charge. The best we can do is just strap ourselves in and go for the ride while looking out for each other.

BTW - we're WAY overdue for a giant earthquake. Hmmm.... hoping it hold off for another thousand years or so.

I don't really think about the end..Mom and I were discussing the weather this AM though (I think I lost):

Me: So mom, you think next year Fl will still be there?
Mom: What are you talking about, porkchop?
Me: Well, the hurricanes are getting worse every year so it's only a matter of time before the ocean reclaims ya'll.
Mom: Hush your mouth. (no humor after the property damage suffered last year)
Me: {snicker} Yep, no hurricanes up here for us to worry 'bout.
Mom: {aka the devils minion on earth} I know, I will remember ya'll in my prayers this winter when ya'll get a real life "day after tomorrow" and have to walk down here in the snow. Yes ma'am, I'll remember you when I am outside sunbathing in December.
Me: Satan, reclaim your minion.

{we try to find humor is situations like this..}

::yes:: I'm sure during the Black Death people thought it was the end of the world. Same with the Spanish Flu, and many other times of epidemics and natural disasters.

And to answer about the signs of the end times, I was taught in Catholic school (also in the movies ;) ) that there are 7 signs of the apocalypse being forthcoming. We have our own personal list in my family and we're on #3 - my brother spent his own money on expensive jewelry

I'm going to assume that you felt the exact same way when the tsunami wiped out far more people...or are you counting it towards the "The end is near" argument?

I'm likewise sure you feel that way when earthquakes destroy places and people around the world. Or fires. Or bombs.

Or is it just because these hurricanes hit the US?

We could head into another ice age and it wouldn't necessarily mean that the world was ending. Weather changes. Storms happen.

When you feel uncertain, the best thing you could do is hold your family and live your life.

There really hasn't been any data or consensus on whether "Global Warming" has anything to do with the intensity of hurricanes. And there has been no consensus that these hurricanes are out of the normal hurricane cycle.

Maybe I am mistaken on my understanding on how hurricanes work, but 1 degree isn't going to amount to much at all.

Ted

Yes I felt the same way during the tsunami. Okay so I can verify that I am a paranoid chicken who hates to see or hear of disasters. I was a wreck after 9/11 esp living in NYC. Thanks for the hugs and those who made light of my feelings, shame on you.
