Is this tacky?

Wow! A WHOLE lot of harsh replies from people going to the "happiest place on earth" to me! I guess I'll get flamed myself!

However, I say do it! Heck most of us can't plan 2, 3, 10 trips to disney anytime we want to celebrate any occasion. I know! I've been lucky enough lately to go once a year but I remember when I wasn't so lucky.

A few years ago my daughter (whose birthday was 2/12) marched in the disney world parade with her high school band. That year she didn't want a birthday party so instead I told her that I would buy lunch for her, her roomates and their chaperone. I went by the resturant at the Land ( I ALWAYS forget it) a day ahead told the staff what I was doing and paid in advance for her meal. When they got their she DID get the whole birthday stuff with ( I think it was Goofy) calling and them delivering a phone to her table for Goofy to wish her a happy birthday. Was it her 'actual birthday'? No, but it was a meal for 5 that the resturant wouldn't have made money on if I hadn't have done it.

NOW. . . BEFORE YA'LL START FLAMING ME PLEASE REREAD MY STORY. . I DID tell the staff it wasn't her birthday but I was doing it for her birthday. . .

but to the original poster. . . I say go ahead celebrate! That's what Disney is all about celebration. I wonder what Walt would think about the topic. . . probably just smile and shake his head

Wear the ears! The new celebration has new pins that are really cute and say Happy Anniversary on them. Stop and get 2 and wear them! I go to the parks all the time and see people wearing Happy Anniversary pins as well as the ears. What's the harm? NONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Geeze people it's EARS and a PIN!

I'm going on the Magic on 11/11 and celebrating our 10th anniversary that will have been on 11/2. I told my TA that we are celebrating as well as ordering the room decorating. IF any more magic and pixie dust comes my way then great! Do I expect any? no. The OP doesn't either.

When we went last summer it was our 5 year anniversary trip to each other (well we had to bring the kids too).

We got married in May but I only like to go to WDW in the summer.

When we checked in they asked if it was anything special & I told them it was a belated anniversary present to each other (since it really was) & nothing different happened on our visit (the same thing when we got engaged at WDW & when the CM commented on how shiny my diamonds were I told her I just got them & that was at the Poly check in desk).

That's how I would have done it as well :). Saying it's a belated celebration or that we're celebrating a little early is fine.

The way I see it thats what Disney is for, to celebrate what and when you want. My dh and I will be celebrating our 10th at Grand Floridian with a private dinning experience. We were married in April and we couldn't get there there so we will do it then.So go for it that would make Walt happy knowing everyone is saving their special day to share at his special place.

I'm not sure where you came to that conclusion. It isn't clear either way what the OP's expectations are.

We're going to WDW to celebrate our anniversary, but it we'll be celebrating two days early (the horror!), we'll also be celebrating my brother's birthday a week late (OMG!) and my parents' anniversary a month early (for shame!!!). We must be the tackiest people alive!!!! Imagine wanting to all get together at the most wonderful place you can think of to celebrate special people and events in your life, how selfish! And to think, we aren't even doing it to get a free dessert.

Wear whatever you want and tell people whatever you want--Nobody else should care and you shouldn't care what they think either.

Personally, I wouldn't wear the ears but that's just me. I own a pair of the wedding ears but I only break those out for MNSSHP. :teeth:

I did notice over the weekend that they've come out with a lot of new pins (as someone else already mentioned). The birthday pins allow you to write your name on them now. There's also anniversary pins, newlywed pins & even a "1st trip to WDW" pin. I didn't get a chance to see any of them up close but they looked pretty nice & they are big!

That is right.

I don't think anyone here cares what they do but are simply answering the question that has been directly posed-"Is this tacky?" Obviously, there are going to be different answers. But, people aren't being harsh or wrong when they given an opinion that they think it is tacky. They are entitled to be honest when asked.

I'm am positive people think my croc's are tacky. But, I don't care, I wear them when I want and I don't ask for opinions on a message board.

I plan to wear a birthday pin, anniversary pin, and the groom ears on my next visit! I don't care what other people think, it's WDW and I want to have a good time!

/no, I'm really not going to do that

I say as long as its not illegal do whatever you want and don't worry about what anyone else thinks.

I think it is tacky to walk around with a Birthday button when it is not your birthday.

I also think it is tacky to "pretend" you are celebrating your anniversary in order to get attention.

The Birthday buttons & the Bride & Groom ears/hats call attention to the fact that you are celebrating something special on your special day. I don't think it is appropriate to pretend it is your special day in order to get attention.

Thanks for the opinions so far. I didnt think it would hurt to wear the ears. Many people don't get to go on a honeymoon right away and I am sure they still wear the ears. We already had them but never got the honeymoon to use them until now.

I don't see what the big deal is. Its ears and a pin, people...come on!! :sad2:

Honestly, noone in Disney is going to know your "real" dates. I wouldn't let peoples comments on a message board get you bent out of shape. Who cares what we think. I'm sure when my boyfriend and I go this Christmas we'll see people in the bride/groom hats, and I'll congratulate them, but how will I know if its their "real date"?? Will I interrogate them and tell them how tacky it is to go when its not the day after their wedding? NO. Some people don't have the luxury of going on a honeymoon after paying for a wedding. So what does it matter to anyone else??

Since you never got a real honeymoon 5 years ago, when people notice you with the ears on around the park and ask you "Aww are you on your honeymoon??" I would just say, yes we are!!

When we were in WDW, there was a couple standing in line behind us and the woman had on a "Today's My Birthday" pin on. I wished her a happy birthday and said how nice it must be to spend your birthday in Disney. She leaned over and whispered to me "actually, its not really my birthday. This pin is from a few years ago but I wear it every time I come because sometimes I get special treatment." I don't agree with doing that...but what can I do about it? People will do what they want, when they want and you can't prevent it.

So if you never got the chance to have a honeymoon 5 years ago and this is your celebration...then I say go for it! Wear your ears with pride! :earsboy: :earsgirl:

Oh and congratulations on the 5 year mark!!

My DH and I are going to for our 10 year annv. We are going from Dec 2nd - Dec 9th even though our annv is November 15th. We are not telling them it is our annv trip. It is not always possible to go on the exact date. I say go and have fun thats what counts.

Thank you everyone. I think we will wear them. I am not wearing them for special attention. I am wearing them to celebrate our marriage and the ears are beautiful and it is a waste to not use them. DH said he doesnt want a pin so that answers that question!

i say wear the ears, enjoy your belated honeymoon. its still a celebration of your love and a trip to commemmorate your love, who cares when the trip was. enjoy have a great time, and enjoy those ears!

one or the other. Each time I see some poor guy wearing his tophat, I always tell my wife "look there's someone who's wife doesn't love him as much as mine does". I didn't have to wear the ears too much while we were there.

OMG!! What is wrong with everyone?

umaangel00 -- you wear those ears! And wear them proudly! It's YOUR trip to Disney, and it seems that some people have forgotten that EVERY trip to Disney is a celebration. Not everyone gets to go all the time. Maybe the magic is already lost for some people. Don't let them spoil it for you.

I hope you have a wonderful time! :tinker: :tink: :smickey:

If you are wearing them for you, (to celebrate a marriage that no matter how long ago it took place, is still something worth celebrating) then by all means wear what you want. If you are offered a free dinner at California Grill, because you are the one millionth bride/groom-ear-wearing-couple to be seen at the MK, then politely decline ;) ! Seriously, other than a few well wishes, what are you going to receive that makes what you are doing tacky and diminishes other people celebrating on their actual day :confused3 ? If it makes you feel better put a little sign on them that says: "6 years late but we made it"!

In the end, I doubt the special occasion police will haul you in for your infraction. At the very least take them and put them on for a quick photo op. And above all, have fun on your trip! It took hubby and me 11 years to get our honeymoon in, so I know how it is to wait. Congratulations!

You'll never get away with it! People who are married more than 3 years radiate a unique vibe of despondancy and carry with them a look of doom, gloom and despair. No Mickey Ears can mask that pain.

:lmao: Kidding, kidding, totally (almost, lol) kidding. :teeth:

Have a wonderful trip!
