If you cancel a room only reservation that was paid in full, can you not have the money applied to a different reservation that you still owe money on?

The one time i cancelled a res because of a change, it had to go through the normal process to refund back to the card. Might not be the norm, but it happened to me.

For us it was 50%. One time we cancelled and had to wait for refund and the 2nd time the CM applied our $$ to the new reservation.

We have the money paid on a cancelled RO transferred to another RO reservation all the time. (LOL! we change dates and resorts often)

As long as both are room only reservations, it should be fine. If you want the deposit transferred to go toward a package payment, that probably would be a problem, though.

This has been our experience as well and I too bounce around quite a bit before making that final commitment :upsidedow.

I was told directly by a manager when I had issues last September (they weren't $$$ related though!) that different cast members have different access, depending on how long they've been there, their actual job title within the customer service department, and a number of other factors. So some may be able to while others can only refund, just like some may be able to see aspects of your reservation that others might not be able to, such as room requests and the like. It's just going to depend on who you get and their access within the system.

Hmmm....well now I'm actually a little angry. Backstory...back in January we booked a RO for NYE. We recently found out we are having another baby and I'm due in December so we had to cancel. My due date just cuts it too close. We have another trip (room plus dining) scheduled for September. Since the NYE trip was paid in full and I still owe money on September (I only put the deposit down because I wasn't 100% sure until yesterday that hubby would be able to go) I wanted to just apply the money to the September trip. I talked to two different CMs yesterday and they both said they can only do a refund.

Normally I wouldn't care, but the card I used to book the NYE trip was stolen and canceled by my bank a couple weeks ago. According to Disney if they can't refund the money to my card they will mail a check. We have a super shady mailman and I do not want to be dealing with a check in the mail for the cost of the NYE trip if I don't have to. Thank you for all your replies though! If we are ever in this situation again I guess I'll be more persistent. I know we have been able to apply payments for one reservation to another in the past, but the NYE trip was the first RO reservation we've ever had that we had to cancel.

I think the bigger problem is your mailman. Are you friendly with your neighbors? Have they experienced similar problems with this mailman?

The reason you have to have a refund is the NYE trip was a Room Only and the September trip is a package. Those are on 2 different systems and the is no way for them to transfer the $$ from the Room Only to the package. It's always been that way. Now if you were cancelling a Room Only and wanted to move the $$ you already paid to another Room Only, that would not be a problem.

Yes, we have all had issues with this mailman going on for the last three years. We have all filed complaints, one neighbor even has video evidence of him opening envelopes and pocketing things. If it's anything but junk mail there's a 50/50 chance it will be delivered without being tampered with. We considered getting a P.O. box, but it's so rare we get anything besides junk mail we decided the cost just wasn't worth it. Packages get delivered by a different truck and we told all friends and family not to mail cards or anything of value. I'm actually on hold for Disney now waiting to see if they can change our address to have the check mailed somewhere else.

I used to work at the Disney Reservations Center in Orlando. It is true that different Cast Members have different access based on which training classes they've completed. That said, dansdad is correct in stating that money from a Room Only reservation can never get transferred to a Package reservation.

Not only are there system issues, but also there are two different companies involved (both wholly owned subsidiaries of The Walt Disney Company). As packages can include airfare, they must be booked through the Walt Disney Travel Company. Due to Florida State law, any company selling airfare must have be licensed as a travel agency.
