Is this realistic?

Isn't it funny how you get grumpy now because you haven't been able to workout? Same thing happens to me now. I claim I dread the idea of going out for a run but when I miss my runs I get upset. I have only exercised twice this whole week. Hoping to make tomorrow the 3rd. Having trouble getting a new schedule going now that the kids are all home. During the school year things run like clockwork.

As far as the question about the electrolytes. Based on everything I have heard/read, you only need to worry about them if you are weating A LOT or if you are doing really intense activity for 45+ minutes. So, if the things you are looking at have added calories I would say you could hold off for now because on run/walking. But, you know your body better. If you are done with your workouts and you are drenched you could make a judgement call. My long run on Sunday was 7.5 miles. I was pretty drenched as it took me over an hour. I didn't do anything different. I just drank some water and had my normal snack. Haven't had any issues yet. Someone else might have a different opinion.

Sounds good. I sweat more at Zumba than I do with the run/walk at this point. :rolleyes1 I try to force myself to eat 1/2 a banana or something before I go out, but I really don't like to eat before a run. Idk if that is the best thing for me, but I don't do breakfast in the morning and usually not until after 10 am. That's why I've been drinking the protein powder. :confused3

Today my son and I made the Mickey tie dye shirts. I hope they come out! We will all have green Mickey heads as a nod to the DIS. :goodvibes

Looking forward to my 4 mile run/walk tomorrow. I hope to get it done fairly early in the morning. I still have some congestion and a scratchy throat but nothing that should truly keep me from getting out there. :)

Mickey tie dyes from today:

And I experimented with using freezer paper stencils today. So this was my practice run. :)

Can't wait to make the real thing!

I did my 4 miles this morning. I thought I had left early enough to avoid the heat, but nope. I ran a little for the first 1/2 mile or so and then just walked the rest. I am glad that I did because I don't think that I could have finished the entire thing if I hadn't. I'm not quitting, but I don't think I will be running enough by October. So I think that for now my short "runs" will be walk/run to build endurance but the longer ones I will only run a little in the beginning and then just focus on maintaining my speed for the rest of it. I like that Run Keeper will tell you how many mph you are going. I just kind of picked a number today and my goal was to stay above or at that speed. It helped me move quicker when it started to drop.

I am going to be out of town next weekend and will miss Zumba on Friday so I am trying to figure out how to fit a different day into my schedule. I will be sad if I miss it entirely!

First of all, cool shirts.

Second, I had a bad run today too. It happens. I felt like I was running through quicksand. My legs were so heavy and they were hurting before I even hit a mile. I was supposed to do at least 8 miles today according to my schedule to be ready for my October marathon and I did 4.73. So, I have been a bit bummed all day.

On a side note, today was my monthly weight check and I lost 5 lbs. So, that's kinda good. I said kinda because I am not sure how much I trust it as the scale sales I GAINED in body fat %. How do you lose 5 lbs and increase BF%? I checked it twice and it stayed the same.

As far as not running enough by October. Who said you had to run? If I remember correctly your goal was to just be able to finish. Besides, as you keep this up and lose more weight you will be surprised how much you'll be able to run. And, if you keep doing what your doing with RunKeeper you'll see major changes. I set my pace on RunKeeper and if I am below it I push harder. It's a great motivational tool.

That stinks about the weight loss. Probably just a weird fluctuation that will sort itself out in the next week or two. I hear that those kinds of scales are not very accurate on rating body fat due to the natural fluctuations in water that the body is (or isn't) retaining. That stinks about the run too. :(

It isn't that I have to run in October, but more that I really really wanted to. Not run the entire thing, but be able to actually maintain the run/walk intervals throughout. Oh well. I was so tired yesterday after that that I actually took a nap. And I very rarely nap anymore. I think that a lot of it was being dehydrated after the fact. I was sweating buckets and I just don't think that I drank enough before, during or after my workout. The 4 miles was my hardest workout to date and I guess it kind of surprised me. I blame part of it on not getting in my 2 30 minutes run/walk workouts during the week. I kind of substituted Zumba for one of them (and I knew I shouldn't because it is obviously not the same) and the other I have been very laid back about. It is time to recommit and do all 3 run/walks and add in Zumba.

On the plus side, I woke up this morning and felt great! Kind of like a delayed runner's high. In January it literally took me 30 minutes to walk 1/2 a mile on the treadmill. I did 4 miles in 73 minutes yesterday. Yeah, it was tough, but I did it. Still isn't fast enough to keep me ahead of the sweepers, but I have 3 months to work on that. I have come a long way since the beginning of the year and I feel so much better. THAT is what I am focusing on right now. :goodvibes

Well I dragged myself out of bed this morning and onto the treadmill. I didn't want to so by the time I talked myself into moving I had lost some of my time. So I did not get the 30 minutes in but the plus side is that normally I would have said eh, guess I will just skip it. Instead I got in what I could. Today that are calling for heat indexes over 100. For NY that is HOT! :scared: I was thinking about trying to make it to zumba if I got out of work early enough but I know that the room is not air conditioned and I'm not sure if it would be a good idea.

This morning was weigh in day and I am down 1.4 lbs for the week and 9 lbs total. :cool1: Baby steps but I am getting there.

I ran today and it was hot here too so I know what you mean. When I ran it was 88' at 4pm. Not FL humidity, thankfully, but I ran in the sun so it felt hotter. Thankfully there was a breeze.

Awesome news on the weight loss. I'm jealous (but happy for you at the same time) I wish I was losing that quickly.

That's nice of you to say but lately my workouts have been so bad I feel like I am going backwards in my progress.

On the positive side though, I went to my friend's house today. I haven't seen him in a while and when I got there she asked me where the other 1/2 of me went. Now, she's a bit obnoxious normally, but it is nice to know that it is finally noticeable to people. And while it feels good to hear compliments it also makes me realize how huge I must have been. :confused3

It is always a good feeling when someone notices all your hard work. :thumbsup2 As long as you keep trying you will be moving forward! :goodvibes

Ugh. I had this long post written and POOF! It's gone. :headache:

Anyway. This morning was another day I just did not want to get out there and move. It took me an hour to get moving, but I finally did. I was hungry so I decided to play with some of the stuff I got in my June Stride Box. The first thing I tried was this:

If you like peanut butter you will like it. Thankfully I do. It was pretty dense though and although I ate the whole thing, I probably could have eaten just half of it. I needed some water to get the last little bit down. I ate it right before I went out and it didn't seem to bother my stomach at all. :)

Then I tried this:

Eh, I can't get the photo to load to Photo Bucket. It is a small packet of Water Sensations. Liquid water infuser. I'm afraid if I keep waiting for it to load I will lose the whole post again.

It is an electrolyte packet with B vitamins and caffeine. The caffeine sounded promising since I hadn't had any coffee yet. It is citrus flavored and isn't bad but the sweetness caught me by surprise. It has stevia in it and I wasn't expecting it to be so sweet. Overall it is not something that I would want to try again.

Lately in NY it has been seriously humid and hot. So I think that I will be set for the TOT race as far as that goes. I haven't been avoiding the heat and I am hoping that will help me out.

Today between my 3 minute warm up, 30 minute run/walk and 3 minute cool down I went 2 miles. :cool1: That is a huge deal for a person that could only go 0.5 miles in 30 minutes in the beginning. I am really proud of what I have accomplished. Now I just need to have patience that the rest will come. lol

This week I have gotten more workouts in than usual.
Tuesday: 20 minutes on the treadmill (overslept) :headache:
Wednesday: 30 Minute Shred
Thursday: 30 minute run/walk outside
Friday: I will be going to Zumba after all
Saturday: rest day
Sunday: 2 mile run/walk per Galloway TOT plan

Workouts on 5 out of 7 days is better than I have ever done. :goodvibes So I guess for not being motivated, I seem to be doing ok.

You have a lot to be proud of. Its a great feeling so I hope you keep it up. Certainly beats beating yourself up for not working out and exercising, like I know I used to do all the time.

Tomorrow is exactly 3 months away. Are you as excited as me? Did you watch the videos on YouTube they mentioned on the ToT thread? I saw you were on there recently but don't know if you noticed that post? I watched them. Its cool to see what the race will be like.

The power bar in the picture. Did you read the ingredients? Is it all natural or is it full of hydrgenated oils and stuff?

It is all natural. According to the wrapper it is gluten free and dairy free and vegan. :confused3 The main protein source is soy with peanut flour. I didn't even know that there was such a thing!

I'm enjoying my rest day today. I think my body has needed it. I've been more tired than normal. Tomorrow is my 2 mile walk/run. Then I am going to a cake decorating class that I signed up for. lol A little counterproductive I guess but it should be fun. :goodvibes

Today was my 2 mile run. And I did actually run part of it. I have this fear of people watching me run which has held me back from doing any running outside. Silly I know, but there is a lot more traffic on that back road than I thought! :rotfl: Anyway. Today I convinced myself that I need to just suck it up and do it because I really really don't want to walk the whole 10 miles of TOT. So I ran for a few seconds (30 strides) every other minute. I figure I can build that up on my maintenance runs until I am running more consistently. On the long weekend runs I think I am just going to continue to walk at a steady pace for now. But anything 3 miles or less I will run/walk. My calves did cramp up a little and I was surprised at how much my walk pace suffered, but I pushed a little harder and was able to bring that back up some. So 2 miles in 35 minutes which is a little faster than it was last time. ::yes:: I'm guessing I have about 36 more training sessions before the race in October so if I can just keep gaining a little each week, I should be good to go! :thumbsup2

My calves get tight too, don't worry too much about it. The more you run the more your legs will get used to it and they will eventually hurt less. But, I also find on days I push myself harder they hurt even more. But the next day they are fine.

I have been feeling crappy the last 2 days. Head cold, sore throat, achy, etc... Today was my long run day. I had a choice of not running or just going out and trying to get in a run, even if wasn't a long run. So, I ran. I only did 4.5 miles. I know it sounds like a lot but in order to be ready for my October marathon I should have been up to 9 miles by today. :sad2: And Friday we are leaving for VA Beach for a week for my daughter's national dance competition. I'm bringing my running stuff but I highly doubt I will get to run, which means I am going to be way behind schedule.

So frustrating.

Be careful pushing yourself too hard. Your body needs time to heal itself and if you don't give it the chance you will just be sick longer. :( You will still have time to reach your goals.

I am running into some scheduling problems too. This coming weekend is a 5 mile run and I prefer to do them on Sundays. But Saturday is our annual summer BBQ which generally includes a lot of drinking. :scared: So I am going to run on Saturday morning before the party because I am not sure I would actually do it on Sunday if I don't. Then in 2 weeks I am going camping which will span 2 weekends. I have to figure out how to get my workouts in. There is very limited cell service up there and I'm not sure if I will be able to get RunKeeper to work or not. :confused3 Plus it is crazy hilly which will kill me. But I will try.

I would say enjoy your vacation and try to get the runs in, but don't beat yourself up over it. Do what you can. :goodvibes

Believe me, I am not pushing myself at all. I have been slacking big time. Since school ended and the kids are all home it is more and more difficult to get consistent workouts in. I was going to run today but last night I was woken in the middle of the night with blinding pain in my calf. Usually when I first start exercising I get a cramp in my calf in the middle of my sleep. I am now 7 months in so I thought I was safe. NOPE. So, there is such a knot in my calve it feels like a golf ball in there. No running today. I am hoping I can run tomorrow.

But, I was sick for my 10K as well and I put up the best time I have ever run. Same thing yesterday. The last 1/2 mile of my run yesterday is up a huge hill so that slowed down my time but if not for that it might have been my fastest run.

Today was weigh in day. No loss, no gain. I can't say that I was really surprised. I did work out more than normal last week, plus I ate things that I had not been eating previously. :rolleyes1 I was hoping to hit 10 lbs down, but maybe that will be next week. ;) I had way too much junk food and need to get back to my daily salads. I was so busy over the weekend that I had my protein shake in the morning and then pretty much skipped over lunch. I wasn't hungry so I just waited until dinner. Oh well. I didn't get out there this morning so I need to get my butt out and run tonight after work. Since I am doing 2 miles in 35 minutes I am going to go 2 miles for each 30 minute run. I figure eventually I will get down to 2 miles in 30 minutes and then I can work on going further during that time. :goodvibes At least that is the idea.

I have been slacking on my diet as well. I'm still eating well but I have a cookie or a chip here and there. I know it won't kill me but I have set a new goal of losing another 15 lbs by the race so I really shouldn't be cheating at all. My workouts have been inconsistent. But, vacation is next week so I figure I will do my best until that's over and then I will tighten things back up.

As far as your improvement. As long as you set a goal to improve a little every week you will be fine. You can't go workout to workout because some workouts just aren't that good. So, set a bigger goal for each week and try to achieve it.

I do a P90X workout today because my calf is still hurting today and I couldn't do nothing again. Hoping to get in a run tomorrow though.

Having an occasional treat is not a bad thing. I know for me, if I don't have any then eventually I am going to sit down and eat a whole box or bag of junk. So instead I have something every day that I want. Lately it has been mini m&ms. I measure out the serving size and that's it. No guilt. But since I have a lot of weight to lose it probably is not as crucial to me yet. :confused3

I hope your calf is feeling better! I have a dull pain in my knees, just above them. They are sore when I work out, but it almost all goes away by the next day. Soooo... I am not letting it stop me from doing my workouts, but I am keeping track of it because I don't want it to get worse.

Last night I went to Zumba. I have to say, by far, this is definitely my favorite workout. I don't have to struggle to motivate myself to go. :) With running I struggle to get out the door every. single. time. :rolleyes2 Once I get out there I am good. And as silly as it sounds, I don't struggle getting out there on the long runs on Sunday, but I do struggle to do the 2 - 30 minute sessions. I'm not sure if it is just because that's in the morning before work or what. Idk. I am a work in progress.
