Hi! I've been following your thread and just wanted to say I started training for a 10-mile in Philly on March 1--just about two months before the race. I haven't run since high school--which is 20 years ago at this point. Anyway, I worked my way through the 5K Runner app and 10K Runner app rather quickly, but I've done every workout.
I was about 20-25 lbs over the weight I wanted to be at, but I've lost 11 lbs already and feel really strong going into the race. So, I'm sure once you are out of the boot, you can do it! I will say I really bunched up my running/walking in the beginning, which was good because now I'm at the run 50 minutes part, and I'm having to go to every other day now. Good luck!
Thanks! I guess I am just concerned that they are going to tell me to take it easy and I won't be able to ramp up. I just hope that I do not lose all the conditioning I did and don't have to start back at the beginning.
Training plans are only just starting for the DL half marathon weekend in August, I think you'll be fineEven if you have to repeat the 5k program, you'll probably get through it a bit quicker now that you have a bit of a base. Plus, you want to make sure you don't peak too early either!
I was looking at Galloway's program for TOT and it didn't start until June, but it started with something like 1.78 miles. There is no way I could have started there. I had to start early to build up to that. But you are right, I probably won't have to start back at the beginning of the 5k program. I'm just restless because it has been a month since I have done anything.
The original training plan I was going to use for the ToT is for a 1/2 marathon (My APP doesn't have a plan for 10 miles so I went for the 1/2 figuring the better shape I was in the better chance I'd have to finish.) Anyway, it starts on 5/4 and ends in August and that is for 13.1 miles. Some other things to consider. You have more time than that. You have done some work already. You have a shorter distance to run. And, I'm not sure if you watch the Biggest Loser but the people who make it to the end run a FULL MARATHON and that is within 3-4 months of starting the show. Now, they have trainers, and doctors, etc... But, I bring it up because it is possible.
I have no doubt that if you don't have a major injury that keeps you out of the race that you will be able to finish it. The positive attitude you had since the beginning of the thread will pull you through. It is what caused me to respond to the thread.
If you find out you can't run for a while strongly consider the bike idea I mentioned (assuming the doctor says that OK). It will build your endurance and strengthen the legs until you are able to start running again.
Let us know how the MRI goes.
I haven't watched Biggest Loser in years. Too close to home I guess. The type A in me is rearing it's head. I had a plan which is on hold. I can't make a new plan because I don't know when I will be able to start running or even walking again. If they tell me I can't run I will definitely look into the biking thing and I will be walking as much as I can. I will let you know what they tell me.

No word on my MRI today so definitely no dirty girl this weekend. Then I was told that it could take 5-7 days to get! And that they would call me. I will wait until Tuesday. Then I'm calling again!
They let us think we are in control and then suddenly you get the, ha, just kidding and things aren't what we expect. Oh well I am trying to roll with it. This morning I slipped *just a little* in the shower and my foot burned. So even though it does not hurt anymore, there is obviously something wrong still. That bums me out but I can't control it. I have been good wearing the boot all the time except to bed. I know I am supposed to but I can't bring myself to because it is dirty. Silly? Probably.
I even have a weight machine in my basement. It is something about the feeling after running that draws me to it. I don't get that with other exercises.
I have to start back at square one because this makes us a group of 5.
Plus I already have plane tickets for the 4 of us. My head hurts just thinking about it!
