Is This Presumptuous?

We've been house hunting for our first house for WEEKS and we finally found "Our Place".

Our offer was accepted, we had a great home inspection, and we are now just waiting for the appraisal and for the bank to approve our mortgage (we were pre-approved beforehand).

We were told by our mortgage company that our closing date would be around October 18th.

I have some closets here in our apartment that are in MUCH need of some going through and cleaning out and throwing away. I'd like to get to this chore BEFORE we actually start packing to move.

But that is, IF we move...

Is it a little bit presumptuous or "bad kharma" to start this process even though we haven't "officially" been approved, told of an official closing date, etc.?



We are just SO excited!!!

Anything you do now is something you won't have to do later. The closets need to be cleaned and sorted anyway, right?

If I've decided I'm moving within 6 months, I start packing and sorting any items that aren't needed on a daily basis right away.

This is exactly what I would do too. I'd be in purge mode the minute I knew a move was in the works. Heck, I'm in purge mode NOW because we MIGHT move in a year and a half!

OH, go ahead and start. Your offer was accepted and you are rolling forward. Such an exciting time for you! Congratulations in advance of your anticipated closing! WooHoo!!

Congratulations on finding your house! I would start cleaning out as soon as possible. I am a wicked procrastinator and it seems like I have moved the same junk 10 times because I just wouldn't get around to sorting things out and would just end up packing it up!

The closets need to be cleaned out regardless of when you move.

Goodness, GO FOR IT!!

I'm in a purge mode myself. I manage to accumulate a lot of stuff that "I might need someday" plus the kids outgrown clothes, etc. I am telling myself that due to the economy, there are more people than ever "out there" who might need this stuff NOW, so I am purging like a mad woman. We aren't moving...hopefully ever. DH said the only way he's leaving here is in a pine box so I don't think cleaning out closets is overly presumptious for your mortgage approval.

I will tell you what happened to me, though. Just the opposite! Of course, it was 12 years ago and the market was a different place, but when we bought this house I thought I would have at least a month before our old house sold, and I was going to pack neatly, orderly, and label everything. Well, our house sold in EIGHT DAYS, and I ended up just throwing things into boxes and scribbling something like "DH's stuff" on the outside.

As NMAmy said, anything you can do now is something you won't have to do later!

The only thing is, if we weren't probably moving next month, I probably wouldn't care about the messy closets!

Oh my gosh, no. We went back around rush hour... MADNESS!

This place is PERFECT!!! It SCREAMED "ours" the second we walked in. It is so weird how that happens!
