I'm looking to book a GV at OKW next July. My home resort is BCV. I have a friend whose home resort is OKW. Would it be possible for me to transfer points to her to make the reservation. Would it then be in her name? I will need to borrow some of my 2006 points to do this, is that doable??? Thanks again oh knowledgeable ones!!

I am not one of the "oh knowledgeable ones!!" but I think you can actually trade points. You would be able to transfer points from BCV into her account and she could transfer OKW points into your account. We made reservations with another DVC couple for a two bedroom using combined points and I think they transferred points into our account so we could make the entire reservation.

Is that correct oh knowledgeable ones???

You could transfer your points to your friend but they are supposed to retain their home resort identity of the BCV, so your friend couldn't use them for the OKW reservation. He/she could only use their OKW points at the 11 month mark. You can only transfer current year points. You can't transfer either banked or borrowed ones. If you transfer points to someone else, the reservation would be in their name.

Or your friend could make the reservations for you with his/her points and you could either transfer your's to him/her or you could make a reservation for him/her with your's.

You both can't transfer to each other. You can only transfer in OR out in a year. So one of you would have to be the receiver of the points.

I think this covers everything but I get the feeling I missed something.

Good luck. Hope it was "knowledgeable" enough.;)

OK, thanks, I think that answers it. So unless she wants to stay or use my BCV points, it won't be doable. I thought that if I transferred my points to her account, they would (magically, isn't that the Disney way!!) become usable at OKW, seemed like a good idea! Thanks though, it's good to have these questions answered.

She won't be able to use the points @ OKW until the normal 7 month window. At that time, all points become equivalent and can be used anywhere.

If she has enough points to cover her vacation and yours, she can reserve OKW at 11 months ahead, no problem. Or if she wants to reserve at your resort up to 11 months ahead, no problem.

The problem is that since you can only move points in or out, she would need to make your reservation for you- you can't "swap" directly. And you will not be able to receive any transfers for the rest of your use-year.

If you are making ressies 11 months out, you must be pretty sure of the dates, so having her make your res in exchange for your points seems like an even deal (except OKW points are probably considered less valuable, since there is more likely to be availability at 7 months or less.)

Hope this clears it up a bit more-

Susan
