Our next trip we're planning to start at WDW and stay at a Value Resort (because literally all we'll do is sleep there while we spend our days in the parks), then go to Universal Studios for two days with a stay overnight, and then back to WDW for a night at a Deluxe Resort so we can relax in style before we go home.

First question - is it insane to stay at 3 different hotels in just over a week?

Second question - since we'll be staying only one night at Universal we'll just need an overnight bag. Can WDW store our luggage or will we have to lug everything back and forth?

Just know that changing takes time. I think it sounds fun. I don't know if WDW will store your luggage, but I bet they will.

Too much changing but that's just me. I like to get "settled in" I'd just take a service for a one day outside visit elsewhere.
As far as luggage. I'm thinking guest services would know about that. If nothing valuable I guess I'd be comfy ...leaving it locked up in one of those cages they have??
Enjoy ur trip.

We did something similar to this a couple of weeks ago when we were there. Our stay was supposed to be 3 nights at Cabana Bay and then a week at Saratoga Springs in a 1 bdrm villa. We generally split our stay between villas at WDW or Portofino and WDW but we decided to try Cabana as something different. Well...

We checked into Cabana Bay around 4:30 pm on 11/10 but our special needs kiddo was losing it from the moment we stepped out of the rental SUV. She didn't like the hotel. It didn't look or feel right and she 100% could not handle staying there. So we tried to switch to a different Universal hotel but they had nothing available.

I called WDW and they put us in a studio at Boardwalk for 11/10, Grand Floridian for 11/11 and then they had enough availability to move us into a 1 bdrm at SS a day early. Resort staff were wonderful when we checked into Boardwalk and GF. They helped us arrange for storage and transfer between each hotel change. Apparently they store luggage for cruise guests splitting their stays so it's no big deal.

Re: 4 hotels in 3 days. It wasn't ideal but made the best of it, kept a sense of humor and had a great time.

What time of year are you going to be visiting.... it does make a difference on line times, so you might not really need it the option.

For what you would pay at Universal for one night you could add the front of the line option to your tickets I think it starts around 60.00 bucks or so... You could Uber back and forth between the parks. I personally would not want to spend my vacation lugging back and forth losing precious vacation time.

Another thought... With the money for the Universal night and the deluxe night... you could check out what it would be to move up to moderate resort maybe CBR, which seems to have a bit of a lower rate at times, or maybe look at a family suite at AoA. This way you have set up a home base and not all that packing and unpacking just to pack and unpack again.

As far as the luggage, I don't think its a option... Some friends came and did 2 nights (at POP) before their Disney cruise which was a 4 night cruise then 4 more nights ( CBR) back at WDW... They only wanted to take on basically a roll on and a back pack each on the cruise, guest services said that they could not store for that length of time.... Stating there is only so much room and its for guest checking in and checking out, or moving resorts within WDW the day of... Not a storage unit..... But again nothing is ever written in stone at WDW... so I would just ask... and be prepared to take it all if you decide to go with your original plan...
Have a Magical Vacation

Oh gracious. The op is almost certainly staying at one of the deluxe resorts at uni, which are way better than any Disney moderate.

And staying at PBH, HRH, or RPR gives them two mornings of early entrance to Wizarding world and two days of *unlimited* express pass.

You don't want to waste vacation time, but you suggest staying at WDW and commuting up to Uni twice. While missing out on the awesome perks of staying onsite at uni!

Op, split stays are in the eye of the beholder. Either you don't mind them or you do. When doing it with purpose, they are easier IMO.

I do want to mention that you'll despise fast pass after unlimited express pass. I know it's hard to give up DME and go on faith that you'll like uni, but I would urge you to consider playing at WDW then play and relax at the uni deluxe before going home.

Personally, I wouldn't do it. I've done two-resort splits within a week, but 3 is a lot, particularly if you want 1 night in Universal and then 1 night back at WDW. Remember, check-in times are quite late in the day, so you may be without a room on those one-nighters until late afternoon. This may not matter on your Uni day if you are hitting the parks, but when you get to your WDW deluxe for one night, you may not get your room until late afternoon.

IMHO, the Universal hotels are much nicer than the WDW ones. Why not just spend 2 nights at Uni and ditch the last night at WDW?

We did a split stay with two Disney hotels in 9 nights. That was fine, I don't think I would have wanted to split it 3 ways. Are you saying 5 nights WDW value, 1 night Uni Deluxe, 1 night WDW Deluxe?
I would just do 5 nights WDW, 2 nights Uni Deluxe.

We are doing Art of Animation for one night on December 3rd, then check in at the Contemporary the 4th through the 9th, then check into the Wilderness lodge the 9th through the 12th and then the 12th to the 13th at Port Orleans Riverside. I think we wanted to check out as many of the resorts as we could since we will not be back to WDW after this trip in quite some time. We are adventurous so I will try to report back to how everything went. Truly, I would prefer to make the last POR stay into an added night at WL, though. I hope all goes well with your stay and planning! God bless :)

we did a split stay over Christmas last year into the new year and this included a two night stay at universal in the middle of our WDW hotels (my heart is firmly with WDW but we thoroughly enjoyed the break at universal) we never found changing hotels to be a bother and just took what we needed in two bags to universal, we travelled with two young kids as well!! We were able to store all our suitcases at our first WDW hotel which was the GF (about 4 large cases) then when we checked into SSR after universal they delivered them to us, hope this helps and I'm sure you'll have an amazing time x

no but I would stay longer at a resort. Moving takes time

I would either stay an extra night at universal or an extra day at WDW... But not go back to WDW for 1 night

Lovestimone here..

Oh gracious. The op is almost certainly staying at one of the deluxe resorts at uni, which are way better than any Disney moderate. Agreed on the Universal hotel quality but it just that a hotel...... The suggestion was to go moderate for the whole trip.

You don't want to waste vacation time, but you suggest staying at WDW and commuting up to Uni twice. While missing out on the awesome perks of staying onsite at uni! - The commuting back and forth is a lot less of wasted vacation time..... then, packing up the room early am or the night before - hoping that they will have enough room for your luggage so you don't have to lug all of it to Universal for 1 night....then uber/taxi to Universal check in is at 3:00... so hopping your room is ready at Universal, if not you will store your luggage, hit the parks but they will not be able to use the early AM entrance into the Park not unless they are checked in at the crack of dawn...If not in room you will need more than likely to go back to the resort and get into your room, con't on exploring Universal... Spend the night, Wake up the early again the next day... pack up again check out by 11:00, store your luggage... spend the day at Universal... then pick up your luggage, uber/taxi back to WDW to stay 1 night deluxe before heading home the next day... So for my family we would much prefer just the car ride back and forth.... Also not sure if they are planning to go into the parks one last time at WDW when returning.

OP..Now that I said all that, I honestly would just go with one full day at Universal and go the express pass route adding to your tickets... moving will cut into your time even more once I see it in writing...

Also Some friend were just here and stayed the whole time at WDW, and commuted back and forth the original plan was close to what yours is now except they were going to do 2 nights at Universal... She said that she was glad that they did not stay at Universal because once her kids did Harry Potter and Train, rode a couple of other rides/coasters they were ready to go back to see Mickey/ and the parade and fireworks... Her kids (4) are from kindergarten to 7th grade... So you might want to take this possibility into consideration... In the end she only bought a 1 day 2 park pass and added on the express pass... Her DH was lets just go this route, if we need we can add another day to Universal... which they did not do...

The great thing about this board... So many great suggestions, lots of free advice, a multitude of opinions, and you can use it, part of it, or none... Remember its your vacation, and your family and you know them best... Again Have a Magical Time pixiedust:pixiedust:pixiedust:pixiedust:

We just returned from a short stay at Universal before a cruise and stayed at Royal Pacific. They include the Express Pass in their rates, and you can get an express pass on both check in day and check out day, so you might consider that.

We are doing a Disney and Universal split stay (3 nights each) in February with son, daughter in law and granddaughter and decided to change our reservation from Cabana Bay and upgrade to Royal Pacific. For the extra $100 per night to get the express passes included we feel is worth it. Plus the resort is close to the parks, a short and very pleasant boat ride.

What exactly are you expecting by "staying ins style"? Not going to the parks? Lounging at the pool? Nearby good restaurant?
