is this, or something like this, a scam?

This has happened a few times in my 10 years at my home... Someone rings the doorbell, and it is a young person, who claims to be a foreign exchange student, who says that he or she needs to greet 50,000 people? And then they start to ask what you do for a living....

I never get beyond that point as I tell them I am not interested, so I have no idea what happens after the point where they ask what I do for a living.

She tried - the girl today - to show me some kind of "badge" that had "YCA" on it.

I tried to google it, but came up empty.

Are these part of a scam?

They are usually trying to sell something. I met a boy (young man) from Finland a few years ago canvasing our neighborhood. He did he sales pitch and I said no, but good luck. It was really hot outside, so I gave him a bottle of water to take and an ice cream sandwich:lmao:. We stood on the porch and talked a few minutes about the "program" he was working for. He really regretted doing it, but had to finish it out to get his ticket back home. He was very pleasant, and a smart kid. I felt bad for him.
