Is this ok, or should i not?

I guess you need to realize that 99% of people (or more) who are visiting WDW on any given day, are NOT able to go on their "actual" birthdays/ anniversaries either. I have only been to WDW once ever and this will be my kids first trip. That still doesn't give us the right though to tell people to treat us special because we're celebrating our birthday's. On your point, what's stopping anyone who goes from claiming it's THEIR birthday? So do you think anyone and everyone should be able to celebrate their birthday there, just because they haven't before? (really this sounds like I'm mad-I'm not, just trying to make sense of this :rolleyes1 ) Yes, MOST people can not go to WDW on their ACTUAL birthdays, obviously. (we are taking our DS out of school so he can be-which won't happen again ever I'm sure) But for those who do, is this not taking something away from them? Like the other poster said, seems like EVERYONE is getting pins, and cupcakes, and sung to. I know, I'm like lessly to say "Happy Birthday" to everyone I pass wearing pins, or getting a cupcake at the restaurants, because after reading these boards and realizing how many people do it, it has spoiled it for me. I won't know whose birthday is actually is VS who just wants the free perks and attention. Like I said, if everyone felt the way you do, EVERYONE would be "celebrating" their birthdays, and where's the magic in that? :sad2:

What if I just ask for the pin but not wear it? do you think it is still the same? we were just going to get the pin, not wear it and then have our own little party in our hotel room. Is that so bad? this is not in a sarcastic tone btw

Um....nope. I don't think anyone would have a problem with that. :rolleyes1

Oh, and the pins are actually buttons. They're big and round. (and say "It's my birthday!") :)

Do what you want to and don't let anyone discourage you of that. I hope you have a magical vacation!

It does seem a little dishonest to go around wearing an "It's my Birthday" button and receiving any associated perks or attention that goes along with it when it is not your birthday. Just my .02.

Agree.

We missed my daughters bday last time and were there a little later.

You could "cheat" and say it is so, but it kind of takes away from the meaning.

YMMV

When I made the reservations for my last trip August 7 - 14 of this past year, I told the CM taking the reservations that my actual date of birth was Aug 23, however I would be back teaching then. (by the way, that makes it impossible for me to be in WDW on my actual date of birth until after I retire)
I said this just chatting with the CM while she was waiting on her computer. When I got my paperwork it said, "Celebrating my birthday" on the paperwork. I did not ask for that. However, when I checked in at the POP, the CM gave me a Birthday Button, asked me when my birthday was. I again said August 23. She said, are you celebrating here. I said yes, she said wear the button all week! When I returned from the parks on my second day, I had a card and balloons in my window.

My BDay in toward the end of September so I can't take my kids out of school to go to Disney when school just started, My youngest is six, so it would be ages before I ever have a chance to go to Disney in September. I have no disire to try to celebrate in another month. It just wouldn't have any meaning to me. I'm a gown person with one special day. Personally I would feel silly celebrating when it's not my birthday, but that's just me.

I feel it's different for kids IMO. I think the 13 year old girl should be able to celebrate when in Disney. Some how kids Bdays seem to stretch out.

It is a round, blue, birthday button. They are the same at all parks, you will see young and old alike wearing them. Do what feels right for you. For our first WDW trip, which was September of this year, we arrived 15 days after hubby's birthday and left 6 days before my birthday but neither of us got the button as it was not our birthday actually, even though it was a celebration family trip for all three of our birthdays (son was a month and a half later). As far as the perks, I cannot imagine it will get you "to the front of the line"... you pass people everywhere wearing these buttons, they could not do it for everyone, there is no way. Maybe a cute little one slips by every now and then on the kiddie rides but I cannot imagine it happens often nor on the big rides/attractions. I could be wrong though! I have heard of people getting stickers or cupcakes though! Have a fun trip! :goodvibes

Celebrate your special day whenever you want. What family is able to schedule birthday celebrations on the actual birthday every time? Is it wrong if it is one day away...two days away....two weeks away? If the family has planned to take the kids to Disney instead of a birthday celebration at home, why not just let them celebrate. It really doesn't affect everyone else if someone gets a free cupcake or smiles and "Happy Birthday" greetings.

Maybe you can call it your "un-Birthday". Have a great time and Happy Birthday!!!:)

We visited WDW and went on Disney Wonder to celebrate DD 8th birthday and our 15th wedding anniversary. DD turned 8 on the cruise, but our anniversary wasn't until 9 days later. We were given b-day and anniversary buttons at check in which we all wore throughout our visit. We were greeted warmly by most CM's, who were thrilled that we had chosen to celebrate our special occasions with Disney. Do I feel "dishonest" because our anniversary wasn't on the actual days we were at Disney - Absolutely not! We were CELEBRATING our birthday/anniversary - who cares that we were a few days off?

my birthday is the 2nd week in february. do i ever get off to go on a fantastic vacation for my birthday? um, no. if i want to celebrate my birthday trip a month ahead of time then why can't i? how is it so incredibly fair that some people get the shaft for their birthday and have it in the dead of winter when traveling is a pain (especially up north). i have never once been to disney (or anywhere for that matter) any time near or on my birthday.

we went last year to disney during mlk weekend. i didn't celebrate my birthday (which was not even 3 weeks later), because i didn't feel like it. my mom went during her birthday (which coincided with president's day weekend) and she wore the pin the entire time she was there. did she get any perks for wearing the pin? absolutely not (i don't even think she got so much as a happy birthday from anyone).

give the poor girl a break. she's only 13 (not 30) and this is her birthday vacation. how do you people even know she's going to get any perks? i'll bet you that most of the time they don't do it, just when some cast members are feeling generous. i say wear the pin if you want to, just don't expect any perks.

I cant go on my actual bday this year...I am checking out 3 days before. DH has ordered a cake for me for one of our dinners.

Should I stand up in the restaurant and inform everyone that it is actually NOT my birthday, that mine is actually Dec 4? I wouldn't want my deception of eating cake 4 days early to cause havoc in Disney for others.

OP- Get your button and have fun. Mostly, CM's will tell you happy birthday. Occasionally, they will do other things. If you are too worried, get a little piece of post it, and write UN on it and attach it to the button, so it says "It's my UN Birthday today!"

Then, when people ask...and I am sure they will, tell them your bday was in August, but you are celebrating in Disney in November! :)

My birthday was in August, and we are going to Disney thanksgiving week but it is sort of my b-day time too, my mom said that because she didnt give me a party like she usually does each year so i was wondering should i be able to get a b-day button or should i not get one since the trip is 3 months later?
It is perfect! I would imagine that very few people actually get to Disney on their actual birthdays. Disney knows this and encourages people to celebrate when they can. Go for it and have a great birthday!

Maybe you can call it your "un-Birthday". Have a great time and Happy Birthday!!! and if the Cast Members wants to give you an extra perk or two maybe explain to them how your family could not make the trip happen for your 13th birthday in August but we able to get together to celebrate it now. Im sure they will appreciate your honesty and you wont be deprived the magic.
If your family intends on celebrating your birthday while you are there then by all means enjoy it. It's not like you are just walking up, asking for a button and faking it like some people do just to get perks, kinda like the one poster said about Chef Mickey's.
Have a very Happy Un-Birthday, and enjoy the year you became a teenager...why not, Disney celebrates its big ones all year round!!!

I was at DW in January on my B-Day. I got a pin and had a great time being wished 'happy birthday!' by all the CM's.

I didn't get any 'special' perks, except a warm feeling - of course, it was my 43rd, not by 13th, so it wasn't as big a deal for me.

I did talk to another lady who was wearing a b-day button (about same age as me), and her hubby said they'd been milking it all week! I would have been embarrassed to do that, but everyone's different.

OP, I think if this is your birthday trip, and if you're an outgoing person, I'd pick a day and have it be your 'unbirthday'.

Go up to special services in whatever park you're visiting, and tell them it's your birthday, they will write your name on a big blue 'it's my birthday' button, and you can wear it proudly all day.

If it were me, I wouldn't go searching for special privileges, but it is fun to have hundreds of people wish you happy birthday!

Becoming a teenager is a big deal - I'd make the most of it!
