I received an email requesting me to go to a nonDisney website to permit them to call me for timeshare solicitation. I would normally think it was a scam, but the email mentions my guide by name (not a guide I have ever met, but he did introduce himself over the phone.) This is from the email:

In reviewing your contact information, we've discovered that we currently do not have consent to call the telephone number we have on file for you. We would like to keep you up-to-date on important updates and special offers. Please visit DVCYES.COM to complete a brief electronic form that will enable us to stay in touch.

It certainly doesn’t sound it. I would call the member services line and mention it and see what they have to say.

For one thing, it would be in your best interest to never click on a link in any email, ever.

If you need to, go directly to the web page you are being asked to visit by typing in the URL you know.

Many phishing scams create a site that looks exactly like you would expect with a slightly different URL, and get you to enter information, then you are hosed.

One can easily get an email with a link to say "suntrustbank.com" when the REAL URL is suntrust.com

I would have deleted such an email by now, and I would not call, I dont give out that information

We got a weird phone call that sounded very similar to this. It was an automated message so we just hung up and chalked it up to some kind of garbage call.

DVCYES.COM appears to be legit and owned by Disney, the WHOIS shows the name server uses DIG.com the same as other Disney owned sites.

I've been getting a bunch of junk calls from people asking if I wanted to rent out my DVC points. I have never given such info out.

I don't think it's 'legit'. if by legit you mean is it from DVC? It looks pretty legit, but I think most DVC guides probably use email that you can easily recognize for marketing. Also, they sometimes call my room when I'm on a trip - something a scammer wouldn't know to do, I hope.

You can go online on the DVC website and update all your email preferences and if you want to be called by DVC, request a call.

If you are looking to sell, rent, buy, do your own independent search.

I get emails in my spam daily advising me they can 'help' me unload my undesirable timeshare. Hit the delete button.

I recently inquired for direct sales and I am getting the same emails because I didn't authorize them to call.

Even if the website is legit the process is not. If it is DVC then it is cheating to use a non-affiliate to contact people who are not opted in to receive communication. Wow. That's really bad.

I remember getting a similar email earlier this year, but I don't remember if there was a website link in it. I *think* I went to the regular DVC member website and updated my communication preferences. Shortly after that I received a phone call from DVC to announce that my previous guide had left and I had a new guide. I assume I had somehow gotten on the "do not contact" list for DVC when I unsubscribed to some other Disney email list.

No. I opted in for emails, but opted out for telephone calls. THis was a blast email, not a personal email from the guide.
I have decided that the email is probably real, but I will not change my communication preferences to allow unsolicited calls from my guide. If I ever want to buy something, I can call him and he can call me back during the transaction. I have never had an unsolicited timeshare call come at a convenient time!
