My friends son was denied the flu shot because she doesn't have the access card (pa welfare insurance) he said they get the shots first then what ever is left will go to those on regular insurance.. is this legal?

I know here in Maine there is state supplied vaccine and Private insurance vaccine.... I'm not really sure exactly how it works..... but I know sometimes we have no private vaccine or no state vaccine so it does make a difference who gets what.
I assumed (ya know what they say about people who assume) that when my son went for his year check up (yes we are late well not really but that's a WHOLE other post) next week I could have asked for the flu shot then.. I have the same dr as her.. I guess not.. wonderful.
All I can say is to get ready for more of the same across the country if they get there way...
All of the H1N1 vaccine was paid for by the feds, so it is free to all who get it. The clinic can charge for the procedure/shot, but not for the vaccine.
My pregnant friend has been on the hunt for the H1N1 shot, but in the Seattle area, supplies are really limited and she keeps getting told that the homeless and uninsured pregnant ladies have dibs. She's understandably upset.
Nice!
Thats all I'm going to say.
At my dd's school the shot is being supplied to all kids for free. No insurance or lack thereof required.
I signed a consent form for our the middle school. Then our dd brings home a letter saying it has been canceled. Due to a shortage of the vaccine, no one at any of the county schools, except pre-schoolers, will be receiving the shot. What's up with the shortages? They know how many people there are in America. They have to have historical data to show what % of people get the flu shot. Yet the last 2-3 years, there have been shortages?

Who exactly are "they" and what is "there way"?
I am far from an expert, but I think it is pretty logical that there would have to be a shortage this year for these reasons:
1. Only so much vaccine production can happen at once. Building a new production line, training workers, etc cannot just happen overnight for ANY product and certainly not for a medical product. What this means is all of the sudden the infrastructre to make just the right amount of seasonl flu vaccine ahd to try to amke seasonal flu and H1N1. I assume for almost every H1N1 vaccine out there one regular vaccine was not made. I say almost becuase I am sure they ramped up production as much as they safely could with overtime hours, etc.
2. EVERYone is talking about the flu this year. H1N1 has all kinds of flue much more on the radar then in past years. I think the result is a lot more people getting the shots (or at least trying to) than in years past. It is just not possible to suddenly increase the supply to match this sudden increase in demand.
Of course, it is still very frustrating to not be able to get the vaccine, but maybe it feels better to know there are some valid reasons behind it![]()
from what I read it actually has to do with the eggs. Blame the chickens..![]()
