Is this ISO crazy?

Can points be used at the Value or Moderates? If so, is it crazy to be looking to buy points to use at one of them July 3-7? We're just looking for a budget trip this being our 4th visit this year.

Even though they are considered moderate resorts the points used are still significantly higher than using them at a DVC resort.

For example the Sun-Thurs points for July at Carib Beach, Coronado Springs, Port Orleans Riverside and French Qtr are 20 points per night and at VWL they are 14 for the same timeframe.

That's what I wanted to know. We don't own, I was looking at all options to make this a more budget trip, including renting points. WOW what a difference. Wander why?

It's always more points to book a non-DVC resort. When you use points to rent a non-DVC resort, there is trading going on between DVD and the other entity, whether it is somewhere in Mexico or on WDW property.

Think about it. DVC gets a discounted rack rate from the other resorts, likely higher than the best discount we might get at times. They then rent out the rooms (points) given up by the members. They must pay a commission to have CRO do so and they don't rent them all out. It's kind of like a pyrimid scheme or buying from a specialty store with too many middle men or a convenience store.

Your best bet for a long weekend is just to pay cash and get the best rate you can. You will not do well with points either way (DVC resort or other) for your trip.
