Is this holding up a line?

I was reading another thread where someone mentioned people getting testy over people in line for TSM stopping in the queue to take a pic with one of the props. I don't think I understand this(but there's a lot I don't understand). Let's say we're in a line for an attraction that has a 30 minute wait time. If I'm 20 minutes from the front of the line and I stop for 10 seconds for a photo of something, as soon as the pic is shot I will scurry to catch up the 9 feet that has cleared in front of me while I took the pic. Seems to me as long as the person at the front of the line (or the few people immediately behind them) this isn't delaying boarding an attraction that everyone will catch up. It seems to me as long as the people that are next to board, there is no delay for the folks further back in the line. Am I missing something?:confused3

That's correct.

A short delay at some point in the queue will likely not affect the time a guest actually boards the attraction, one way or the other.

You're forgetting that some people are so ridiculously impatient that if they see a line move 2 feet and they don't immediately move forward those 2 feet ... :furious:

Micca, this isn't intended for you. Since you were referencing the other thread, but I think anyone getting pissed over a brief delay like this requires the following:

Yup, believe it or not, there are some that get their feathers in a ruffle over the silliest things.

Unfortunately, stopping for a pic along the standby line happens to be one of them.

I still find it odd that anyone would let such small issues bother them on vacation. I've actually witnessed it at TSM. People just seem to be in a real hurry to get no where sometimes.

Only if you're near the loading area and cause a gap in ride vehicles.

Also, at WWOHP on the ride Forbidden Journey (best ride ever btw) there is alot of cool stuff near the loading area. Now, it won't really cause too much of a delay in loading people onto the ride but it's not fair for some of these rooms to be held up because then the group immediately behind you won't get to enjoy the room since now they have to walk faster through it. On that ride there's a lot of cool stuff on the queue line and alot of people stopping to take pictures or wait for the whole scene to show.

The same thing happens in traffic. If your're 30 cars back at a stop light and the person in front of you moves up 20 feet but you delay for a while, there's no delay as long as the people at the front move(and that you are paying attention when it's time to advance). The concern there might be if someone is blocking an adjacent intersection back down the line. This really doesn't come into play in the parks at WDW.

When I'm at WDW I want to board the attraction as much as the next guy, but if someone snaps some photos with the beautiful queue artwork in the background, it isn't any big deal to me. I can wait for 20 minutes 120 feet in line as well as I can wait 20 minutes 110 feet in line :earsboy:

Pull out of line and take your pictures. Let others go ahead of you. That's what I did. (At Harry Potter - don't see any way to pull out if you want a picture of Potato Head at TSM)

:confused3 Why would anyone care if you stopped to take a potato head pic? Isn't going to affect when they load. Passing would be dumb, you'll all end up standing side by side again before you get to the glasses. Chill out people (not those on the thread) for crying out loud. Some people seem to have no understanding of lines.

They drive that way in commute traffic on the freeway too.... :rotfl:

I will say it does not bother me. But this is not my only trip ever. We go regularly. I do understand to a point. We were waiting stand by in TSM and this family wanted a pic with Mr Potato Head. Which would have been fine if it was quick. But they wanted no one else in the pic, whole family and then each person, then the kids, then one parent and kids, then the other parent and kids, then just parents. Really? Please take a pic and move on. It was just irritating all around. And I took a ton of picks in that line. It is neat. But I didn't stop the line to take a ton of pics at each thing and multiples of everyone. THAT is what gets people upset. One quick pic with the kids in front won't upset people. And if it does, just feel bad for them about how they aren't enjoying their vacation.

Technically, you ARE holding up the line when stopping to take a quick picture of Mr. Potato Head at Toy Story Mania.
Realistically, it shouldn't matter as
1) It's not anywhere near the boarding area.
2) Most everyone will stop and get a picture.
3) There's nothing more pleasant than huge "gaps" in a continuous loading line. It's like a bonus movement.

The problem is the "me first, screw everyone else mentality" of our society. Those type A personalities just don't realize that a brief stoppage followed by an accelerated jump will still amount to the same time waiting.

Go figure. :sad2:

While that may be annoying, it doesn't extend the amount of time you are waiting on line. I understand your point though, I like to be moving. Even if is a little at a time at least I'm moving.

You could always ask the people in line behind you to take the picture. That way, if there's any yelling, it will be at them... ;)

if the line is moving but the group in front of us stops then we go right around them. They get there picture and nobody has to wait on them.

We have a lot of this at Buzz Lightyear's AstroBlasters in Disneyland--a lot of people like to stop and take a pic of Buzz with the giant Etch-A-Sketch. usually it is not a problem as the line usually is backed up to there--but in early hours this ride can often be a walk-on. In that circumstance there is enough room to go around and I think the people taking the pic (who often spend time lining up kids and getting the right shot framed) should encourage the people behind them to go around since they will be walking on the ride. Otherwise, no problem!

I would agree with you when the queue is full. But first thing after RD when the queue is moving everyone through, it is irritating that people keep stopping to take pics. I have run into people by accident a few times because we are walking through at a pretty steady pace and all of a sudden they stop with no warning.

If they stand aside and let you by when the queue is moving or if the queue is full, I have no problem if they want to take pics. Might as well take pics when it isn't moving.

My take on this: 99% agree. I HATE it when you are in line for something like, say, Peter Pan. And the kid (or childlike adult) behind you huffs and puffs every time that you are not paying attention and don't move forward two steps IMMEDIATELY.

However, let me tell you one thing that happened. We were getting on the Tomorrowland rocket ships (can't think of the actual name of that ride right now). INcidentally, I like the ride a lot but HATE the elevator, such a waste and delay in getting on that ride, I could fix that to make it 50% more efficient overnight. Anyways, so we get in line, there is like barely any one in line, but it takes us FOREVER to get to the elevator. My daughter and I just miss one elevator run, and so of course we are then the first for the next elevator. Like 20 minutes later we finally board the elevator. THEN, we wait forever for the 1 CM to let us go up to the rockets and we finally get in. I am totally aggravated at this point, and the people behind us ask the CM to take their picture in the rocket. This CM moved in slow freakin motion, of course I also want my picture in the rocket but no I have waited long enough. So I don't get my picture, but dang, come on that ride is so annoying! They need to fix that queue.

Yeah - problem is its spilling over to Buzz in Tomorrowland. We saw several families stopping to take a picture with Buzz at the end of the queue and cars were passing by unloaded. There it does actually hold up the line as its a continuous loader.

At one point a manager CM was out verbally telling people to keep moving - it was particularly crowded that night. On one hand I don't really care to be perfectly honest - for most people its a one time thing. On the other hand as a frequent visitor it gets old after a while. Again - doesn't really bug me especially at TSM as the line isn't going anywhere anyway, but at Buzz it does hold you up. Its not even that I'm in a rush necessarily, but sometimes a mass of people has its own momentum!
