Is this chicken okay?

Chicken is only good in the fridge for 2 days- MAX! I had a friend who became violently ill because she cooked chicken that had been in the fridge too long She thought it was still good as no one had informed her this could be dangerous. And wound up in a hospital with vomitting/diarrhea and on IV nutrition for weeks!!

The chicken could look and smell perfectly fine and still make you quite ill even if you cook it properly.

Which is why I'm a vegetarian.

In all honesty, when I did eat meat, I was VERY anal about cooking it within a day or two of it being bought. I wonder how long the chicken sat at Walmart before you even bought it...

I've decided to err on the side of caution and throw it out. It's not worth the risk. I think when in doubt, throw it out is the best advice.

10 days is a really long time but like a pp said, it could have sat in the meat section of the store till the sell by date. I'm more inclined to trust the temp of my own fridge over the store's case. I would have opened it and gave it the smell test. If it was odorless I would have used it or put it in the freezer.

Wow, I would have eaten it. You have no idea how long the chicken has sat on the shelves at the food stores...

When in doubt, I smell first. I don't ever go by "use by dates." Meat clearly has a foul smell when it's going bad. I know. There are many meat packages I wish I hadn't smelled, lol...
