Adding the park-hopper option to our tickets is going to cost a little over $100. I noticed that it is really cheap to add a day or two worth of park tickets to your MYW package, though. If I KNOW that I'm only going to park hop one or two times, couldn't I just buy 2 extra days worth of park admission and then use two tickets on the day I want to park hop???

Also, if my plan is to arrive on Dec. 30th (holiday room rates) and stay through Jan 7th, can make two reservations: one for only 2 nights at the higher holiday rate, and then one for the other 6 nights at the value rate? (With all our park tickets attached to that later and longer reservation along with the DP? I realize that we then wouldn't have the DP for the other 2 days we are there, but I'm positive we could make it stretch by sharing food! We nearly exploded last time!)

What do you think? Will this work? Is it permitted?

As I understand it, you can't use non-hopping MYW tickets in two parks on one day. The way the ticket is encoded, it won't let you. But you CAN buy a separate one day/one park ticket for the second park. But if you do it more than one day, it becomes more expensive than the hopping option.

Take it from me, our last day of our vacation was really spoiled last week because we tried to use our extra day to get into two parks in one day. In the past, we had been able to do this with the old style of tickets, if you wanted to go to more than one park, you just forfitted a day. I had no reason to believe this was no longer the case. We had promised the kids we would return to MK for our last afternoon/evening to finish up the things we'd missed and to end the trip with Wishes. We had a plan of what to see and in what order and everything. We got to the gate and they sent us to guest services who would not let us in (we'd been to the Studios earlier in the day and had gone back to rest). We had one day left on the kids passes (DH and I have APs) and it was 3:45 pm. Wishes was at 8pm. It was last Friday night and it still makes me sad. Our kids actually started crying. I just couldn't see spending $40 apiece for 3 1/2 hrs. Of course, after making that decision I couldn't sleep, feeling so bad for my kids, but since we are DVC I know we'll be back in two years. My DH told me I needed to get a grip, there was no way we were going to spend that kind of money for those few hours.

I guess I was actually a bit disappointed that once they saw the kids crying and us trying to explain to them that we had made a mistake, that they couldn't have worked some sort of Disney magic. I always read about it on these boards, but let me tell you I experienced no magic whatsoever last trip (unless I was paying big bucks for it)!

We did have an terrific time, however. That last day was just a bit of a bummer.

Also, I 'think' that the unused meal credits expire on checkout day. So make sure of that before you don't use them and lose them....

Disney priced the new tickets to get people to extend their stays. They made more days extremely cheap. These extra days however, cannot be used for park hopping. Disney's tickets are sold based on the # of days, not the # of park admissions.

It's a simple description of the MYW base ticket:
(One theme park per day of your ticket)†

So no, you cannot use one of the days to make your ticket a "hopper". The way the tickets are priced, that was obvious to me; no one would buy the hopper option when an extra day is only $2 or so more!!

As far as your dining plan, I don't see how that would work, unless I'm not understanding what you want to do. You want a 2-day reservation followed by a 6-day reservation, right? With no dining plan on the FIRST two days? So your DP would not even be STARTED until your third day, so how could you "share" it for those days? We've never used the DP, so I'm not sure if I'm missing something...

So...did you return to MGM your last evening and view Fantasmic?

As to no Disney magic, I imagine the CM's at the theme park gates are used to this happenning and get immune to tears and upset adults.

As others have confirmed, a base ticket allows you to visit one park per day, just one park. If you try to enter a 2nd park on the same day with a base ticket you will be refused entrance to the park unless you purchase a separate ticket or add the park hopping option to your existing tickets.

With regard to your plan to split your reservation, that would be fine if you don't mind not having admission to the parks for your first two nights. The tickets and dining plan are attached to the second reservation and cannot be used until AFTER you check-in for that specific reservation.

Last year we had 3 reservations over 15 nights. We bought a base ticket each for 2 of the ressies I believe so we could get the dining plan, then used our AP's to get into the parks. The ressie in the middle was a room only and we went to Universal during those days, but my point is that yep you can have several ressies and not even have to move rooms.

Boy oh boy - all of this makes my head hurt:headache:, and makes me even gladder that I live in Orlando and have APs!!!!

I'm having fun making ADRs for all the special meals that I can over the next few months, and my great nephews first visit - trying to figure out what to do with him and not overwhelm him, but make the most of his trip.... all during EASTER week - (what was my sister thinking!)!!!

I could not imagine having to try and figure out what to do and when to do it, knowing that it might be quite a while before my next vacation!:surfweb:

No, it will not work. If you try to use a non-hopper as a hopper pass, the CM's screen when you put your ticket through will show a message indicating that you have already used that non-hopper to enter a different park that day.
The only thing you could do is purchase an entirely separate non-hopper. Use (for example) pass A to enter Magic Kingdom in the morning; use pass B to enter Epcot at night.
Obviously, this is far LESS cost-effective than simply adding the park-hopping option to your existing tickets.

As for your split reservation - if you purchase at least a one-day pass per person in your room for the 2-day reservation, you can purchase the dining plan for the two nights of that reservation for each person in your room as required. If you do not purchase at least a one-day pass per person, your two night reservation is NOT a package and is therefore NOT eligible for the dining plan. Since your package/dining plan would not start until you check BACK into your resort, no dining plan will be available to you until your third day. Therefore, there is nothing to "stretch" to cover your first two nights.

It seems as if at least once a week, different people post here and either ask if they can use two days of a non-hopper on the same day, or that they have a brilliant idea of how to beat the system and save money by doing exactly this. It simply makes absolute sense that Disney has a policy/procedure in place for exactly this situation, and that no "Disney magic" would happen in this case. Figure if a few dozen people here think of it, hundreds of Guests every day must try the same thing, without checking it with any 'experts'.

Believe me, I certainly was not trying to beat the system. In the past this was something that not only worked, it was something they told us we could do. I didn't remember how much I had paid for the extra days so the fact this wouldn't have been cost effective for Disney never crossed my mind.

As for Disney magic, I am talking about many different things, none of which fit into this thread. We still had an amazing vacation, my point to the op was that no, her plan would not work.
