Is this against the rules

Who is outradged? I'm merily expressing my opinion like you are.

:rotfl2: What do you think the intended purpose of a campsite is? Uh, maybe TO CAMP! :rotfl:

Hey Sonya, maybe Disney could create a virtual campground - lease out non existant spots to those who would be foolish enough to rent them for "benefits." I bet if Disney offered the same benefits to these people for 42 bucks without having to "pull one over their eyes" they wouldn't go for it, and in fact would probably start a thread complaining about Disney taking advantage of the fact that they are staying off site to save a buck.:lmao:

I am now orgainizing the members of the camping forum. We will be renting all available off site units within a 50 mile radius of WDW in an effort to 1. prevent people who want or can only afford to stay off site from being able to, and 2. to raise the price of any available units we are not able to secure so that renting is prohibitively expensive. After we accomplish this, we will organize an invasion of the pools at all the deluxe resorts. We may even bring our dogs with us. Our battle cry:KUNGALOOSH!

Well, maybe I'm just crazy but if I was planning a Grand Gathering, I would make sure of availibility of the rooms/sites BEFORE I planned it. I wouldn't plan the Grand Gathering and then try to book rooms/sites around it. And maybe I would have planned it for other than a holiday weekend.

I don't know if you're crazy or not...but perhaps I wasn't clear.:confused3

She had been hoping to join the already exisiting Fourth of July Grand Gathering of Disboard Camping Forum members who are currently in FW ...ONLY FW said there was no availability for the fourth. Yet those members in FW for the Fourth are reporting that there have been three unoccupied sites in their loop. This has also caused problems with others who wanted to be located near to one another for the gathering. While the three sites sit unoccupied, there are those in the gathering that could have been placed together instead of other loops.

I am going to do this someday.

And the reason... just becasue.

I find the fact that every time this comes up folks are accused of STEALING from Disney just very entertaining. I am paying Disney for stuff I am not using. I doubt they mind LOL!

So someone with family of 5 could stay at FW in their RV and rent a room at the yacht club for a day to use the pool. Not financially smart but could just be that one day someone on the DVC wait list might need in the middle of their vacation.

Now we're talkin. This is even better than my idea of renting all the off site units, and it makes about as much financial sense, but then, I don't think we're dealing with Donald Trump on this thread, either.:thumbsup2

Well--that makes a little more sense. But, I still don't see why the fact that she didn't make a reservation early enough to get in with the other Grand Gathering folks makes it the fault of other people who are paying full price for the campsite and only using part of the benefit of it.

You may be right- but I'm not in that boat. I would 100% pay...and not just 42 bucks. In order to have the DDP, EMH, and a KTTW card, I'd pay upwards of 25 bucks extra per person easily without batting an eye. Heck, I've thought about paying 250 a night for AKL - which we would NOT sleep in just to get the animal safari in the morning! We will probably do this at some point in the future.

I think you would be suprised at how many people would fork over the cash for these benefits. Maybe I'm foolish or stupid as some have said but we truly value the DDP (even just paying for it, not free), and we LOVE EMH. I'd fork over 100 bucks extra per day easily for 2A2C to have these benefits, on top of the DDP cost.

I wholeheartedly wish that DW WOULD charge for these privledges for offsite guests. Then we wouldn't want to book FW OR a value to get these options. Also, I 100% wish that AK would allow the sunrise safari as an option on a first come first serve, then we wouldn't be paying 250 a night just to be able to go on it. Lots of other parks are charging for these options and LOADS of people are forking over the cash, some may complain about it- but on the contrary, I wouldn't. I'd do it in a heartbeat without complaint.

Maybe I'm wasteful with our $$$, but that's my 'problem' and I have NO issue whatsoever to pay for something where I get a true value. EMH to me is worth a lot of extra $$ to us.

I'm sure this will get a lot of folks angry, but I can't resist this…teachable moment. What you've been arguing here — under the guise of doing the "right thing" or "morality"— is self-interest. "Don't rent the camp site because I (or others like me) might want it." I'm sure you believe you're arguing some great, grand ethical principle, but it's plain old self-interest — the same self-interest the OP is operating under. There's nothing noble about saying "Don't buy something you won't use because I might want to buy it instead." Both positions serve the exact same purpose: What is best for ME?

Thanks for the lesson..but actually I've never even camped in FW.(although I hope to) Have stayed in the cabins. So I don't consider it self interest. It's my opinion..plain and simple, and I'm entitled to it. You don't have to agree with it..but I find your post rather mean spirited. Yep..that's me..my great grand, ethical principled self.

Wow, I have some great investment opportunities for you. One involves a bridge in Brooklyn.

This is just my opinion but to me this sounds like double booking ADR's. If you do this then you might cause another family of not getting a reservation there, because what if you happen to get the last tent site and would not actually be staying there. So I say you could pay a little more and stay at a Value Resort, so this way you do not have to stay offsite and still get all the onsite perks.

IMO, I disagree with the comparison of this idea to double booking an ADR. In the case of the ADRs, it's wrong because you are basically making false promises to eat there. In this case, you are actually paying for the space. Whether you decide to use what you paid for or not should be your business. Also, FW seems like a great place to actually use your site during the day (instead of at night)-perfect place for a picnic or mid day break.

We thought of this idea a few weeks ago. Our reasoning is that we are planning our HM & we wanted to stay in a nice resort for a few nights off site, but we were still interested in EMH. Let's face it, off site resorts might be similarly priced as some WDW resorts, but there is a big difference in comfort and luxury between $100/night off site & a WDW value resort. We were planning to use our camping space during the day as a resting/picnic spot as mentioned above. BUT, what we realized in the end is for the price of off site (say $100) plus the $50/night camping price, you can basically have enough $$ to stay at a moderate, which is a definate step up from a Value or stay at the Swan/Dolphin, which is supposed to be quite luxurious, it's basically in a deluxe resort location (you can walk to Epcot and DHS!!), and it includes EMH!! This is definately worth looking into.

By the way, after all of our FW research for the Plan A that we had, we actually decided to pay for AND use the camp site at FW! The grounds look so pretty, you are located right on Bay Lake, just a boat ride away from MK!!

What a sad attitude.
Why is that a sad attitude? This person was just asking a question and asking what others thought about her idea. It's pretty clear that she is brainstorming and not having malicious intent....

YES! My sister and her husband have LOADS of $$. They LOVE FW. Their son loves AKL and my sister LOVES GF. They have on several occasions, SLEPT at the Fort, but purchased nights at both hotels in order to enjoy the pool, the scenery etc. Whether or not someone feels this is a good use of THEIR $$$, isn't the issue. They have enough $$$ to become DVC members and then some...they see value in just having the hotel room. My sister laughs and says sometimes she'll just check in to use the tub and relax in the room! LOL!

I must be really dense - but what's the big deal about a KTTW card?? I've seen it mentioned on here several times. I thought it was just your "room key" that you could add charging privileges to? Is it not? And if so, at the end of your stay, you still have to pay the charges, so why not just charge stuff as you go? :confused3 I know some people don't have credit cards, but you could easily get a pre-paid Visa to use. So the big benefit of a KTTW card just escapes me.

Lead the way...I'm right behind ya!

Are these RV sites you were quoted perhaps? :confused3 The price you were quoted is not a tent site price (well at least a $42.00 price) and if not, would be a totally different topic than what OP proposed.

It says:

tent/pop-up campsite
Secluded Tent/Pop-Up Campsites include hookups for power and water, as well as picnic table and charcoal grill. All campsites are bordered by lush green wilderness and are only steps away from Disney magic. Nearby, you will find deluxe, air-conditioned Comfort Stations with restrooms, private showers, ice dispensers, laundry facilities and pay phones. This campsite category is restricted to tents and vans or pop-up type vehicles only. Motorhomes and fifth-wheels cannot be accomodated in this category. For those and other types of RVs, please select one of our other well-appointed campsite categories.

The following equipment is best suited to our Tent Pop/Up Campsites:

Truck/Van Camper
Truck/Van Camper with Additional Tents
Pop Up Camper
Pop Up Camper with Additional Tents
Tents

It appears from putting in the different dates, and then the different number of campers, that in July the price for 1 camper is $60 a weeknight, $62 Fri/Sat.....for 10 campers it went up to $68/$70, but as of August 3, it goes to $42 for 1 camper, and 10 campers is $50. There is also a preferred full hookup and preferred campsite for additional cost.

These price changes would certainly go along with the summer season that goes from May 2 to August 2for the higher prices and as of August 3 it goes to value season until October 1.

These prices are just from doing a room only price quote off of disneyworld.com.

:lmao: That is the most ridiculous example of comparing apples and oranges that I have ever read. There is absolutely no correlation between what this person proposes to do and my utilizing the campsite I reserve in the way it is intended. Your logic is flawed, but really funny. Thanks for the laugh!

Glad I could make you laugh. But how is your feeling that because OP reserved a campsite, paid for said campsite and then chooses to ALSO pay for an offsite room as well, mean that they should also allow a stranger to sleep on their couch or extra room?

If you're not willing to share, than don't expect someone else to.
