Is this a scam, or new marketing ploy?

That email is really gross. Ew. I'm going this weekend and looked to see what they sent me. It's a lot less ick. I should stop by a casual Open House.

Actually if you told them you were buying resale, you technically were interested in points. And if you were already a member when you told them that, they likely made a notation of the resort you were interested in at that time. Again, a simple call to DVC Sales will answer any questions for you about why you were contacted.

Again, they called me out of the blue over a year ago (could have been two years??) asking if I was interested in more points. I told them that I was looking into resale, that was it. I have not had any communication with them recently. This email comes out of the blue.

I would think it is a mistake, but maybe the marketing has changed? :confused3

That looks like something they would send out to someone who has requested points in a sold out resort. If you decline to purchase, they go to the next person on the list.

I had to hunt down my DVC guide (the one who facilitated my last purchase was no longer there) and ask to be put on the list to be called when they have more info on the new Disneyland DVC property. I also had to give my permission to be called.

Agreed. We actually did something similar (but different!) with our DVC representative when we wanted to be kept up-to-date regarding the Reflections resort they were going to build - until Covid hit. At one time, we were interested in that resort and possibly buying. We do not want any of the unsolicited contact.

That could be all it took to have your name flagged and be on a list of potential interest.

I get emails occasionally about more points with my guides name on them. Can’t say they bother me and simply trash them…unless I do want to inquire.

one way to determine if the email is legit is to click on the email address. You should be able to see the actual email address when clicking on it rather than what is shown in the email. Try it with an email you know is a scam or spam and you will see the actual email address is gibberish.

Um, yeah, DVC is pulling out the stops to make sales. I just received a phone call to let me know about the Poly special going on "since many of his (the guides) members were not aware and it expires tonight but he could extend it for 5 more days if I wanted to take a look at it".

I've never gotten a call from DVC sales without making an inquiry and it's been years since I've done that.

I got one of those several years ago offering points at OKW. It was legit and I wound up purchasing 25 points.

I actually do believe this came from DVD so I'm really leaning towards "Marketing Ploy," at this point. I'm not losing sleep over it, but I know in my heart of hearts that nothing I did on my end prompted them to reach out to me at this time.

Neither did I. I do have my setting so that they aren't restricted from contacting me so that opens it up for them when they decided to access membership for marketing purposes. Up until now that was only the mass emails.

I guess I'm such a lost cause with all my Blue Card contracts they didn't even try to contact me when I was at WDW, haha. I feel so left out.
