Hiya

Its getting closer and I've saved like mad (and I mean mad).

Got a silly amount of money to go with, however thier are 3 adults one child, 3 not been before so looking forward to having a great time.

Comments welcome on what we should spend ourt wedge on.

This is a very personal choice I guess. We are a family of 4 and have spent as little as £1000 in a 2 week holiday, and as much as £2500. (That was for food, drink, shopping etc, not park tickets)

It varies so much on how much shopping you do, where you eat etc too I find :)

I guess if you have been 8 times before (which I think it says in your avatar) you probably have an excellent idea already - do you just want us to reassure you that it's OK to take a lot? ;) :teeth:

Personally I don't think you can ever take too much money to WDW with you :teeth:

If you've got it spend it!!! but don't get into debt ;)

Whatever you take you always seem to never have enough with Disney - you always come home fleeced! :rotfl2:

If you have been saving for ages especially for this holiday then I think you should take it all and have a fabulous time!

If your gonna goto Orlando, then you must go all out, I dont think you can goto such a great place and have a strict budget... GO MAD! :)

It is a much discussed subject but a very difficult one to answer, depends on how much shopping you will do, are you staying in a villa and therefore having to buy groceries ? do you already have your theme park tickets? etc

There is nothing wrong with over-budgeting, always plan on taking more than you think you will need - we normally bring over $1000 back home with us which we put towards the next holiday.

I agree, we have always come home with money, often over £1,000 unused and believe me we don't stint ourselves.

One word of caution though, however much you take with you, make sure you have a CC for emergencies - a visit to the hospital for antibiotics for a dental abcess, cost DH over $300 in 1997 - paid up front, medical care can eat into any budget.

What's the matter with you people?! Spend, spend, spend! ;)

Seriously, though, it is just down to priorities. For the longest time, I could not bring myself to spend money on holidays at all - it seemed like throwing money away to me. I'd far rather have something tangible for my hard-earned cash. These days I live for my holidays and we really do spend ridiculous amounts on them. We've already got 3 planned for 2006. DH woke up this morning and said "Happy 2006 - The Year of the Holiday!"

Out of interest, how much is a ridiculous amount? You don't say.

We could never come home with more than a few $$. We regularly evaluate our finances during our stay and adjust what we spend accordingly. If we had lots of $$ left with 3 or 4 days to go then we'd go bonkers on all sorts of things ;)

I think if we came back with any money, we'd worry that we'd not made the best use of our precious holiday time :)

like several other posters, we take quite a bit with us and end up bringing most of it back home...
i'm a believer in being prepared....
the truth is, we mostly use plastic when we travel (specifically American Express, since their service is so good in the event of lost or stolen cards - i know this from experience....my husband's amex number was stolen on one of our far east trips.....we only noticed it when we got the bill -- with $15,000 of charges that weren't his....gulp.....)...
everything that we can put on our WDW key card we do and everything else goes straight onto the Amex card (we also have various visa and mastercards with us as backup)....we end up using the cash only for tips, taxis, and during our new york part of the trip...

but the cash is with us, just in case...

we've also had some medical and dental emergencies, but they all took plastic as well, so it wasn't an issue....

No such thing as too much. Bring what you can afford and have fun!!

Just enjoy your self and dont get into debt, I always come back with some money but still have a good time :cool1:

Hope you enjoy your holiday ,roll on November :hourglass

I didn't think we'd spent that much on our last trip until we got home and I worked it out. Everything (flights, hotel, spending money) came to about £14,000! That's just for the 2 of us.

We're planning a trip to Tokyo Disney this year and the flights alone could be as much as £30,000, though. Better get saving!

£14,000, £30,000 :rolleyes1

Wow, like you said, you better get saving! :rotfl:

If you want to SAVE some money when you are spending (sounds strange I know) ......

but you really can make your money go alot further by taking a MINIMUM amount of CASH, and get yourself a Nationwide credit card and spend on that as much as possible (within your budget of course :rotfl2: ). This has no hidden exchange fees AND really excellent rates of exchange to boot.

Safer than cash and your $$$$s will go alot further (plus you get cash back if you pay it off in full within 14 days of the bill).

NO other credit card presently comes close for foreign travel. :goodvibes

We probably won't take as much this time round ( probably £1000/week)with a C/C for back up.We normally take loads, though never enough to buy the huge wooden Mickey in DTD!,but we're fed up getting stung on the buy back rate! We like to eat where we want & not to have to keep saying "we'll come back"

Sadly they have stopped giving money back on purchases made abroad - only purchases in ££s get cash back
