Is this a real video? Tower or Terror-No Seatbelts

I always thought that video was edited somehow. But if it's the real thing then dang, people are really that dumb!

FWIW I am very short. I try to get away with keeping my lap bar loose on EE so that I can stand up on the big drop (I can easily stretch my legs out straight in the car because....they're short). My son now does the same. It's way more fun that way.

I was on EE when a couple of guys tried to do this. They stopped the ride so fast!

At 1:17 They show the picture. You can see the the guy back there and also the Camera guy looking right at him. Looks like it was shot before the initial drop happened.

I imagine you can still purchase it. Unless obscene in some way, I'm sure they'd let it go.

Exactly! There is no way that would have shown on the screen in the ride photo area; they don't show people doing stunts on Splash Mountain either, if it breaks the basic ride rules.

One year at the DL Halloween party my nephew was levitating a plastic pirate sword on ToT (he was 18yo) and not only did he get a stern warning when the ride was over, they also didn't show our ride photo. People in the car with us were mad.

Would Tower of Terror be a different experience with the seat belt loose but connected above the lap... to be have more space between the rider's lap and the belt... kind of like the way used to be with a lap bar?

Not that I would do that... because TOT, well... terrifies me. I put the seatbelt on super tight. But I might ask the person sitting next to me to try it!

I also assumed that when seatbelts are fastened, and after the check (pull the yellow tag)... that the ride locks the belts so it cannot be unfastened during the ride.... Please tell me that's true! It's a big fear of mine that the belt/lap bar will fail during a ride.

Yes! Back in those days I would ALWAYS ask for the middle seat in the back with the seat belt. I learned early on that I could put a lot of slack in that belt, then when the system "locked" it wouldn't retract. Those were some very, very fun rides! But then, when they went to seat belts at every seat, they also changed the belt ratchet so that it only locked for loosening, so any slack would be taken up and then re-locked. I still like ToT, but it's nowhere near as fun as those first few years in Florida...

I think it's totally doable in the sequence where you're hurled up quickly then plummet immediately if you give yourself a little jump start with your legs you could get a bit of air time.

These people are nuts. I hold on for dear life! Lol

It looks like he put a lot of slack in the belt and then slipped out. You couldn't tell he wasn't wearing the seatbelt in the on ride photo....

I work a lot in after effects and to cut something like this would be next level. This is a bunch of punk kids chasing the 'hacking' disneyland videos that are now popular.

I routinely slouch when putting on the seat belt so it will be loose. After we get going on the ride I sit normal and have about 10+" of play. I sit with my arms in the air and I can tell you for certain, you leave the seat easily on the drops. I saw a documentary on TOT and they show that they actually drop you faster than free fall. When we go down, I hit the top of the seat belt and it is tight. I can't imagine how far you would go up without something to hold you down.

Who knows if this is fake or not, but I love the ride and I wouldn't try this!

I think Robo's comment on the lighting is most telling. I've watched a bunch of other ride-thrus of ToT and I've never seen as much light with minimal flashing during the drops. Most videos have way more darkness and lightning-type effects. There's plenty of light when they're hanging out at the top couple of levels, but once the drop starts its nearly instantly black.

And I'm guessing Mythbusters never got around to proving or disproving this event... even if they had approached Disney, there are plenty of reasons they might have said "no": (a) rival network, (b) liability issues, (c) further negative publicity for the ride.

The light would be from the camera. It looks to me to be exactly what would happen on that ride if unrestrained.

Last time I tried to gather up some belt in my hand before I latched it. Of course when the CM did 'Hands up' I was busted. She gave me a little smirk.

Yeah, I guess if you brought in a really bright light for your camera, you could pull it off. I'd be one angry rider though if a couple of guys were filming with bright lights during my experience.

About a year ago I was on ToT in the second row on the left. A woman in the first row had her sunglasses tucked into the V of her shirt. When we started to drop, I saw those glasses float in front of her! When the ride was over, they were on the floor on the right side, someone picked them up. I said to her "did you see your sunglasses float?". She said "no, I had my eyes closed"!

One time some teenage boys did something in the front row, either they lifted their shirts or made an obscene gesture. An announcement came on at the end saying there would be no picture available.

I don't really see how someone could fake this video?

I said the same thing when I watched Jurassic Park 20 years ago. It made me believe Dinosaurs were actually real animals, not just mythical creatures!

The weightlessness is what makes the ride great. I was on the ride when the kid next to me did the quarter on the knee thing and it went flying. it didn't float. I assume this means it wasn't enough weightlessness
