Is this a real video? Tower or Terror-No Seatbelts

Yes, very obviously a fake. He is "flying" with way too much control. He rises so smoothly and straight. It's a fake!!

If you were to really ride TOT without a seatbelt you would be flung about like a ragdoll and be badly injured probably injuring others when you fall on them.

Not really, no.

The ride's action and direction of motion does not work like that.

Before the seat belts were ultimately installed after years of operation,
countless thousands (millions?) of guests rode the attraction with only a lap bar across their legs.

A very LOOSE-FITTING lap-bar if there were very large guests seated with very small guests.

Other than a slight rise from the seat-bottom, nothing untoward "happened" to the smaller guests.

There's a lot of "illusion" to how the drops make your body "feel," without actually being
too rough or actually "hovering-over-of-your-seat" to any great degree.

Robo is right. TOT at one time did not have seatbelts. I remember on our first trip riding with my 11 yr old very skinny son. I will never forget looking over at him mid ride and he was scrunched down as low as he could with his arms wrapped around the bar.:rolleyes1 I dont think he rode it again until several trips later when I told him the ride now had seatbelts.

It's been posted and discussed several times before.

It's a flat-out fake.

The ride's motion does not create that kind of "weightlessness."

I figured. I couldn't find anything saying it was and was debating with someone. Thanks.

Don't know anything about the veracity of the video but I do know that if you don't have your seat belt on CM's WILL see you and there will be consequences.

I went with a group of teens last year and 4 of them decided to ride ToT w/o the seat belt. They told us that the CM's told them they were not allowed to ride anything at DHS for the rest of the day and that they would not be allowed back into DHS for 1 year.

I don't know how true that was either, but the students were certainly contrite. :thumbsup2

The video is a fake but the pre seatbelt ToT was crazy! I was tiny and shared a lap bar with my older cousin and did get a little zero-G experience.

Like the ride much more with the individual belts. And feel much better about letting DD ride it, too

I hope this is fake. If it turns out not to be, that guy is real stupid. Why would anyone fake this though? I don't know, people concern me.:sad2::sad2:

This happened all the time back when I worked there in 2005. The weird thing is that if this a real video, several Cast Members are to blame for not catching it. When you first get into the elevator and sit down, the CM loading the vehicle has a panel on the right side that show each seat with a light that shows if the seatbelt is fastened. Therefore, he can see if if someone is sitting there without a seatbelt on.

However, this panel only shows if there is a seatbelt locked in. What it doesn't stop is someone sitting on their belt. What the kid probably did was fasten the belt before he sat down, therefore his seat was lit up. What the CM failed to do was to have everyone "put your hands up!" and visually check if they can see a seatbelt over everyone's hips.

Then, the ENTIRE ride is being watched by someone in a room with cameras, and their sole purpose of the time they are in there is to have their eyes glued to the screens, looking for anything out of the ordinary. What bothers me is that almost the entire drop sequence was taken with the kid very obviously flying out of his seat and no ride stop of any kind was initiated. The kid was obviously very stupid, but for 2 Cast Members to miss a very important safety procedure bothers me too.

The video is faked... like the umpteen-dozen other faked viral videos on youtube.

The whole idea is to doctor the images to make it look real.

Does anyone have any theories how the video is doctored? Not disputing its lack of authenticity, just trying to understand the mechanics.

I'm not sure if it's real or fake but I know one thing: It's hilarious!!!

It looks to me like the guy stood up during the drop to make it look like he was flying. I don't doubt he was a fool and rode with no seatbelt, but I doubt the levitating.

Would Tower of Terror be a different experience with the seat belt loose but connected above the lap... to be have more space between the rider's lap and the belt... kind of like the way used to be with a lap bar?

Not that I would do that... because TOT, well... terrifies me. I put the seatbelt on super tight. But I might ask the person sitting next to me to try it!

I also assumed that when seatbelts are fastened, and after the check (pull the yellow tag)... that the ride locks the belts so it cannot be unfastened during the ride.... Please tell me that's true! It's a big fear of mine that the belt/lap bar will fail during a ride.

You do levitate during the ride though, which is usually limited by the seatbelt. If it is real, though, there would be so many safety mechanisms he'd have to bypass to do it. That to me is what makes it unfaesible.
