Is this a joke ?

Am I the only one seriously disturbed by the pictures of Mickey and Goofy, especially the former? This is just my opinion, but I agree that Walt would not approve of this. I just really, really don't like this idea.:sad2:

No ur not t he only one. But we are the minority here. Most like it.
I play all kinds of video games (Halo, Tomb Raider , KH , etc.). I guess I just didnt like seeing the Disney characters I love portrayed that way. But everyone else thought it was cool. To each his own I guess.

I mean poor Goofys leg! lol Seriously I dont know why it bothered me so much but I guess the characters were such a real part of my childhood it came across disturbing to me.

Kingdom Hearts didnt bother me at all. I loved it but then again Mickey had all his body parts . :thumbsup2

Completely OT... Cinderella... Your sig:
:rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2:Sounds like us! If you see another fueding family with all 4 of us in the brightest colored Crocs, look for the LGMH and say hello!

Lol I will ! We go a few times a year. We are going again this winter. If you are there you wont miss us! (That reminds me my husband needs new crocs.) Dont know if my mom will be on this next trip but if she is it will no doubt be drama city again! ( Mom and hubby not the best of friends. Put them in close quarters and oh the joy!) Make sure and say hi! ( u wont need the LGMH to spot us.. :lmao: )

We won't even go there. Let's just suffice it to say I spot my mother in law at Disney over and over again. I see her in the safari (wilderbeast section), and the shrunken head that chief Nami has resembles her quite a bit, and I'm reminded of her in Snow White's Scary Adventure, and then again at the end of the Great Movie ride when my mother in law pops out with a broomstick in a giant cloud of red smoke....:rotfl2::lmao::happytv:
Oh, I can't imagine going to Disney with my mother in law. I'd simply not go. I couldn't take that woman for a week.:scared1::scared1::scared1: An hour once every other week is more than enough.:rotfl:

:rotfl:

I must say... I find it disturbing, and yet very compelling. If this makes it to store shelves I will buy it, and I'm not even much of a gamer.

My suspicion is that those aren't intended to actually be Mickey and Goofy. Disney has always been really protective of the images of their major characters; even in Kingdom Hearts they had strict rules about how the characters were expected to act/look. I'm guessing those are some sort of automotons that look like the characters. Maybe the "real" Mickey and Goofy will be fighting against those things. Or maybe the main character will be expected to get rid of those imposters. I can imagine a scene where the real characters have been kidnapped and these things have been left in their place, and you have to defeat these things and then go rescue Mickey and Goofy.

Of course I could be wrong and you could be right - those could actually be intended to be the real characters. But automotons and "retro-futuristic" gadgets are popular in the steampunk style, so that's what I'm going with for now. I'm looking forward to finding out for sure when the game comes out!

You know.. that makes perfect sense! Because I agree that Disney always has been up careful how they will let the characters be portrayed. They had strict rules for Kingdom Hearts Mickey. That would maybe explain the images we saw. Because aside of that I would have to say I would be shocked that Disney that was so strict with the characters in the past would allow it otherwise.

Good call. I will be very curious to see how they handle it.

By the way the artwork reminds me of another famous artists work. Cant recall the name but he does a lot of strange half human half machine type of creatures. Anyone know who I mean?

This game is the latest in a very long running series from the creators of the Final Fantasy video games and a unique collaboration with Disney. They were viewed as bizarre when they first came out years ago, but they have proven to hold their own with high production values and great story-telling. Everything you would expect from Disney. Mickey is a powerful and noble hero in the games, btw. They are very lucrative and some of the best Disney video games out there. Disney video games are generally not very good, but these usually are. Not always of course, but usually. It will be marketed to teenagers, btw.

That you find this disturbing, I don't know whether to laugh or cry......:confused3

This has nothing to do with SquareEnix, but in fact the creator of a widely lauded game called deus ex.

And I posted this awhile ago but no one took the bait it seemed.

Some gameplay and story info has been released.

Mickey is the main character in the game. The other lesser known Disney characters are jealous of Mickey and want revenge. However, it is weird in the case of the robo-Goofy. It is possible there are imposters also posing as the characters through the game. I am sensing that Oswald may be the main villain as he is the most obscure and Mickey stole his thunder. Concept art did make mention of Oswald in the form of a spaceship with OSW-15 and a picture of the rabbit.

Gameplay is reminiscent of Okami where you have a paint brush and will paint through the environments, and even alter the landscape. Hence, the Wii platform and not the other 2.

Oh, it's for the Wii? This could be fun! I love the artwork. It's incredible. But I love all things steampunk anyway.

I'll reserve judegment for now. But my first reaction....

I think this looks fascinating! I do hope it actually comes out!! What though, is steampunk??

It's a style that had it's origin in some novels, I think. I'm sure someone else could explain it better than me. But basically it takes place in times when the steam engine was widely used (like Victorian times) and has futuristic elements. . . sci-fi touches or technology in a time period where it doesn't belong. So it's kind of a retro-futuristic style, if that makes sense. Tomorrowland sort of has that feel to it, to me at least. And so did the Timekeeper, when it was still in Tomorrowland.

Oooh! That's really interesting!! I've never even heard of it, lol, but I'm hooked!

O.K. folks, it looks like this is going to happen.

scroll down to image gallery and there is a pic of next month's GameInformer Magazine. If you notice under the right ear, there is a Disney Trademark next to it, as if there is any question it is Mickey on the cover. This also meshes with the rumored painting mechanics.
