Is this a good deal from Hilton

So I got a call from a sales rep for Hilton- I got the offer below IF we agree to sit through a 2 hour sales promotion:

4 days, 3 nights at any Hilton in Orlando including the Hilton across from Downtown Disney that offers extended hours.

A $200 rebate to be used for any future Hilton stays

10,000 Hilton points with a worth of around $100.

With tax I still have to pay $201.38 or $350 if I want to upgrade to a suite.

What do you guys think? Is it a good deal or still not worth it to have to sit through a 2 hour timeshare sale?

It was a good deal for us...we found the Hilton pitch much easier to stomach than some others. It was pretty low key and the times worked well for our trip. We actually ended up buying in - but had been investigating timeshares for a little while and had been very unhappy with the pushy sales people with some of the others. They also offer discounted tickets at the concierge desk, but honestly, you could do better to get them from Undercover Tourist. Feel free to PM me if you have any specific questions.

We got the same call from Hilton Grand Vacations last summer and after much deliberation decided to go for it (our trip is upcoming in July). We'll be staying at the Park Soleil which looks like a beautiful resort. Reviews I've read online on that resort are very positive.

Our promo package sounds very similar to yours with a couple of slight differences. We'll get 15,000 Hilton points and a $150 voucher to use on theme park tickets of our choice (we'll apply them to Universal). I decided to upgrade to a 2 bedroom villa (we are a family of 6) for a total out-of-pocket price of $550. The price per night works out to $183/night which is less than the $190/night we're spending at Wyndham Bonnet Creek for the week following our 4-night stay at the Park Soleil. The $150 voucher will help pay for Universal and the $200 hotel rebate (which you were also offered) will cover our hotel room for our drive home.

The bottom line is we're getting luxury accommodations at a competitive rate (slightly less than we could get ourselves for something comparable). I consider the extra $350 (in the form of theme park and hotel vouchers offered by this package) "compensation" for sitting through the timeshare presentation. If you don't mind the inconvenience of missing a couple of hours at the theme parks, making $175/hr isn't a bad trade-off.

We got a similar call a few months back -- looks like the same deal though ours was for a little less total cost (about $170 if not upgrading to an HGVC property). We decided it was worth taking the risk and are staying at the Downtown Disney Hilton in a few weeks. I've read reviews online that suggest the 2-hour sales pitch won't be as ugly/high-pressure as others might be, and I certainly hope that's true -- but I'm pretty comfortable saying no regardless. I'll try to report in on this thread once we go through the experience. At least at this point, the deal is looking great on paper!

Hilton has a reputation for quality resorts and relatively low pressure sales.

Having said that, any prospective timeshare buyer should thoroughly research the resale market before signing on the dotted line. In many cases, you can buy very good timeshares for literally pennies on the resale market, rather than tens of thousands of dollars. In some cases, you can buy very good timeshare contracts for $1 on eBay.

Obviously, any decent timeshare salesman will have a counter-argument to resale, usually involving some perks direct purchasers get which resale purchasers do not. Those perks are usually greatly overstated and almost never worth the huge premium you pay.

Despite the positive reputations of some timeshare systems like Hilton and DVC, any prospective buyer should thoroughly investigate the basic mechanics of using the system (where are the resorts, how do you reserve stays, which exchange service does the system use, what can you do with points or weeks you can't use, etc, etc, etc.) and also the claims made about perks for direct purchasers. Timeshare salesmen are very skillful, and even if they don't use high pressure, they are very good about exaggerating the benefits of their product and minimizing any and all objections or alternatives.

The best place to investigate ALL timeshares is the Timeshare Users Group (www.tug2.net). There are specific forums on TUG for each of the major timeshare systems, and a wealth of information from very knowledgeable and helpful TUG members who are NOT trying to sell you a timeshare.

We are doing this same deal at the Hilton DTD in a few weeks too! I'm nervous because it's our first time off-site (and we don't rent a car) so we're relying on the buses and taxis but since we weren't planning a WDW trip this year and then this offer came along for so cheap, it was this or no Disney trip so we'll find a way to make it work and be awesome! We added a night for something like $119 so we're staying M-F and our tour is on a Tuesday morning. I was surprised they don't provide transportation from the Hilton DTD to the Hilton Park Soleil and have to taxi over there. Not a huge deal but surprising so plan accordingly for transportation time/costs if you're staying at DTD! I will be happy to post back about our experience, too.

I'm another one who booked via this offer and we are headed down in June. Originally, I chose the DTD Hilton but recently decided to upgrade to Parc Soleil in a 2bedroom/2bath suite. I've heard that they are 1200-1300 square feet. We have structured the week so we start with 4 nights at the DTD Doubletree suites which we paid for using my Hilton points - those 5 days will be our park days. Then we'll move to Parc and probably just chill at the resort on those days. Over the years we have learned that we need rest at the end of our Disney vacations or we come home too exhausted. All in all, spending only $505 for 7 nights at these properties is a nice deal. Last year we enjoyed 8 nights at the Waldorf and had a good deal on that too, but the resort fee and parking fee diminished our savings. The Waldorf is lovely, however..

Congrats to everyone who secured the Hilton deal. I'm a loyal Hilton traveler who clocks about 80 nights a year on business. Never disappointed.

We are back and while the DTD Hilton was not my fave, the Parc Soleil time share presentation was fine and we were , as promised, out the door under 2 hours. It was super low pressure and about 1/2 way through the sales person basically told us it wasn't in our best interest since our kids are so small and we don't vacation, so that sped things up! Was well worth the time for the room deal since we otherwise would not have done Disney this year but it was also a wake up call that we will never do offsite again! Even the slowest disney bus beats all offsite transportation when you don't rent a car. We waited almost an hour for mears to send cabs 3 different days!

No. Not worth it. 10,000 Hilton points is worth $100 if you want to purchase the points. When you use the points it comes to about $30-$40. I've seen the Hilton at DTD pretty low around $100 and I have HBC booked for $116 in August and with taxes and fees comes to $155. $155 = 40,000 points

The offer I got was $150 total for 3 nights in a Disney area hilton. That's $50 night. I also got $200 back to spend on a future hilton stay. How can that not be worth it?

My mom booked this Hilton deal for a trip in October. Just to clarify, there is no Disney transportation that comes to the DTD hotel? Is it close enough to the DTD buses that she can use that as her transportation to the parks?

We'll be staying at the Park Soleil which looks like a beautiful resort. Reviews I've read online on that resort are very positive.

The resort is indeed very nice! My wife and I spent a week there as guests of another couple who own points at Park Soleil. We didn't need to attend the presentation as we were merely guests of current owners so I can't say how pressured one might feel at the "presentation".

I won't put up with time share sales presentations, but I wouldn't hesitate to pay rack rate to stay there again if the need arose.
