Our family of 5 will be flying from Kansas City to Orlando on Dec. 27 and returning on Jan. 5. I can get tickets for $197 each, but that's with 2 stops on the way down. Is this about as good as it will get or should I hold out for something better? I read on these boards that late July-mid August is a good time to shop for December airfare. Any MCI-MCO December flyers want to share their thoughts or experiences? TIA

Have you thought about holding out for Southwest. I can't say the tickets will be cheaper, but they do have non stop flights. I would really try to avoid a two stop flight. THat is a lot of chances for delays especially in the winter!

CarolA,
Yup, having 2 stops (in winter, at holiday time) is exactly what is making us hesitate with these tickets, especially since we would only have 30 minutes between flights in Tallahassee. That's a bit on the squeaky side, especially with a family in tow.

Holding out for cheap airfare can be such a nerve-wracking gamble. One year I waited too long and got stuck paying $400 a ticket. :( ouch BUT, the following August I got NWA December tickets (MCI to TPA) for $95! I think I'll keep checking and wait to see what Southwest comes out with. I've never flown with them before, have you? I'm just wondering if they're reliable, on-time, all that good stuff.

Anyone else have an opinion on what a good price would be for Dec. 27 MCI to MCO plane tickets? I'd like to get tickets for less than $200, but am I being realistic for that time of year?

I fly Southwest a lot. They are very reliable and unless weather interferes they have one of the best on time records I have ever seen.

As to the airfares who knows. You might want to go to www.southwest.com and sign up for their fare special notification.

I think I would currently make my decision based on the following

1 or less stops
around $225

I would continue looking but if I got near the 2 factors listed above ....without worry that the price will go down...Might you pay less...yes there is always that chance...will you pay more..there is an even greater chance in today's market...
