Our school also did the limo to McDonalds for fundraising. That didn't sit right with me. The first time I rode in a limo, it was for my uncle's funeral at Arlington. I think you lose something by appropriating these gestures for lesser occasions. I told my kids, when you do something great, like winning a Nobel prize, then you'll ride in a limo.

We did not get our oldest daughter a limo for her 6th grade graduation, the only thing we were able to afford was a trip to WDW.

And we did it again when she graduated from High School...

And we are doing it again this year...after our yougest graduates
from High School.....

Okay, I am putting on my flame retardent suit.

One of Pete's friends invited him to a birthday party at the local skating rink. His dad hired a stretch Hummer limo to pick all the boys up. It was a hoot!!! The boys were in heaven. Think about it? A bunch of 7 year old boys with big shy grins on their faces. They were in awe and didn't want to go to the skating rink, they wanted to stay in the limo!

I thought it was a neat experience for them, but I have to agree, that having a limo pick you up at school is awfully presumptuous.

We had a limo take DD and her best friend to a movie out of town when they finished up fourth grade, because their teacher had promised them a limo ride if they met a reading goal. They both met the goal but no limo- nothing at all in fact. They were so disappointed my DH felt sorry for them. I would have never had them picked up at school though. No one saw them but us and my DH's parents. They had a great time.

When i was in 6th grade, there was a girl in my class that arranged to have a limo pick up her and her friends for her bday party just to take them to the mall...

See, I could see something like this for a party, especially with a large group of kids. But just for one kid to get picked up from something like a grade school graduation in a limo, is too much, IMO.

WOW, i think that is way over the top!! I guess if they want to spend their hard earned money on that kind of stuff then more power to them!! That is why their kids are going to come to expect that kind of stuff all of the time though!

Yup - it's too much.

Around here, they had to include "no limos" in the rules for the Eigth grade dance and then graduation. So obviously, at some point, parents were doing just that!

Well I don't agree with that.....my 4 year old has already been in 4 limos and she hasn't done anything great yet LOL...everytime we go on vacation we have a limo take us and bring us home from the airport. You can't fit more than 3 in a town car so if we have 4 people we have to hire a limo. We also take one into the city every Christmas to see the Radio City Christmas Show and the tree....it makes my life easier not having to drive or take a train and subway. I don't agree with them for grade school graduations or 4 year old birthday parties but they are great for what we need them for!

around here -- 5th grade graduation means a backyard party. 8th grade graduation there's a dinner dance, but it's right after the graduation ceremony, which means the kids are expected to wear semi formal attire not evening clothes, and they ride the bus from the school to the place where the dance will be held --- they're having the dance at a catering facility.
