Is there WiFi in the resort rooms?

At the Beach Club.
Not near the villas, just in the regular lobby.

It hasn't been my experience that the DVC resorts have free wireless in the lobby. Which one did you find this in?

This may vary depending upon whether a convention has attendees or presentations that require a wireless connection.

There is definitely free wireless access in the BC lobby. I remember Teena confirming it on the YC/BC resort thread.

Renters would also get the "free" internet, correct? B/C Disney really doesn't know who's renting vs. owning, right?

The answer is maybe. While most renters do get free internet, it is a perk for members. Sometimes something is coded differently, and the system will charge you. If you are charged, you can not go to the desk to have it removed unless you have a DVC Membership Card.

Technically, DVC makes distinctions between owners, unpaid guests of owners, and renters. According to our offering statements, we are supposed to inform DVC if we are making a reservation for a renter.

Is there anyway to find out the first day if we would be charged? I don't want to assume we get free internet, and then when we check out, get charged for 6 days.:scared1: If we have to pay, we'll just limit our internet usage. But how can we find out without being surprised at checkout? Also, any idea how much the daily charge would be?

OK.

The only way to tell for sure would be to use the internet the first day, then go to the front desk and ask for a print out of room charges. If you are being charged, it would be on that bill.

The regular rate is about $10 per 24 hour period. Maybe $9.95 or $9.99, something like that. Meaning you could first log on at night, then use it again most of the next day.

Now, whether the owner you rented from informed DVC the reservaton was a rental, and whether Member Services actually keyed it as such, won't be known until you check-in.

Also, if you room keys say ***DVC MEMBER*** under your name, you probably will not be charged.

You might want to look at purchasing a cheap wireless router if you are going more than once per year. We did for our last trip and it was great - we could both use our internet (laptop for me, IPad for DH) at the same time which for us was BIG. Also we could use our devices anywhere, in bed, on the patio, in the bathroom (gasp).
We are both very computer dependent/addicted and the router was really a good purchase for us - you can get one for under $50.

And, by the way, with the entire world going wireless these days, doesn't anyone else think that Disney should consider providing WiFi, at least for us who pay DVC dues every year?

Yes, WiFi would be nice.:surfweb:

BTW - Teena just posted in another thread today or last night that the free wi-fi in the BC lobby is gone now. She said it was a test, a long one, but it is now gone.
