Is there transportation between resorts?

Hi all -
I'm new at this so hopefully this works...
My DW has her heart set on staying at WL with our 2 DDs. Auntie wants to come along too but she can't afford a room by herself at WL and a deluxe room seems like a waste of $$. So she's thinking of getting her own room and staying at ASMusic and then meeting up with us everyday.

Is there transportation between resorts?
If so what is the schedule?
Particularly when does it end at night?
Also can auntie swim with her neices at WL?
Any other suggestions for such an arrangement?
Does anyone recommend staying at AKL since it's closer to ASM?

Thanks for any help,
:banana: :earsgirl: princess: princess: ::MinnieMo

There is not bus transportation between resorts, you'd have to take a taxi or take Disney transportation to a major park and then take a resort bus from there.

I **think** Disney busses stop running 2 hours after park close.

Staying at AKL will not really help if you're using Disney transportation, as you would still need to go to a park to get to the other resort.

The only other thing I can think of is to rent a car? :confused3

The only transportation from resort to resort is by taxi. The only other way to to take disney transportation from the resort to one of the parks then catch the bus to the other resort. This can take up to an hour to do due to the wait time on the busses. As far as AKL it may be closer but I don't think it would save that much time on the transportation end.

She could swim at the WL most of the time unless they decide to check that everyone in the pool is a resort guest. I have not seen them check this at WL.

There is not direct transportation between resorts. You would need to go to one of the parks or DTD and transfer to another bus. As far as swimming at one resort when staying at another, you might run the risk of her being asked to leave. Pools are for those staying at the specific resort.

Unfortunately this isn't what I had hoped to hear. :-(
Are they walking distance - I've never stayed in Disney

No they're not, there aren't any sidewalks, and it's a 40 mph highway that leads to AKL :guilty:

Will anyone have a car? Either go get her, or have her drive over for visit. Otherwise, the best bet from ASM to WL would be take bus to MK and then take boat or bus to WL. Late night return to ASM would be through DTD. Those buses run 'til something like 3 in the morning. And since you are staying at WL, she certainly would not be asked to leave from the pool. Or would she DISers? "Pool Hopping" is a hot topic here on the DIS.

Thanks everyone! DISboards is great! I'm so happy I found this place.
Quick responses and so informative!

I guess if we're closing out the parks we'll probably just head back to our respective resorts anyway and for the 1 or 2 nights that we don't close out the parks we probably could just call for a cab - its got to be cheaper than a car rental.

With all this snow I can't wait to get down there!
Thanks again!

I agree that the easiest will be to take the bus to MK and then the boat to WL. She can do the reverse at the end of the evening. The MK buses do run after closing. You can check the transportation board to see how long. When travelling with extended family, we find it easier if we have cell phones to decide where we are going to meet. We usually meet in the parks, then return to a hotel to swim and rest, and then go back out to the parks.

How about a cabin at Fort Wilderness? You'd still be near Wilderness Lodge (a boat ride away) if you wanted to visit there for the restaurants etc and still have the same transportation options to MK. The cabin would accommodate all 5 of you with a double bed and 2 bunks in the bedroom and a pull-out bed for your aunt in the sitting area. You'd have some privacy that way and save some money too. I don't know when you're going but, let's say, June (regular season) - the cabin costs 311 incl. tax per night. A std. room at WL is 266 incl. tax, costing you 45 dollars more, as opposed to 110 dollars more for the value resort. Also if she wants to babysit or if she's coerced into babysitting :rotfl: you can merrily skip away and know the kids are in their own room and auntie won't be trying to find her way home late. Something to consider.

If your heart isn't set on WL, can't you stay at Poly with 5 to a room? I just figured this out yesterday while doing some research. There are two beds with a daybed (i believe :scratchin ) More cramped I'm sure, but all together with no pool issues might be worth it? I've heard nothing but wonderful things about Poly :goodvibes . Good luck!

That would be such a beautiful thing if Disney would have a direct transportation from one resort to another. I guess that's one of the reason why we like renting a car. We like to resort hop to check out the grounds and to eat there. And I like driving ourselves to DD instead of using the Disney bus.

The easiest way for you is just take a cab. It would probably cost you about $15 one way plus tip. Last time we didn't rent a car ($500!! for 4 days) so we took the cab from WL to CSR. And if I remember correctly the cost was about $15 and $3 tip one way.

Great idea, if you don't mind all being in one room. For a better rate, try Contemporary North Wing, standard view. We just stayed in the CR North Wing and loved it. You can walk to MK, the rooms are HUGE and the Daybed is a nice size.

Is there transportation between resorts?

No. You have to use a theme park, the TTC, or DTD as a transfer point. Generally you need to plan on minimum one hour between resorts.

If so what is the schedule?

Moot.

Particularly when does it end at night?

If you use DTD as your transfer point, around 2:00am.

Also can auntie swim with her neices at WL?

Use of the pools is restricted to registered guests of that resort. Depending on the ages of your children, (if one is two or under) you can for an additional $25 per night register her as an additional guest in your room and get her a resort ID.

Any other suggestions for such an arrangement?

It seems that for the cost of the regular room at WL and room at AS's you could probably book a room that sleeps five at another resort. AKL has rooms that sleep five and would not cost more than the two rooms you have booked now. I've stayed at WL and AKL, have a STRONG preference for AKL.

What about Port Orlean Riverside? One of the kids(possibly depending on age) could use the trundle bed and maybe Auntie could sleep with the other. This would be alot cheaper than the other options if it were important that you all stay together. Just a thought! :wave2:

Okay, I'll be the meanie...

Tell Auntie your plans, and the rest is up to her to figure out, including the transportation needed to meet up with you (at YOUR choice of time and place). You have already said that your DW has chosen WL and is looking forward to staying there. Do not change your resorts based on what Auntie says she can afford. At best, if you plan to use Auntie as a babysitter, you could offer to subsidize the cost of her room at WL. Just make sure the babysitting agreement is clear.

Just my 2 cents. I'm sure I won't be popular for it....

What about the Jr. Suites at WL...I think that is what they are called. They should sleep 5. Or what about doing WLV...renting points from either a DVC member and getting a one bedroom or just getting a one bedroom thru Disney Reservations? There are certainly options available and for the cost of one room at WL and one at ASM you could probably swing it.

One BR's only hold four plus a child under three. You'd need a 2BR.

I believe you can now book 5 people into a 1 bedroom at DVC properties, but no extra towels or bedding are provided.
