Is there such a thing as an Iphone with only talk/text and no data plan?

My dd's and I have been with Ting for about a year now and LOVE it. I had to buy our IPhones outright (got them through a reputable Ebay seller for $100 each - chose the 4S). You can block data for any of the phones to prevent that charge (or what I do is limit dd's to 1GB per month). Our monthly fee for all 3 of our phones combined has never been above $46. And that's with younger dd doing a lot of texting, :)

Another optiin Tmobile $30 100 min unl text 5gb data at high speed.

Thanks for posting that. You really have to search their site to find the information though. This might work for my son who may be in the market for a new phone soon and never talks to anyone on the phone but uses a lot of data.

My 15 yr old basically covers her phone charges with Ting for around $17.00 a month. We purchased her a 5c off of eBay for her birthday and she has maintained the bill which motivates her to only use wifi and keep her data low. We are very pleased with Ting for our teen daughter.

No experience with an iPhone and no Data Plan but I use a Moto X smartphone on Republic Wireless for $10 a month unlimited Talk and Text.

As long as you don't mind buying an Iphone, we use Virgin Mobile. We have 300 talk minutes ( I used 5 minutes last month), but unlimited text and data for $30 a month. After a year of use, they just changed my plan (no commitment) and gave me unlimited talk as well.

There are also quite a few reputable ebay sellers that sell refurbished phones. I recently purchased a 5c from a seller with 450 reviews, all positive for $200. He talked through all of my concerns. 2 week return policy. A bit riskier than a new phone, but half the cost. I transferred my tracfone minutes to it and am very happy.

That being said, my son has an ipod touch and a tracfone which mainly fulfill his needs. However, he doesn't use the TF at all because he is embarrassed to take it out at school. He is the "only" (sad but true) 13 year old around here without an iphone.

Your son can hang out with mine -- he and his friend are the only two 13 year olds around here without smartphones too! :) This thread has had lots of good info -- thanks everyone!

What about getting her a newer IPod and a regular (non smartphone) cell phone?
Apple's website has clearance and refurbished stuff. You can probably get her a iPod for much less than buying an iPhone with a plan.
