Is there still a refferral bonus.

I know back when I first joined, DVC gave some sort of reward for refferring people that end up joining. Is this still the case and if so how does it work?

This is still the case. If you refer another party to DVC and they purchase, it is a $200 referral bonus to your DVC account, or I have heard here that you can take Disney Dollars.

HOWEVER, this referal is VERY hit and miss depending on your state of residence. The disney referral is more restrictive then most I have noticed, so check with your guide.

That being said, I am going to ask if I can receive my referral when I visit as I will be in Florida or California when I receive the referral bonus, not my home state.

When we joined in July, it was explained like this:

BOTH referring person and the referred person have to live in states which ALLOW payment for referrals. Most states have laws concerning payment for referrals- and your qualification for the referral bonus is based upon your DVC membership address, not your present physical location - if your state doesn't allow it, then NO referral bonus.

I just had friends take a "phone tour". I received an email with an online gift card for $25. to Disney Direct.com. My friends did not buy so I did not expect anything.

In addition to the state issue, I believe the referral bonus only works if they buy directly from Disney. I don't think there's a bonus if they buy resale.

The bonus varies from year to year--cash, Disney bucks, merchandise or whatever. It's usually worth a couple of hundred dollars and kicks in only for purchases directly through DVC itself. There are two ways to trigger it. Either notify your guide BEFORE your friends place their first call and ask for that guide, or tell your friends to mention your referral during their FIRST conversation with any guide--at which point they'll be transferred to your guide. If the first conversation passes without any mention of the referral, the bonus disappears.
